These activists are backed up a former FDA commissioner, his name is David A. Kessler and he believes that reducing the amount of nicotine in cigarettes would reduce cravings, he says that this could result in saving 200,000 to 300,000 lives a year.

Kessler was also pretty critical regarding the measures already in-place, the FDA had nothing to say on Kessler’s comments, however did say “one of the goals of the agency is to promote cessation in order to reduce the public health burden of tobacco use”.

Apparently next week the FDA will ban the terms “light,” “mild” and “low tar” from cigarette packaging and marketing, there may also be a future ban on the use of menthol in cigarettes.
