We have brought you various information in the past about how to save money on your car and which types of vehicle are specifically designed for fuel economy, but now we have some tips which come straight from the U.S Environmental Protection Agency.

They have come up with a series of steps for the average driver to follow, complete with useful diagrams to back up their recommendations, making it easier for the reader to digest.

Their first tip is to drive efficiently, and they have divided this into sub categories with information on driving sensibly, observing the speed limit, removing excess weight from your vehicle and using cruise control and overdrive gears.

Next up is keeping your car in good shape, and to do this you’ll need to ensure that your engine is properly tuned and that your tires are properly inflated. There is also some very useful tips on checking which type of oil you are using, and also evidence that changing your air filter can save money on fuel in the long run.

Two other important areas to consider in terms of fuel economy are commuting and travelling. Deciding when to travel to work and avoiding peak traffic times can often be the difference in saving a lot of money on fuel each month.

If you’re interested in reading more, head to the official government website here. Alternatively, if you have any ‘fuel-proof’ tips which have saved you money in the past, be sure to share them with us below.

The London Taxi is a symbol for all black cabs and a Fuel-Cell Hybrid prototype will be uncovered at London’s City Hall this Monday.

Use of the London taxi consistently throughout the day without having to fill up would be advantageous, with the hydrogen fuel-cell system hybridized with lithium polymer batteries, exceeding 250 miles on a full tank of hydrogen, and reaching top speed of over 80 miles per hour, a black cab in the future is something we can all be glad about.

Lotus Engineering, LTI Vehicles, TRW Conekt and Intelligent Energy have all participated in the introduction of this cab. LTI gave up models to modify the build of the chassis, TRW Conekt ran the safety analysis program with the steering and brakes, and Lotus with design control systems to enhance performance of both the fuel cells and electric drive systems, and also the full propulsion and fuel cell engine.

With no emissions just water vapor from the exhaust, and it only taking about 5 minutes to fill up, you can see it becoming a big hit. Being part of a structure to make all London taxi cabs eco friendly by 2020, starting on London highways by 2012. Can this be a step forward to cleaning up the air in busy cities like London?

Are you searching for a new car which will save you money each time you top up on expensive fuel? If that’s the case you’ll be pleased to know that we have a list of the most fuel-efficient cars of 2011, and there’s a lot to choose from.

It’s no surprise to see the 2011 Chevrolet Volt top of the list, as the vehicle has already won numerous awards from recognised auto websites who all state that the Chevrolet Volt is easily one of the most fuel-efficient 2011 cars you can buy right now. Of course the price tag may be an initial downside to the motor, but when you think that the Volt can operate for 35-40 miles on just battery power, it’s going to save you hundreds of dollars a year on your expensive fuel bills.

Then of course there is the 2011 Nissan Leaf, another electric car which should also be in your candidates list for selecting a fuel-efficient car in 2011. The Daily Green has placed this motor top of their list, while there’s also special praise for the Chevrolet Volt as well. Other motors which have been mentioned include the Toyota Prius and also the 2011 Lexus CT 200h which The Daily Green are calling ‘one of the most fuel-efficient cars of 2011‘.

If you need a second opinion, we’ve also digged out a related article from the Associated Press which lists a few other motors which you may want to consider. Alternatively, you may have a specific model which you think is a good choice for fuel-efficient driving in 2011. Leave us a comment below if you have a recommendation.
