By now most of our readers should know there is a PS3 firmware update tomorrow, which is v4.30 and includes a focused set of new features and changes. This news had been made live within the last 24 hours on the official PlayStation blog, which explains how the PS3 4.30 update will also remove some features as well.

Changes for PS3 4.30 firmware – the system update will change how you’ll see Trophies on your Sony PlayStation 3 from now on, which the most obvious change will be the new home for Trophies and that’s under XMB’s PlayStation Network. One change that PS Vita users will love is the ability to see Vita trophies on the PS3, which will also include details of the current level and how close you are to the next Trophy level.

The PS3 4.30 update will also stop offering the Life with PlayStation app to people, which is thanks to this service closing from the start of next month. This is pretty much all we know about the 4.30 PS3 firmware update, although sometimes we do find out about a few hidden features after the software sees a release date.

Are you happy to see PS Vita Trophies supported on the PS3, and what features/fixes are missing from PS3 update 4.30 in your opinion? Early reactions seem positive for this firmware, although that has been mostly from Vita owners so far considering the lack of much else happening, but we are sure there will be a number of PS3 problems still need fixing that were not addressed with this update. One feature we want added is the ability to keep downloads going while watching Blu-ray movies, which has been a pain and even more so when you have a few free games to download from PlayStation Plus and use the PS3 as a Blu-ray player as well.

PS3 4.30 update release time – Sony explained that the new firmware would arrive on Oct 23, although they didn’t mention exactly what time the update would launch. What time will PS3 firmware 4.30 go live? We’ve seen updates vary in release times, which can some times see new software launch right after midnight although not all countries receive the update at the same time. Feel free to share when you’ve seen most PS3 firmware updates go live, and especially when the 4.30 update hits your system tomorrow and what part of the world you’re in.

With each new PS3 firmware update we get to hear about not only new features, but also those missing features every time. Two months ago to the day we spoke about 4 killer features needed via a PS3 firmware update, and not the PS4, which included cross game chat.

Then at the start of this week we touched on the next major PS3 software update, v4.0 and what our readers wanted to see in this update. Not only did the 60+ suggestions include some really cool ideas like a YouTube app, NTFS support for external USB drives, faster in-game menu, Chrome browser, and a lot more but also as expected cross game chat showed its face again. Not everyone cared about that feature and a few think it’s a little overrated, but there are a lot of gamers that still want this ability on the PS3.

What surprises us the most is the consistent wish for cross game chat, and while we can understand why the gamer wants it, most people must have missed Sony’s comments on the possibility of having cross game chat. Around 2 months ago we heard from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida who said cross-game voice chat would not happen thanks to the problems with memory restrictions. This does make us wonder what else is being restricted on the PS3?

We’ve loved hearing everyone’s feedback in regard to new features on the PS3 via a firmware update, but we wanted to clear it up once and for all. You will not be getting cross-game voice chat when PS3 firmware 4.0 is released.

Even if a homebrew developer creates cross game chat, Sony is surly right about memory issues and then this app would run into problems. If the memory problems is somehow fixed by a developer and a certain amount of memory reserved before entering a game, then that would really make Sony look like they did not care enough for this feature. The current stance from Sony is it is not possible, and with that in mind let us hear the last of thinking it’s coming to PS3 update 4.0.

Each time we see a minor update to Sony’s PlayStation 3 software we’re met with a bucket load of features that users want, also a few problems different users face with the system. The idea of firmware updates that don’t bring new features, and instead fix security and bug issues will only keep PS3 users happy for so long. So we wanted to look at the future and what PS3 Firmware 4.0 could bring, which will be the next major update.

There are a number of things that could improve the PS3 in my opinion; these include the biggest feature most of us want, which is “Cross Game Chat”. Also the store needs a little redesign and I’m sure a few of you have ideas for the XMB. While they redesign the PS Store, it would be good if Sony could add some PS2 games for users without backwards compatibility.

I’m sure Sony will be adding a lot of Vita features on the next major PS3 update, but many users still want simple things like a black default theme option, or even better a color wheel would be amazing. The web browser also needs some improvements, although some users would like the choice of another browser like Google Chrome.

One of the major issues we’ve seen is with the memory usage and speed of in game XMB, and this can be helped by removing pointless icons and make the whole interface cleaner, although I’m sure others will disagree thinking it is already simple enough. What’s your view?

Use the comments to let us know the most wanted features you have for PS3 update v4.0, and do you think cross game chat is even possible?

The recent article that we wrote concerning the official PS3 headset was seen as a Tease of Sony PS3 v3.70 firmware update. We did not notice before, but upon further investigation it seems that in order for the surround sound to work you will need to be running software version 3.70. Now forgive us if we are wrong, but does that not mean that an update is imminent?

As yet we do not know what new features the update will bring, but we can be sure that there will not only be that surround support, but also bug fixes and extra security measures. Other than that we are totally in the dark in other features along with an official release date.

One thing we do know, this will be a bigger firmware update then some of the most recent, as Sony has not stuck with the .01 updates and gone direct to the next big number. We might have to wait until September for PlayStation firmware update 3.70, as this is when the headset is due to be released; at least this gives Sony time to make this a more fulfilling update.

With E3 2011 just around the corner one would assume that Sony would mention this very subject, along with a number of new game titles that will compete with the Xbox 360. Oh, and just maybe the chance of a PS4 mention.

Could the next Sony PS3 firmware update be version 3.70, if so what are your expectations?

Those that decided to stick with the PlayStation 3 should be happy to know that the process has started to bring the PlayStation Network back up online. If you turn on your system you will see a new PS3 firmware update, v3.61.

All PS3 users must download this update to get online, and once the update is installed you will need to change your password before playing games again in multiplayer.

We would like to point out you can only change your online passwords once the PSN is back up in your region, which is currently being rolled out across the UK, United States, and the rest of the world.

The PS Blog points out that you can only change your password, once the PSN is back, on the system that your account was activated on, which is extra security to protect you. Those that have never downloaded content using their account will get an email with more instructions.

So, what you waiting for, go get the new PS3 firmware.

Been having problems with your Nook Color? Wish browsing was a little easier? Now it can be with the firmware update v1.1. This update, provided by Barnes & Noble, is meant to improve a number of different things, from fixing generic bugs to being able to pinch and zoom. The update should come automatically if you are connected to Wi-Fi, otherwise you can download it manually over on their website by clicking here.

Although you may be disappointed that the Nook Color update still will not offer any expansion on apps or anything in the way of a Nook app store, the download should go smoothly making your Nook Color interfacing more enjoyable. It is rumoured to have been said that Barnes & Noble will be updating the Nook OS to Android 2.2 later this year, however no date has been confirmed as of yet. Read cnet’s article for a full review on how the latest firmware update went.

Some Nook users have installed a custom firmware, which has allowed them to turn the Nook Color into something much more, this would include installing Android apps from the Android Marketplace. If you are one such user, then you should know installing the latest official firmware (v1.1) would overwrite your custom installation. Have you added a custom firmware?

An article over on Geek.com has taken a look at the future of Nook, and they ask if its last year’s model or a sinking ship? We’re sure some users may have a few words on this very topic, check out their article and let us know what you think the future holds for Nook.

If you have installed the latest firmware, let us know how you’re finding it and if the update has been problem free, or not?

I can remember my first PC, it was a Time Machine and although I thought it was great at the time – I now realize how slow it all was. When I used to start my computer up it used to take ages, and although things have moved on since then – start-up times are still governed by the BIOS. However, all that will change for PCs in 2011 as UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) will replace the old firmware.

I was shocked to learn that BIOS has been the standard boot system for 30 years now, so how come the hardware has evolved over those years but not the firmware? However, we do get some insight from Steven Mostyn from The Tech Herald, when he notes that BIOS was originally intended for just 250,000 machines.

So as we approach 2011 it is finally nice to know that we could all have a PC that will boot up much faster, as if you have a Mac with an SSD. OK, that is a bit stupid, but it will be nice to finally shutdown you PC each night instead of in standby – which some of us do to save on boot-up times.

The specifics are vague at the moment; we have no idea when UEFI will make it to the first PC and when it will finally become the standard?
