For football fans that have had enough of the noisy vuvuzela horns at the World Cup, can now get an iPhone app to silence the horns in a virtual way. Vuvuzaga 1.0 is a game that lets players roam through a virtual stadium silencing the long noisy horns.

Around a million vuvuzelas have been sold so far in the build up to the World Cup, and have come in for some criticism from certain quarters. Protests from several teams and some broadcasters raising complaints against the horns were rejected by FIFA.

Japan defender Tulio Marcus Tanaka complained that “You can’t hear what your team-mates are saying from two meters away”. The game is easy to use and suitable for all ages to enjoy. Players take control of some fun characters such as “Chav, WAG, and Fat Banker” as they roam around silencing the vuvuzelas.

Vuvuzaga 1.0 is on the App Store for only $0.99. Requires iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch with OS 3.1.3 or later.

With England kicking off their 2010 World cup campaign in a few hours, Sourcewire.com are reporting that fans can get a fun new app which turns their iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad in to a real football rattle.

Released by S Ventures Limited the England Football Rattle app is great for fans no matter where they might be watching, whether it’s in the pub with friends, at home or at the game itself. The app works like a normal football rattle just wave your device in the air to get a rattle sound.

The sound from the device will speed up or slow down depending on how hard and fast you wave it around in the air. The rattle is like those old wooden ones that were used all those years ago.

Philip Simpson director from the developers said “We’re very excited to be bringing such an interactive app to England football fans in time for the biggest competition in the football calendar. We have taken advantage of Apple’s advanced technology to create a truly convincing football rattle experience. If you close your eyes, you could believe you are waving a real football rattle”.

England Football Rattle is on the App Store for only $0.99/£0.59. Requires iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch with OS 3.1.3 or later.

These widgets can be customized and shared online via services such as Twitter, Facebook, Bebo, MySpace, iGoogle and WordPress etc.

I have embedded one of the widgets towards the end of this post, sadly our site’s design does not show off the widget to it’s full potential, however I have tested it with Facebook and it looks great.

There are six different widgets to choose from, one of the nicest widgets is the latest photos widget, this displays a huge slideshow of the latest World Cup photos .

If you want to see your team’s World Ranking check out the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking widget. If you check out the link below you can see all of FIFA’s available widgets.

With the South Africa World Cup 2010 now underway we have noticed that thousands of people are searching for free World Cup wallpapers, therefore we thought we would put an article together linking you to what we believe are some of the best World Cup 2010 wallpapers on the Internet.

The first site we will talk about is WorldCupWallpapers, this aptly named website has a huge range of wallpapers, these have been categorized into different countries via links on the right hands side. This site allows you to upload your own wallpaper, however there is a file size cap of 500kb, which seems low.

EA Sports have also released a free theme for Windows 7, they have called this the “EA SPORTS 2010 FIFA World Cup” theme, I installed the theme to see what it is like, it isn’t the greatest theme, however does feature impressive sceeenshots from their World Cup video game. You can download it here.

Minimalists you should head over to SmashingMagazine, their website features high-resolution minimal wallpapers, there are wallpapers for all of the different countries competing in the World Cup, which are all based on the same simplistic design (I am now using one of these wallpapers on my laptop).

There are plenty of other websites worth checking out, these include WorldCupProducts, FutbolWallpapers, OleOle and GeckoandFly.

If you have created your own wallpaper feel free to email me a link to your wallpaper and I will add a link in this article

Today millions of people have been traipsing the Internet for legitimate World Cup video streams for today’s opening match between South Africa and Mexico, this match is currently halfway through and is currently goalless,

A recent article posted on Sparxoo suggests that ESPN is the World Leader when it comes to providing the most up-to-date coverage analysis and interaction, this is thanks to ESPN Mobile, Facebook and live streaming.

Firstly we will talk about ESPN Mobile, this application is free and available for iPhone, there is also a premium service which can be purchased for $7.99. The free service allows you to view live scores, statistics, analysis, tablets and news for all teams.

If you decided to pay the extra $7.99 you will get live ESPN radio streams for all 64 matches, customizable alerts, live analysis, detailed statistics and even real-time(ish) video. Is there a better World Cup app out there for any smartphone platform?

In terms of social networking ESPN seem to be setting the standard as well, their “World Cup on ESPN” fan page provides links to all of ESPN’s latest World Cup newsESPN Soccernet, and a way of seeing which matches you and your friends are watching (here).

Finally we will talk about ESPN3′s live streaming, this service will stream 54 out of the 64 matched for completely free, ESPN believe that World Cup traffic this time round will be perhaps triple that of 2006. For more details check out the source link below.

If you are a Canadian keen to keep-in-touch with all of the World Cup action let’s hope your a Rogers customer, this is because their Demand Mobile service will be streaming live video from the South Africa 2010 World Cup, including today’s match South Africa vs. Mexico.

All 64 World Cup matches will be streamed live to smartphones running iPhone OS, BlackBerry OS and Google Android, however this does come at an extra cost.

Firstly you must sign-up to Rogers on Demand Mobile, this will cost an extra $5 per month (you can cancel the subscription as soon as the World Cup is over), once you are a Demand Mobile subscriber you must then pay a one-time fee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this costs just $10.

At that price I wish a UK carrier offered a similar service, $15 for up to 64 matches of football means that you are paying roughly 23 cents per game, what a bargain!

Have you used Rogers’ Demand Mobile to watch South Africa vs. Mexico? If so, how would you rate the service (out of 10)?

The World Cup is finally here, and with the first game of the competition almost underway with South Africa playing against Mexico, we have decided to list 10 of the best World Cup applications that make your life so much simpler when you just have to know there score, news, injuries, goals, bookings and sendings off, wherever you are.

Each smartphone seems to have their own special application dedicated to the World Cup, and we will start with South Africa Live, an iPhone application which makes use of Opta stats. You can choose to receive push notifications, check out all the news, and even go to the chat forum, photo gallery and watch streaming video. The iPhone also has another application up it’s…er, sleeve. Maybe sock would be better? Manage Your Football Club is more on the games side of things, and lets you choose from 100 countries and focus on taking them all the way to the World Cup.

Another rather interesting application for the iPhone is the Vuvuzela World Cup app. Great fun this is, just make sure you do not over use it. Not familiar with a Vuvuzela? Check out what it is here. This app will let you blow into your iPhone mic, and lets you play the Vuvuzela as if it was a real one. There is also a two player mode to see who can blow for the longest. Have fun with this one.

There are also three other iPhone applications available in ITV1 2010 FIFA World Cup, which would be the go to application if you want to be able to watch highlights, all for free. FIFA World Cup is an official game from EA, and Sun Football – World Cup Edition is another app that brings, news, stats and all the rest of the football info. The difference being that this also comes integrated with The Sun’s World Cup Dream Team fantasy league, letting you control your entire squad from your phone.

It seems as though Nokia and BlackBerry have taken a backseat when it comes to applications, most of them doing what they all want to do, and that is providing up to the minute World Cup news to you. If you want to see the rest of these applications, then check out the source below.

What are your predictions for the World Cup?

Within the last hour the South Africa World Cup 2010 opening ceremony has kicked off, now with the first match just 1 hour away people are eagerly trying to find out what sites will allow you to watch live streams of all of the games.

If you would like to see the hosts in action in the first game of the 2010 World Cup (South Africa vs. Mexico) you will be pleased to hear that ITV are streaming the game live on their site, coverage starts at 2.30pm GMT.

The other game taking place today is Uruguay vs. France, this game kicks off at 7.30pm, if you check out this link nearer the time you can watch live video and live text commentary.

When the last World Cup took place Twitter was still in it’s very early stages, therefore it will be interesting to see just how Twitter copes with the huge traffic that the competition will cause. Twitter have set up their very own World Cup Twitter page, here you can see a continuous feed of top World Cup tweets.

Facebook has also posted their own Guide to the World Cup, here you can find links to build your own World Cup Dream Team (click here), support the World Cup 1GOAL charity (here). Perhaps the most impressive link is “Goal! The Facebook Guide to the World’s Biggest Sporting Event” here you can find lots of links to sites which are streaming the game live (however most of these are foreign links, except ITV).

Also worth checking out is the official FIFA website, here you can see all of the relevant information regarding the upcoming games, including a countdown timer, squads, results etc.
