As reported from VG247, Famitsu have four screenshots of the upcoming game in their latest edition of their magazine – two of which are taken from cutscenes, and the other two giving us a juicy look at how the battle system looks in the game.

It hasn’t been confirmed by Square-Enix yet, but it looks like the maximum number of characters you can have fighting at once will be three, since both screenshots show three characters in use. On the left hand side of the battle screen shots, you’ll see a few sub menus in play – these are Magic, Item, Summon and EX Play.

While the first three will be familiar to you, EX Play sounds pretty interesting and we’re looking forward to hearing specifc details about it. Is it related to a limit break type of system, or perhaps its a enemy skill, or hybrid move type of command – let’s wait and see.

Check out the screenshots and let us know your thoughts on them. The graphics are pretty nice – we expected that, but what do you make of the battle system layout?

As reported from VG247, Tetsuya Nomura is the producer for FFVXIII and he apparently has made a joke in Japanese magazine Dengeki that we should ‘forget’ about seeing Versus XIII release in 2011.

While he may see the funny side of it, patient PS3 owners will not, although they may take positives in the fact that the surprise title, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will release sometime this year on the console. Then you also have Final Fantasy Project 0 and Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy on the way as well – quite a hectic schedule for Square Enix on hindsight.

The good news, is that the next major reveal on the game will be this Summer at E3 2011, when hopefully Square Enix will finally put a solid release date on the game, and confirm whether it will remain a PS3 exclusive, or venture over to the Xbox 360 like Final Fantasy XIII.

It’s probably not a bad thing if the game does release in 2012 anyway, since we’d hate for Square Enix to rush the game just to suit consumer demand. The big highlight now looks to be FFXIII-2, are you looking forward to it? Considering that Square-Enix made the bold step in bringing FFXIII to Microsoft’s console, would you be surprised to see them do it again with FFVXIII?

It seems like a lot of respect has gone out the window after what Square-Enix did to Final Fantasy XIII, from a PS3 owner’s perspective anyway, considering that all previous titles were on the PlayStation in the SquareSoft days.

If Square-Enix were to finally step up and announce Final Fantasy Versus for the Xbox 360, we don’t think there would be too much of a reaction after what happened with Final Fantasy XIII. Lead Designer Tetsuya Nomura has already said that the game would be developed specifically for the PS3, so there shouldn’t be any complaints of the game being ‘weakened’ in order to comply with the Xbox 360 hardware.

Square-Enix console exclusives used to mean a lot more special a few years ago, but not now since they have opened their arms to multiplatform. Because of this, you have to wonder if Square-Enix has lost a fair portion of their once-die hard fan base.
