Many car fans have their favorite money no object brand, whether it is Italian exotica or American muscle. High on many people’s wish lists is Italian supercar maker Ferrari who for years has provided a number of highly desirable models. Today we can tell you about the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta that is set to break records as the company’s fastest road going car ever.

The company is all set to reveal its new model at the Geneva Motor Show that gets underway next week. According to an article over at CNN Money the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is set to replace the 599 as the car maker’s top of the range offering. Currently the 599 has a starting price of around $310,000, so for the majority of us we will have to keep dreaming of that big lottery win.

Ferrari’s new model will be driven by a 730hp 6.3 liter V12 power plant, and will get the F12 Berlinetta to 60mph from standing in around three seconds, which is the quickest time of any Ferrari. The new model will also have a top speed of 211 mph.

The F12 Berlinetta is not just about speed though as it is also more fuel efficient to the tune of thirty percent compared to the 599. This will help the car achieve around 17 miles for every gallon when be used in the city as well as the highway. The new model is a mid-front-engined coupe, with the V12 engine being positioned in the car as far back under the hood as possible. This has been done to maximize the cars balance and center of gravity.

Ferrari is also promising great space and comfort inside the car even though it has an overall smaller size. Meanwhile the company has seen record sales and profits with 7,200 cars being sold around the world last year, with almost 2,000 of those sales in the US. Do you like the look of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta?

Waiting for the release of the 2014 BMW i8 has been like watching paint dry but we still have a way to go yet, at least there has been a steady stream of information even though most of what we know is speculative. We say this because while we have a lot to go on from the official website this is always subject to change with a project like this. Having said that we now have a much clearer picture of what those doors will look like, and it’s plan to see there are similarities with a few other great cars.

As you would imagine the spies have been out with their cameras and you can see that the doors look very similar to those used on the McLaren F1, SLR and the Ferrari Enzo. This is one of the features that were seen in the concept design; so nice to see it has been left in because there are a number of elements that have been taken out already.

These awesome looking butterfly doors look just like they did in the concept and the cameo role the BMW i8 made in the recent Mission Impossible movie. These doors do seem much safer than those on the Mercedes SLS AMG because we know they require explosive charges if the car roles during an accident, although we cannot be certain if they will still need the explosive charges.

Those of you with eagle eyes will notice the doors are not made mostly of glass; this is for two reasons safety and cost. To see the glass removed from the door below the belt line check out the video, we have to warn you that you could either go snow blind from all the white or suffer an adverse effect from the camouflage.

It’s finally nice to see new cars coming out that truly look like they belong in the 21st century and the BMW i8 is certainly one of them, from the design to the technology used to give it the power and fuel consumption promised to us. While this may be a sports car it shows that cars do not have to be bad for the environment in the process, more details on this can be found from the official i8 webpage.

We are unsure of an exact release date for the i8 but we believe it will be in the latter part of 2013 and will have a sticker price in the region of $350,000 to $400,000 USD. While this will seem like a lot of money you have to realize that the technology being used is cutting edge and comes at a cost.

Most petrol heads will have their favorite sports car they lust after if money was no object. This can range from a number of Italian exotica from yesteryear or modern supercars from around the world. Unfortunately for most of us owning such a vehicle remains a dream unless we get lucky and win the lottery. Today we have news of a Ferrari GTO that sets a massive price over in the UK with records broken.

One of the most sought after classic sports cars is the Ferrari 250 GTO as only 39 were actually made between 1962 and 1964. Now a 1963 model with the number 5095 has been sold for £20.2 million (around $32million). According to The Telegraph it is believed to have been sold by British Businessman Jon Hunt, who purchased the car back in 2008 for a then record of £15.7 million.

The businessman made his money by selling the estate agency he founded before the recession kicked in for £370 million. This Ferrari GTO becomes the second most expensive car ever sold after a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC sold in 2010 in the region of £20 and £26 million.

This sale was done in private during the last two weeks but rumors of it quickly spread among the vintage car industry. Chairman of classic Ferrari specialist Talacrest, John Collins, confirmed the sale had taken place but not the identity of the seller.

Records show however that Mr. Hunt was the current owner of the model number 5095 Ferrari GTO, which is now believed to be on route to Spain to its new owner. When the car was first released during the 60s it came priced at £6,000, and featured a 3-litre V12 engine that produced 300bhp. This meant it was capable of a top speed of 174mph, and could reach 60mph from standing in only 6.1 seconds, pretty impressive for a car of that era.

Even though the world is experiencing tough economic conditions sales of vintage Ferrari’s have shot up, as collectors see them as great investments. The GTO in question made the owner £4.5 million in only three years. A number of famous faces own GTO’s such as Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason who purchased his model in 1975.

What is your favorite vintage sports car?

A 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa has now set the new auction record for a car by $4m. The price that the car went for at Gooding & Company was $16.4 million. The same model also held the previous record back in 2009, but that did not have the history that this model had. The car in question was just a prototype, as a result only 40 were ever made.

It was back in July when there were rumors that a new record would be set, so at least it shows that there is still plenty of money to go round with the super rich – its as if the gap is increasing between the rich, working class and the poor. There are so many nice vintage cars currently doing well at auction, but it shows that the Ferrari is still something special – how can anyone not like them?

According to egmCarTech there are cases where the same model has fetched almost twice the price at private sales – who on earth would pay over $30 million for a car? This does show that people are putting more value on possessions, which is very worrying.

It was not all about the 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, as there were other cars up for auction during Pebble Beach week. The 1931 Duesenberg Model J Coupe went for a staggering $10.3 million’ although this was still $6 million shy of the record it was the highest price ever paid for an American vehicle.

A 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster also got a good price, fetching $9.7 million; although it had been hoped to fetch much more – maybe buyers were saving themselves for the Ferrari? There were two other vehicles that did not fare as well as they had hoped, and those were the 1979 BMW M1 and the 1959 Fiat Tipo 682/RN-2 Transporter. The former fetched $854,000, as it was painted by Frank Stella and the latter fetched $990,000.

Do you think that the price for such cars has now gotten out of hand?

When looking at the all-time fastest automobiles we do not want to go for the obvious, but those that have the x-factor, so this list might be a little different to what you have seen before. The first car that tops the list has to be the Ultima GTR, which is not a production model but a kit car. What is so special about this is how cheap it is compared to the big supercars on the market, and how it has been able to smash a few records in the process.

OK, so we know that it does not have the top speed to beat the Bugatti Veyron, but its 0-60mph time of 2.6 seconds does. The price for the GTR is $27,955.00, but there are a number of optional extras for you to choose from here. Next up has to be the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which as we know is still the fastest production car. The SS is so much heavier, and more expensive than the GTR and could not be further apart.

The Ariel Atom again is not what you would call a top ten fastest car, but it is still one of the fastest when it comes to acceleration, which is 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds. You need to be fit to drive this vehicle though, as we have seen on Top Gear the amount of G-force that you are subjected to. Again, this car is much cheaper than the usual suspects, so ideal for those who have a limited budget, but loves speed.

You cannot have a list without including the Enzo Ferrari, its 221mph top speed is now overshadowed but the Veyron, Zonda etc, but when it comes to looks it has to be at the top of the list. When you look head on you will think that it is just an overgrown F1 car, you will know what we mean if you are a fan of the sport. This does not come as a surprise though, as a huge amount of Formula One technology was used when designing the Enzo, it is for this reason why the car can now fetch over $1,000,000 at auction.

No list can be complete without the McLaren F1, which first went into production in 1992. The technology used was ahead of its time, but is now showing its age. Having said that, put it on a track and the car will show most modern supercars a thing or two about speed and handling. If you were to take the rev limiter off, the McLaren F1 could reach a top speed of 240 mph – not bad for a car that is almost 20 years old.

Well there is our list of what we think are the best fastest automobiles, but would you agree?

You have to hate it when you study the world’s most expensive cars; as for most of us these vehicles are only a dream. The funny thing is, it if was not for us, then our favorite celebrities would not be driving around in them either. Looking over the 2010-2011 supercars list all the usual suspects are there, with one exception from a car built in 1994.

The most expensive car in the world is the Bugatti Veyron, which costs $1,700,000. Some may question if a car is truly worth this much, but you have to remember that this vehicle uses cutting edge technology to propel it to speeds of 267mph, as well as a 0-60 time of just 2.5 seconds.

Next up we have the Lamborghini Reventon, this car is a little slower than the Veyron, but still has a price tag of $1,600,000. One of the main reasons for this high price is because there are only 20 made.

The third most expensive costs $970,000, and dates back to 1994, that’s right it is the McLaren F1. This is the one car that everybody loved, and even though it is now 17 years old, it can still show supercars today a thing or two. The McLaren F1 has a top speed of 240mph and 0-60 in just 3.2 seconds.

These are jut three of the world’s most expensive cars going on the 2010-2011 list, but where will they feature next year? We cannot say for certain if any car will beat the Bugatti Veyron, as the car costs more to build than they sell it for – not certain if other carmakers want to swallow that cost?

Which is your favorite supercar?

As a fan of Formula 1 I find this story an interesting one, but I have to remember not be biased in any way. However, what I can say is that from the moment that Ferrari launched the F150 for the 2011 season, it was only a matter of time before Ford made an issue of it. We now have reports that the Detroit auto company has sued Ferrari for the F-150 trademark, as this is the name on the world most popular truck.

According to an article on Freep, Ford has said that the Ferrari F150 is to similar to the name used on their truck, and they believe that they did this to capitalize and try to profit on this. This is not our words, but what is written in the lawsuit that was issued yesterday.

The Italian F1 outfit said that they chose this name to celebrate the 150th Unification of Italy; we all know how passionate the team is about their country. Ford has said that Ferrari wants to increase its market share in the U.S, and by using the name F150 could confuse consumers.

I do not wish to take sides in any way, but surly consumers will know the difference between a truck and a single-seat car that can hit over 200mph? Ford is asking the courts to stop Ferrari from using the name, as well as looking for damages. The Blue Oval does not have that long to try and get the ban passed, as the F1 season is due to start next month.

Formula One website Speed TV also adds that Ford is not happy with the www.ferrariF150.com website. If Ferrari is forced to close this website and change the name of its 2011 F1 challenger this could upset thousands if not millions of Tifosi around the world.

Do you think Ford is right to sue Ferrari for using the F150 name?

The Ford GT is something that stirs up almost all drivers in the U.S., as the GT40 was considered to be one of the best racing cars of a generation. However, that image was tainted a little when the 2005 GT was launched, as not many units were sold. I can still remember the hassle that Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson had with his. Thankfully a new breed is on the way and will be called the Ford GT Hybrid.

Auto Express has the exclusive on this story (see images here) and it is said that the latest model will be like an updated version of the famous GT40, while taking some design features from the GT90 Concept. The auto website believes that this new greener supercar will go head-to-head with both Ferrari and McLaren, but will cost much less.

The new GT Hybrid looks set to get a V8 engine, which will work in conjunction with an electric motor and is said to produce around 600bhp. With that kind of power, the new GT should have a 0-62 time of 3 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph – that’s supercar territory.

There are so many things that we do not know still, such as price and release date. This has to be the best time yet for Ford to launch such a car; we just hope that it has a better time than the last GT model.

The Ford GT90 mentioned above never made it to production, and there were many reasons why – maybe the dream was not achievable for Ford back in 1995? You can find more details and images of the concept here.

Will the Ford GT Hybrid be a success?

Ferrari has been guilty of two things as far as we can see, the first is not offering a four-wheel drive model and the second is not thinking about fuel-efficiency. However, the recent unveiling of the FF has just cleared both those matters up, as this is their first ever production model that supplies power to all four wheels.

Autocar reports that the Ferrari FF will replace the ‘612 two-plus-two coupé’, some fans of that model might be feeling a little sad about that news, but the Italian carmaker does offer something in return with the FF. Yes, that’s right a Ferrari that is said to be able to not only drive on all roads but all conditions as well.

The FF will still have a V12 engine, which will produce 650bhp. What makes this car rather unique compared to other Ferrari models is its stop-start technology, which is said to improve fuel economy by 10 percent. 0-62 takes just 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 208mph; both figures are an improvement over the 612.

Chris Knapman from the Telegraph has been looking more into Ferrari’s HELE system, and informs us that fuel economy will be 18.3mpg, or 360g/km of Co2. Although this sounds like a lot, you have to remember that Ferraris of the past, like the 458 Italia have been much higher. However, there is one model of the Prancing Horse that has better fuel-economy, the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari – although not a full Ferrari though. As yet there are no price details.

Whenever an electronics company sticks the Ferrari name to a device you know that there will be a premium to pay, and Hasselblad H4D Ferrari Edition Camera is a fine example of this. You can now purchase this limited run camera for the price of €21,499, tax has to be added on top as well.

Hasselblad believes that this is the new generation of camera, and is designed for those who want the best image quality from a shot – it will need to deliver if it has the iconic Italian Prancing Horse logo on it. There is to be only 499 units made, not certain how quick these will go, but you had best get your order in – just in case.

So what makes this camera stand out from Hasselblad’s other models? Well Dpreview points to the fact the most obvious, that famous color and the badge. As for the hardware, you get a 80mm lens (bumping the price up a few more (Euros) and a dual layers.

To try to justify that price you get a specially handmade case, no doubt in Ferrari colors as well. One feature that is worth a mention here is Hasselblad’s Phocus Quick software, making it much easier for you to take those fast action shots – even a Ferrari F1 car going past at over 200mph. For those of you looking for an alternative, then maybe you should consider the Hasselblad H4D-31 or CFV-50?

Do you think that Hasselblad H4D Ferrari Edition is worth the price?
