Although we covered something similar on the tail end of November, this bring the comparisons to a new point of view. The original comparisons by the Lens of Truth only really took FPS and screen tearing into account when doing their video.

This one seems to have taken more time to put together. Both games have been placed side-by-side, each racing a Pagani Zonda R with almost identical camera views showing off the graphics engine of both games, and of course –the beauty of the Pagani.

Take a look at the video for yourself and decide which of the games graphically come out on top. In my opinion, GT5 just edges it. But which game do you think really shows off the Zonda R? The video is below.

To help you with your decision, G4TV has posted a very useful video comparison on the two games, letting you see what both titles look like on similar tracks, side by side.

If you are talking about which is the best racing ‘simulator’, then you would probably agree that GT5 gets one up on Forza, since the gameplay on Forza 3 is best described as more of a ‘arcade’ experience, whereas GT5 tends to focus in detail on certain elements.

If you don’t own both consoles though, you probably haven’t had the chance of playing both titles yet, so we’re saving this debate for the hardcore followers out there who enjoyed Forza 3, but are now spending their time on GT5.

The comparisons basically come down to two things. First being performance comparison between that of Gran Turismo 5 and Forza 3, and the second being relation to real life lap times gathered from fastestlaps.com.

The Lends of Truth have done a spectacular article. Numerous comparisons with graphics, performance, frame analysis and loading times suggest that both games are stunningly beautiful pieces of work, no doubt about that. But they seemed to be let down by the overall performance with GT5. Constant screen tearing and dropping below the 60 FPS mark hindered GT5, although it has marginally better graphics — whereas Forza 3 maintained it’s constant 60 FPS with no screen tearing. I guess for the real petrol heads, they want to know how realistic these two games stack up against real life racing. Although there is no fear factor and lack of caution when playing either game compared to real life, the results speak for themselves. Check the chart below to see the outcome.

The setup used the central LCD as the main display and the two wide LCDs as the left and right wing mirrors, you then sat in a Recaro (pretty sure it was Recaro) racing seat and the steering wheel was mounted in-front of you.

Personally I have never been a fan of console racing games which use a steering wheel, however this setup was great fun, the last time I used a steering wheel was on my PSX, so things have moved on quite a bit, the biggest shock for me was just how strong the force-feedback was.

The game itself was very similar to previous Forza versions (as you would expect), I only had the chance to test one track and one car, the handling for this particular car was awful! The things that really stood out for me was the previously mentioned force-feedback, and the extremely smooth and visually great graphics.

Not everything was great however, I was very disappointed that there was very little resistance on the pedals, also the pedals weren’t mounted to anything so quite often it was hard to use half-throttle, the other thing that was apparent was slow loading times, I did not time the wait times but it was definitely noticeable.
