Developed by Romeo Ferrari the 500C is dedicated to the emerald coast, exclusive holiday destination for the rich and famous.

A limited run of only 50 will roll out of the workshops in Milan, and will be garnished in a two tone emerald green-beige paint scheme. Coupled with this, new style 16-inch alloy wheels and twin exhaust finish off the exterior styling.

Moving inside the ‘Sardinia’ features cork detailing taken from the Italian island’s oak trees. The wood touches are splashed around on the gear stick and dash finishes. This latest cabriolet version will be launched today, April 12 in Japan. The new vehicle will be unveiled outside Diesel flagship store in Piazza S. Babila.

The Fiat 500C by Diesel will then be shown to the rest of the world from May in Italy. The starting price for this small car will be €18,000, more than 6,500 units of the saloon version have already been sold. This just shows how popular limited editions versions of the Fiat 500 are – and will become even more popular once word gets out in the U.S. The Chrysler Electric Fiat 500 is to hit the U.S. market in 2012, so they know all about this small little vehicle.

The new Fiat 500c by Diesel will offer four engine choices – 1.2 liter, 1.4 liter 16v, 1.3 Multijet and a 1.3 Multijet II. All models offer with a choice of 5 or six speed manual transmission. There is to be a choice of three body and top color combinations – green with black top, elegant black with black or red top and Midnight indigo blue with ivory top.

We mentioned some time back that the Fiat 500 was going to be the first vehicle from the Italian company to hit the American market – we have since learned that there is to be an electric version, which will go head to head with BMW’s upcoming Mini-E.

The electric version of the Fiat 500 will hit the American market in 2012; this will be the first plug-in electric vehicle from either Fiat or Chrysler. This car will not only have to compete with the Mini-E but also the Nissan Leaf electric car.

The standard gas version of the 500 will hit the U.S. later in 2010 and is to be built in Mexico – just like the mew Ford Fiesta. This is a huge gamble by Chrysler, as they assume that Americans are starting to embrace the smaller vehicle like the Europeans have.

According to Times Online, the new Electric Fiat 500 will be a competitive alternative to the Nissan Leaf – which is expected to have a retail price of $30,000.
