Sony PlayStation 3 price too low: $3bn loses in 2 years
June 25, 2008 by Peter
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

Sony has just released their fiscal 2008 annual report, and in the report it shows that the Japanese electronics giant has lost over $3 billion in the past two years. The reason for this is because the PlayStation 3 price was set too low, it actually cost more to produce than they were selling the console for. Looking closely at the annual report it showed that Sony lost $2.16 billion in 2007 and $1.16 billion in 2008 on the PS3.
According to information in Sony’s fiscal 2008 annual report, the company has lost over $3 billion in the past two years by pricing the PS3 below its production cost. Rumors suggest that the PS3 actually costs about $800 (£400) to manufacture, but Sony were selling the next-gen console for around $500-600 (£250-300) in 2006. Sony has told investors that they might not be able to fully recover their large-scale investment on the PS3 if they do not achieve more favourable sales figures.
Sony has mentioned in the past that they should be able to improve the profitability of the PS3, as a result of hardware cost reductions. The PS3 has now seen the greatest year-to-year improvement in both hardware and software sales. Sony has stated that once they do make a profit from their PS3 they will not reduce the price.
They said that they have to keep the price the same as they would like to invest the money in other areas. These other areas that Sony wish to improve on is PSN, as well as bringing us greater serves like HOME.
No price cuts for Nintendo Wii or DS this year
April 28, 2008 by Peter
Filed under Gaming, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii

For those of us who were hoping for a price cut with Nintendo’s Wii or DS, then you will not be happy to learn that Reuters had an interview with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and said that it is unlikely that there will be any price reductions. So it looks like there will be no price cut any time soon, maybe not at all this year. In the interview Iwata said “”Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don’t think we are going to need them”.
The thing is when you sit back and think about it, why would Nintendo want to reduce the price when the company are selling more consoles than the Sony PS3 and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft. However; Nintendo Wii sales are only going to get better as the launch of Mario Kart and Wii Fit has proved very popular, and with the launch of even more titles rivals Microsoft and Sony must have a lot to worry about and this has been evident with both consoles being reduced in price a number of times.
Nintendo have always done well in Japan as well as over in America however; Europe has never embraced their consoles, but this has changed with the launch of the ever popular Wii and the cool portable DS. It seems that no matter whom you talk to they own either a Nintendo or a Nintendo DS, the Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 might have better graphics, but when it comes to the fun factor nothing comes close.

Wii Fit will help Nintendo crush Sony PS3 and Xbox 360

No one can deny that when it comes to the best games consoles for their graphics and pure power, the Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3 are at the top of their game. Ok we do not want to get started as to which is the better of the two, although I know which one I would choose, but I will not say although I do love watching Blu-ray on mine.
There are some huge games coming out for these consoles that will only help drive up sales like Grand Theft Auto IV, and that game itself will sell by the bucket load. However there is one console that outsells the lot of them, and that is the Nintendo Wii. However, they still hold another trick up their sleeve, and that is with the release of the new game for the Nintendo Wii called Wii Fit.
So far the game has only been released in Japan and over 2 million copies have been sold already, but with the Europe release soon and the release in the U.S. next month sales of the Wii Fit will go mental. When we first saw the launch of the Nintendo Wii many of us presumed that it was just another stupid system from Nintendo that was not going to do well at all, well the graphics looks stupid compared to that of the Microsoft Xbox 360 or the Sony PlayStation 3.
However, the Nintendo Wii is not all about how great the graphics are the company went back to basics about gaming and that is to make if fun for all. Nobody can deny how fun the Nintendo Wii is and great when there is a whole bunch of you playing.
The Nintendo Wii has proved everyone wrong and the sales figures show this, and with the Wii Fit about to reach the rest of the world, it seems that Nintendo will crush both the Xbox 360 and the Sony PS3.

Sales of Microsoft Xbox 360 have doubled in Europe
April 17, 2008 by Peter

Not so long ago it looked as if the Xbox 360 hand lost its crown as the best games console on the market as the Sony PS3 started to close the gap. Sales of the Xbox 360 were affected; ok not only from the onslaught from Sony’s PlayStation 3 but also as a shot in the foot from Microsoft themselves with the RROD issue.
Well thanks to some huge prices cuts of the Xbox 360 in Europe it seems as if the next-generation console sales have started to increase, well by double in fact. It seems that being able to purchase an entry level Xbox 360 for just £160 was an attractive offer for consumers.
It was thought that with the recent demise of the HD DVD, it would affect sales of the Xbox 360, but it looks as though people are just interested in the gaming side of things, and the Xbox certainly does that part well.
Not only has sales of Microsoft’s games console increased but it looks as though the Xbox 360 sells 7 times more games than that of the Sony PS3, however you have to remember that the Xbox 360 has been out a lot longer and also the console has many more games as well.

We knew that Wii Fit by Nintendo would be very popular, but I did not think that the pre-order sales would sell out in just one day. Well that is what has happened with Play.com; Wii Fit could very well become the fastest selling games on the Wii so far.
Nintendo Wii Fit will launch on the 25th April, however the game was launched over four months ago in Japan, and as a result sold over one million copies in just it first month. The game to date has now sold over five million copies, and that number will grow once released in other countries.

Devil May Cry 4 Game review for Sony PS3

Devil May Cry is now on its fourth installment with Devil May Cry 4, and is available for the Sony PS3. The game is fun and will keep you engrossed for hours at a time; it is as if time stood still while I played this game.
The game itself has been tried and tested before; you have to hit a variety of buttons so you can perform actions, such as flying through the air or swing your huge sword around. For a while I did mash my buttons in the hope of killing the enemy; however that will not get you through the game for long. So you need to learn what button does what, that way you will get a lot further.

Man it just seems as if time is standing still while we wait for the release of Grand Theft Auto 4, a day does not go past without someone talking about or given us a little extra information about the game.
However I will keep things simple for you, and just treat you to some GTA 4 images from the upcoming game. It would have been nice for the developers to offer a demo, much like Grand Turismo 5 Prologue have.
Do you think that Halo 3 is much easier after playing Call of Duty 4

When I first started to play Halo 3 it took some time to get used to, at times it was a little too hard for me to get used too. However since I have now been playing Call of Duty 4 it seems as if it has honed my skills, because I decided to blow the dust of my Halo 3 game and have another crack at it.
Well to my surprise the Halo 3 is now much easier, is it me or does the whole game feel like it is in slow motion. The reason for this is that in COD4 you don’t get time to think, it is action packed from the word go.

Nintendo Wii Hates Smokers: stops Super Smash Bros. Brawl working

If you were one of the lucky ones to get your hands on the new Nintendo Wii game Super Smash Bros. Brawl, however some were disappointed to find that the game would not work. Not only has this problem been happening in America, but also in Japan as well.
Nintendo have said that the problem is due to dirty lenses in the Wii, the game giant recommend that you have your Wii sent away to be properly cleaned. If you have a brand new Wii then you will have no problems playing the game. However if you are like my brother and are a heavy smoker then you could have problems as this is a main cause of a dirty lens.

Xbox 360: worst console ever created, eats discs and RROD

I know that this will upset thousands of gamers, but it does seem as if the Xbox 360 is the worst games console that was ever created. The thing is you need to have a look at some facts, Microsoft’s games console likes to eat discs. My brother was playing Forza 2, when his Xbox 360 decided that it was hungry and started to devourer the disc, what was left was a disc that was badly scratched.
And that is not all; many people are on their second Xbox as the first got that dreaded RROD. I had an Xbox and had it for just under a year, and then I got that Red Ring of Death. I was upset, however thankfully I had it repaired free of charge from Microsoft.
Since I purchased my Sony PS3; my Xbox 360 seems to be gathering dust. Maybe I might give it away to someone or use it as a doorstop, well it is bulky enough.

Microsoft claim Xbox 360 games better than Sony PS3 thanks to Gamerscore

Well it seems as if Microsoft have made a bold claim, they say that the Xbox has better games and is a much better console thanks to Gamerscore, which they say has helped it become a better games console than the Sony PS3.
Not so long ago Tracy Erickson from Gamepro made claims that the Sony PlayStation 3 was a better console for multi format releases. So it comes as no surprise that Microsoft would react to that.
Microsoft say that for multiplatform console owners, things like Achievements and Gamerscore are an influencing factor when people purchase an Xbox, which is why this system still sells well worldwide.
