When Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S III smartphone recently, one of their touted exclusive features was the Flipboard app which will come bundled on the new phone when it releases at the end of the month. However, thanks to the cunning work of one developer, the app has been yanked from the Galaxy S III and it’s available to download on other Android devices.

Considering that the Galaxy S III isn’t even out yet, it’s pretty amazing to think that an app thought to be exclusive to the handset can be taken just like that and opened up to all Android users. Flipboard is an app that has been available on iOS for a long time, but just like Instagram it has now found its way over to Android.

Rather than being a Galaxy S III exclusive, you can get this working on devices such as the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC One X, simply by extracting the apk file that has been provided over at the XDA Developer Forums. For those unfamiliar with how the app works, it essentially allows you to compile your favorite social media such as Facebook Twitter and other websites into one. You can then swipe with ease and select the things you want to read in more detail with a single click.

If you want to try out Flipboard on your current Android device, make sure you head to settings and select the install apps from non-market option otherwise it won’t work. Let us know how you get on and what device you have managed to get this running. It will be interesting to see if any other Galaxy S III features become available on other Android devices before release.

Flipboard for iPad: Hype Causes Issues

Yesterday, we stopped to take notice of the iPad application of the moment – Flipboard – and with the beautiful world it seems to have brought to the social media circle, also seems to have got too big for it’s boots too early.

I guess the creators over at Flipboard did not anticipate the amount of press they were about to get with their app, as it seems that a huge bunch of users filled complaints that they could not actively do specific tasks associated with the ‘e-magazine.’

Even though the app has been billed as ‘beautiful,’ it could not stop the influx of tech-support requests to complain about the “Flipboard is over capacity” issues.

Once users tried to start customizing their Flipboard to their needs, they started receiving errors, mainly server side that could not handle the amount of users logged in at any one time.

Two examples of this returned errors when attempting to create a new section, blaming your internet connection and the refusal to let you add your Facebook account details.

Flipboard did respond, and said that they would set up a waiting list system for connecting Facebook and Twitter accounts, but this would come in the form of an update to the application which first would have to be approved by Apple’s app store.

One positive note for non-iPad users – the application is set to come to other platforms such as the new iPhone and other tablet devices in the near future.

How are you finding Flipboard so far?

Since Flipboard’s announcement on July 20, there has been a lot of interest surroung the new iPad application which collects and aggregates news feeds and information from Facebook, Twitter and other social networking websites in a digital magazine-styled layout.

Flipboard’s CEO Mike McCue has stated that the application receives over 1 billion messages every single day, and is rapidly becoming the go-to application to discover and share content via the web.

Users (or readers) are presented with a constantly updated magazine-styled layout to make it easier for them to browse through the news that is specifically tailored to their needs, in a view that can easily be navigated and customized.

Flipboard seems to have opened up a new gateway for users who would never even bother reading Twitter feeds or tweets, or looking through the constant Facebook updates of close friends and family. Instead, they can choose what information is presented to them, that will be presented in a completely unique and easy to access way, much like that of a magazine.

One defining factor that this application also has is that it is FREE, and can be downloaded at the official Flipboard website, or through Apple’s App Store.

If you would like to see how Flipboard works, check out the video below this article and tell us exactly how you get on with the application. Is it a revolution? The rest of the social media world seems to think so.
