Recently the Gigabyte T1006 showed up at the FCC, after sifting through the boring paperwork we can finally reveal some interesting information regarding this netvertible (yes, that is what they are calling netbook which boasts a display which can be flipped over and used just like a tablet).

The T1006 will feature an LED backlit 10.1-inch display which outputs at 1366 x 768, an unspecified Intel Atom processor (we presume this will be dual-core), there will also be Intel GMA 3650 graphics, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, an optional 3G radio, VGA out, HDMI out, 1 x USB 3.0 port, 1 x USB 2.0 port and one combo USB/eSATA port.

You can see the user manual here, it clearly shows that there is also a webcam, microphone, a memory card slot, a touchpad, built-in speakers, Ethernet, a headphone jack and a microphone jack. We can also confirm that there will be just 1 x DDR3 slot (support for 4GB of RAM), an unspecified SATA HDD and Windows 7 (actual version is unclear, but we presume Starter).

In terms of size and weight we are told to expect dimensions of 265 x 214 x 41.4mm and with its battery fitted it will weigh roughly 1.48kg. It is by no means light and dainty and in our opinion the design looks dated already (see these pics). Obviously it was never going thin due to the mechanism which allows the display to flip over, but things like the protruding battery (see below) make you think you’re looking at a product which arrived a few years ago.

We currently have no idea of pricing and release date details, therefore we will keep you posted as we hear more, hopefully then we will find out what processor it’s rocking as this could potentially make or break this netvertible.

Is this the worst-looking netbook of 2011?

Just over two months ago we heard the Motorola Droid Bionic was going to release soon, according to an official statement from the Motorola Mobility Media Center. The first DROID was released around 2-years ago, and the new Verizon Droid Bionic will bring a new form that is based on what the user apparently wants, and if the hype is anything to go by, it could be one of the best Motorola phones in 2011.

It looks like we’re one step closer to the Motorola Droid Bionic after an apparent FCC filing, which includes wireless standards b/g/n, EVDO and LTE at 700MHz, and an inductive charging battery cover, which points to only one device on our minds, the Droid Bionic.

You can see the full FCC filing on two pages via the official website, this page and here, although there are no photos or user manual for the possible Droid Bionic filing. One of the PDF files points to a confidentiality request regarding the “application for certification of FCC ID: IHDT56MX1”. The file found here outlines what documents are marked confidential; these include transmitter characteristics, parts list and tune up procedures, schematic and block diagrams. The file continues to state “Motorola Mobility, Inc. requests that these exhibits be held as Permanently Confidential, and not be made routinely available for public inspection. Motorola considers that the information in these exhibits should be classified as trade secrets, pursuant to 47 CFR Section 0.457(d) and Section 552(b)(4) of the Freedom of Information Act”.

This is because Motorola feel that the public disclosure of these materials may be harmful to them, and provide a benefit to its competitors. For now you’ll have to wait a few more weeks until the official photos and user manual are made public. If this FCC filing really turns out to be for the Droid Bionic, then we’re pretty close to a release, which ties in with the promise of a “summer” release.

You can see one picture that was allowed to be made public below, expect more information to follow in the coming days and weeks. As always keep updated with PR via our apps, Twitter and Facebook.

Some of the recent news and rumors surrounding the Droid Bionic release include a few reasons why the summer release is still on, the social impact of the Droid Bionic and Samsung Galaxy S II (aka S2), and a list of upcoming Motorola phones for 2011.

The amount of tablets being produced this year is making the competition a very high standard which means the newer models will only get better. Today we have news of Sony’s attempt at being successful in the market with one of their first Android tablets the S2.

The company recently gained approval from the FCC for their Ericsson F5521gw modem which supports up to 21Mbps HSPA+ speeds. This means we could be seeing the device released soon, most likely around the original time of release which is this fall.

The modem also supports 850MHz and 1900MHz 3G bands which AT&T uses. The other main feature on these Sony S2s is their removable Li-Ion 3080 mAh batteries, though it is unknown how many hours of life you will be getting out of the device as of yet.

As well as its 5.5” dual touchscreens this tablet has, it will also include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. It is thought that it will also be released with the single screen companion the S1. Check out the article at Slashgear for more about the Sony S2.

What do you think of this dual screen tablet?

We’ve already heard Sprint’s concerns over the T-Mobile and AT&T acquisition, and in the last few days it’s the FCC who has addressed their concerns with 50 questions, which AT&T has to answer in the ongoing discussions.

The list of questions show that the FCC will require some changes if the deal is to be approved, which could include other carriers getting coverage offloaded or more rules on net neutrality. The most worrying part to advocacy groups is that the FCC may not entertain a rejection of the T-Mobile USA acquisition.

This is the first request from the FCC for information regarding the deal, and the questions should give more insight into why AT&T need T-Mobile’s wireless spectrum, and what the condition of AT&T’s network is currently. The US network will also need to show what other solutions they’ve looked at before making the $39 billion offer.

Those of our readers in San Francisco know all to well about trouble spots for AT&T’s network, and the move to buy T-Mobile’s spectrum will add more capacity to the 3G network, which should improve the overall service. The improvements wouldn’t stop there, AT&T see better rural coverage if the T-Mobile buyout would go ahead and a promise that the United States will get LTE-based 4G covering 97 percent of the population.

Would you like to see AT&T buy T-Mobile, and if so, why? You can read more details on Electronista.

If you’re one of no doubt many people hoping to get your hands on Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 which runs Android Honeycomb, then we have some news which is sure to get you salivating. A Wi-Fi version of the device recently passed an FCC filing.

Not only did we find news of the pass but also blueprints of the tablet which have been sketched to prove it. The last time the Galaxy Tab took the FCC test, it was under a different model name. Now under the model name GT-P7510 the device has reportedly had one or two tweaks made in order to improve it.

This is after seeing what Apple now has to offer with their iPad 2. According to Phandroid, Samsung went back to the drawing board in order to produce an even more competitive device. No news on what the improvements are so far.

More details can be found in the article at Phandroid by clicking the link above where you will also find the blueprint drawings and what they think will happen if Samsung can keep their price competitive.

What do you think of the tablet? Would you prefer a galaxy Tab to an iPad 2? Let us know in the comments below.

To be honest with you a lot of the FCC information is not that interesting, however one of the docs says that the Sensation was received on February 10, 2011 and testing was completed on March 27, 2011.

Some people thought that the HTC PG58100 was in fact the HTC Doubleshot (aka the MyTouch 4G Slide), however AndroidCentral confirmed that this was not the case, the boring name for the HTC Doubleshot is the HTC PG59100, this device has not hit the FCC yet.

Hopefully now that HTC Sensation 4G has the all-clear for a U.S. release T-Mobile USA will soon announce release date, in the mean time you can find out more about this FCC approved smartphone here.

will you buy the HTC Sensation 4G?

We told you recently about AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile USA, the deal which is said to be worth $39 may not get approval from the Federal Communications Commission. The deal will be studied by the FCC, who will want to see if it is the public’s interest.

Lawrence Latif from the Inquirer is reporting in an article, that a FCC official has told the Wall St Journal the deal may encounter problems getting approved. The official said “It will be a steep climb to say the least”. According to the official, the FCC has not even begun formally evaluating the proposed deal yet.

If the buyout gets the go ahead by the FCC it would make AT&T the largest cell phone operator in the US with 129 million users, and will also become the only GSM carrier in the country. Despite the comments a spokesman for AT&T Michael Balmoris said, “The facts will demonstrate that the deal is in the public interest”, and feels competition will continue to grow.

AT&T has put aside $3 billion to pay T-Mobile’s owners Deutsche Telekom in case the deal falls through, if not approved by the FCC. AT&T may have to wait up to a year before any decision is made though, but deals have gone through before despite FCC officials raising doubts.

Do you hope that the FCC blocks AT&T’s takeover of T-Mobile?

Verizon has finally agreed on a settlement figure with the U.S. government for overcharging its customers. The cell phone carrier is to pay $25 million to the Treasury on top of the $52.8 million that Big Red is to pay out to customers, which we discussed in a recent article.

Telecom companies having to pay large fines are nothing new, but it will not be the last time that it happens. The funny thing is, a fine that large is a drop in the ocean to the likes of Verizon Wireless, and will not be missed too much.

Ian Paul from PC World has been looking into this and believes that this will not change anything, saying that “things could get a whole lot worse”, which is certainly a worry if he is correct. This is due to the fact that the likes of AT&T and Sprint is to offer a way for you to charge your account for purchasing music and movies, with interest rates being almost the same as credit cards.

There seems to be no-end to how cell phone carriers aim to make money from its customers, I have a good idea – how about improving on network coverage, speed and customer service?

Do you think that the likes of Verizon and other carriers will ever stop overcharging their customers?

Cell phone carrier T-Mobile is now being sued by Ez Texting over what is reported as Pot-related texts. It is said that T-mobile has been blocking certain text messages because they contained information on the drug marijuana.

The text messaging marketing company helps businesses by sending texts to users for information purposes. According to Edward Moyer from Cnet News, it has been reported that T-mobile restricted access to Ez Texting, saying that they “did not approve” of the website legalmarijuanadispensary.com. This is the website that the text messaging service sent users too.

The website allows for patients who use marijuana to help ease medical condition to connect with each other. The service allows them to discuss a number of things, and get information from details provided by doctors.

The lawsuit that has been filed claims that Ez Texting could go out of business due to being banned by T-mobile, unless the carrier restores its service. The FCC has been asked on a number of occasions to take the power away from cell phone carriers from banning such services – this has now sparked the argument off again – with many believing that it is long overdue that the FCC should now step in.

We already know what the new Sony Xperia X8 looks like, but who would have thought that the FCC would be so quick having a user manual on their website? The pictures of the small Android 1.6 smartphone have only been available for a short amount of time, which you can see over on Engadget.

While visiting the FCC website and clicking on the PDF file it shows that this is the Sony Xperia X8 User Guide – Short Guide. Not sure why they call this the short version, there is still 18 pages of goodness to view?

There is still nothing new to learn spec wise, but at least we get an idea of certain functions of the phone, and getting to know the handset with a handy layout guide. The user manual even explains how to connect the Xperia X8 to a computer, not sure what would be different here than any other handset on the market?

Go ahead and take a look at the PDF file over on the FCC website and let us know if you have found out anything new.
