Then go back to 2001 or just after and ask the same question, the answer would be the iPod. A few years later Apple turned things on its head once more with the iPod Touch, and since then nothing has been able to compete. Now there could be a new contender in town, as during MWC 2011 the Wi-Fi only Samsung Galaxy S PMP was announced.

This is not a smartphone, so does not come with 3G connectivity, but what it does offer is a choice of two screen sizes, 4-inch and 5-inch – something that the Touch does not. Could the iPod Touch finally have a worthy rival – not likely? The reason we say this is because the Samsung Galaxy S phone was not able to compete with the Apple iPhone, so what would make this new model worthy of the PMP crown?

The two versions will not only differ in screen size but also a few specs as well. Both will come with a 1GHz processor and a VGA front-facing camera, but the smaller model only has a 3.2-megapixel camera and a 1200mAh battery; the larger having a 5-megapixel camera and a 2500mAh battery.

BGR was unable to learn what the price of the two new devices will be or their release dates, but was able to find out their names. Samsung decided to come up with the horrible names of Galaxy S Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0. We cannot say for certain how well these two new devices will be received, but they are considered to be the best chance at taking the fight to the iPod Touch.

We were a little confused with the title that IntoMobile went with, saying that the new Samsung Galaxy S 5.0 was a iPod Touch killer. How can anyone presume such a thing, we have to be realistic about these things.

If you had the choice would you choose this new Samsung Galaxy PMP over the iPod Touch?

Samsung Launches Android TV Remote App for Galaxy Tab / S Devices http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/04/samsung-launches-android-tv-remote-app-for-galaxy-tab-s-devices/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/02/04/samsung-launches-android-tv-remote-app-for-galaxy-tab-s-devices/#comments Fri, 04 Feb 2011 18:50:17 +0000 Tina Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=120872 If you own a 2010 model Samsung television and a Galaxy S smartphone or the Samsung Galaxy Tab, then we have a bit of information that could well be of interest to you. Samsung has just launched its TV Remote Control app for Android, which is compatible with Galaxy S handsets and the Galaxy Tab.

As Eric M. Zeman over on the phonescoop.com website recently reported, the application allows users to control their Samsung TVs. However, the app – which is free to download from the Android Market – does require a local Wi-Fi network to be able to control the television.

The TV Remote Control app is compatible with a number of 2010 models including the plasma C6500 series and above, the LCD C650 series and over and the LED C6500 series and higher. As Mike Luttrell at tgdaily.com points out, the app comes in handy when browsing Internet@TV content such as Facebook.

Accessing your favorite content will be made much easier with the Samsung TV Remote Control app, thanks to its dedicated Samsung Apps button and 4-way directional pad that’s ideal for scrolling through TV listings and menus. Would you find this app really useful?

Samsung Galaxy Tab: Rooted before Release http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/06/samsung-galaxy-tab-rooted-before-release/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/09/06/samsung-galaxy-tab-rooted-before-release/#comments Mon, 06 Sep 2010 04:08:00 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=107968 Who would of guessed that this would happen? The Samsung Galaxy Tab is yet to hit the market, but one source is already claiming that they have successfully rooted the Android 2.2 tablet computer.

As reported from BGR, sera-apps.de is the website which are claiming the feat, although I’m more interested in knowing how they have managed to obtain a Galaxy Tab so early, and spent enough time with it, to perform a root – care to share guys?

According to the website, the root was performed on a prototype device, and the method may not be available once Samsung release their retail version of the Tablet – which will probably end up being the case once Samsung hear of this.

There are more details over at Sera-apps here, although obviously there are no details on how he actually managed to root the device. Let us know your thoughts on this.

Samsung Epic 4G Accessories: Skins, cases etc http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/08/26/samsung-epic-4g-accessories-skins-cases-etc/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2010/08/26/samsung-epic-4g-accessories-skins-cases-etc/#comments Thu, 26 Aug 2010 11:55:45 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=107336 Sprint is to launch the Samsung Epic 4G on August 31st and is the only slider version of the Galaxy S range. The UK only has one version whereas the U.S. has four – the Epic considered to be the best of the bunch. Another model is the Captivate, which you can currently get for 1-cent, more details here. Those who plan to own one will be looking at what accessories are on offer – just so they are ready.

There are a number of accessories already available for Samsung’s Android handset, such as cases, chargers, holders and skins. The most popular I would assume would be the cases, what better way to protect your handset from the abuse that it would go through during one-day.

HubPages explains that cases for the Epic come in three categories, skins, gloves / holster and pouch. Skins are ok as they allow you and others to still see the beauty of the phone, but does not offer much in the way of protection.

Gloves are often made from plastic, rubber or metal and cover the phone with just holes cut out to allow you to access controls and the screen. Holsters and pouches are ideal when you do not need to use your phone, and is a great way to keep the handset out of harms way.

For more details on this visit HubPages. For a complete list of Samsung Epic 4G accessories visit Amazon.
