For those of you who are big into the whole video communication trend, which currently see’s Skype and Facetime as two of the top dogs for in the field, you will be pleased to know that another up and coming application called Tango has evolved on to the personal computer market.

From Tango’s humble beginnings as a free mobile application, Tango will bring its free service to the PC later this summer, and allow users to use their video service to Tango between Windows based PC’s, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch, iPad and Android based tablets and mobile phones. In general, this means that you will be able to chat to people, no matter what platform you are running on your PC, or smartphone. Neat huh?

Tango are one of the latest in a long line of small businesses gone big due to the massive growth in mobile applications since the birth of the smartphone. Currently, Tango has a staggering 18 million users spread over 190 countries worldwide and have seen one million new users every two weeks since its launch on September 30, 2010.

The video communications company is also setting their goals high and say that they want to reach the goal of getting 100 million customers by this time next year. They intend to do this with the new Tango video service for PC, where you can see the first public demo at the FORTUNE Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colorado.

The registering process is said to be simplified compared to other video based communication tools that are currently available too. As Tango is foremost designed for mobile phone use, no username or password will be required to login. All you will need is your mobile number and you are ready to Tango. They also say that Tango will automatically find people you know, which makes life a hell of a lot easier than remembering emails, usernames, and trawling through hundreds, if not thousands of people with the same name.

It seems that the only way is up for a company like Tango. The market for respectable video-to-video, PC-to-mobile communication systems is very limited, but it seems that they have taken the bull by its horns and have closed the $42 million Series B round of funding that enables the company to put its product on the map much more faster and efficiently.

The investment is lead by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, who was also one of the first investors for what we now know as Skype, and after having previous experience in that field, will know where the future lies with Tango.

For more information regarding Tango for PC and mobile, check out their website at www.tango.me where you can sign up for the PC version that will be available this summer. You can also download and check out the application for iPhone and Android devices.

Have you used Tango? Remember it is a free download, so if you haven’t, check it out and see if you prefer it to other video communications tools out there.

It seems that Apple have been having quite a bit of trouble of late with some of their software. There have been issues for owners of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, and even the Apple TV was experiencing problems. Now we are hearing that owners of the iPad 2 have had problems with FaceTime.

Richard Goodwin of Know Your Mobile is reporting some users of the iPad 2 are reporting problems while using the FaceTime application. On Apple’s support forum users are complaining that when they are using the application it keeps freezing.

One user complains that it was working fine at first, but when they restart the application they are met with the image from when it was turned it off. Restarting the device does seem to cure the problem, but another user has complained that it happens every two or three times.

Neil Hughes from Apple Insider is reporting that one user is claiming that a manager of a Verizon store in New York, said the same problem happened on “a lot” of demo units. Some users have gone as far as doing a full software restore of the device.

Have you had any issues with FaceTime on the iPad 2?

With the recent release of the iPad 2 and the news that it will feature two integrated cameras means FaceTime from Apple is certainly continuing to gain momentum. This means more competition for Facebook and Skype, which is why the two companies are said to be in talks with each other about a joint video calling service.

Both these companies are already successful in the services they provide, with Skype’s low rate calls and video calling and Facebook’s growing online community offering a great way to keep in touch with friends, family and the rest of the world.

The new talks follow previous talks between the two giants of communication which led to Skype making voice calls amongst Facebook friends possible. According to Slashgear these talks also briefly covered video calling.

Because of the iPad 2 release it seems this topic is to be discussed again between the two with Facebook now showing interest in the possibility again. More details about the ongoing discussions can be found in the article at Slashgear by clicking the link above.

What do you think of this possible partnership between Facebook and Skype? Will their version of video calling be good enough to compete with the continuous success of FaceTime? Share your thoughts below.

The new iPad 2 has only just been announced and we are just getting our heads round some of the great new features. The new tablet will now come with two new applications built in, FaceTime and Photo Booth.

FaceTime has been available for iPhone users since it was first launched, and now as the new iPad will have two camera’s it has the app built in. With just a simple tap you can instantly make video calls to someone who also has an iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, and Mac using Wi-Fi.

Using FaceTime is easy, just find whoever you are calling from your Favorites list, and tap the FaceTime button. An invitation will pop up on their device asking if they want to join you, when they accept the call begins.

Next up is Photo Booth; this will allow you to take snapshots of you and your friends in funny and bizarre ways. This uses the front facing camera, and before Photo Booth takes your photo it adds a bright white light to your face. You can then see a preview before you take the photo.

You can add different effects which include making yourself look like an alien, twist up your face, make your photo look like a comic book character, and much more. Photos can be sent to friends in Mail, added to a contact, and everything is automatically saved to your photo library.

Ever since Apple first introduced us to their FaceTime video calling service last year, we’ve seen a few other rivals come onto the market. This includes the iMovicha app for Android, Symbian, iOS, Mac OS X and Windows 7, and of course the Skype video calling service.

However, there now appears to be a rumor circulating the Internet, which suggests that Microsoft is currently working on a FaceTime clone for Windows Phone 7. According to Toby Knight at electricpig.co.uk (sourced from Neowin), it was in fact a Microsoft insider that revealed the news.

When asked why they haven’t just used the Skype video calling service, the Microsoft insider claimed that the new FaceTime rival app will “reach beyond the hand of Skype.” As William Fenton over at pcmag.com recently reported, the new app could come bundled with Microsoft Live.

There is also a possibility that the new application could link with MSN Messenger. When we could possibly see the arrival of the FaceTime competitor is a mystery at this stage. Although it could come bundled with the Windows 7.5 update, there is more chance of it arriving with Windows Phone 8.

Apple have recently announced FaceTime for the Apple Mac, and with it has come a few problems, especially ones that allow users to make changes to their iTunes account without the need to enter a secure password to do so.

The vulnerability was discovered in a Macworld Germany post, that stated once the application was installed, the corresponding iTunes account would be open to a free password change without the need for entering an old password first. Schoolboy error Apple, schoolboy error.

Although this is a beta, and things like this happen you would have though that this kind of flaw would have been discovered and patched in previous versions. Surely rule number one when developing a program like this would to make it secure. Unfortunatly, it just looks like this was overlooked.

Whats more, if a computer is logged into FaceTime, account settings will display all of the user’s associated data such as birthday, security question and get this — the answer to the security question.

This also means that if a user was to log out of the program, another person could easily log in to the account that had been on last (because the password is cached) and take a look at all the sensitive information from there.

Is there anymore security issues that Apple should know about FaceTime?

Video calling has been available for a while now, but were never that great; that is until Apple launched FaceTime for iPhone 4 users. Those with the fourth-generation iPhone have been talking away on their handsets loving it, but are limited in the way that they can only talk to those who also has the same handset.

However, iMovicha has finally launched its video-chat application that not only works on iOS but Android, BlackBerry, Windows/Windows Mobile and finally OS X. This is the ultimate cross-platform mobile video chat application.

That is not the best part; we all know that FaceTime can only work via a Wi-Fi connection; well iMovicha can do this through 3G as well. This means that you no longer have to be tied to being at home, the office or in a coffee shop somewhere.

We do not have to remind you that those of you with an iPhone 4 will have to jailbreak it. More details on this app can be found by visiting the Movicha website.

Back in June we were introduced to Facetime for iPhone 4, now it is coming to the 4th generation iPod Touch and perhaps Max OS X and Windows.

We have no official confirmation that Facetime is coming to Mac OS X and Windows, however Mac4Ever suggest that Apple is preparing an app, usually Mac4Ever rumors are usually pretty reputable.

This news is backed up by the fact that FaceTime has not yet been made compatible with iChat, which is Mac OS X’s instant messaging and video chat software, many believe that compatibility would have been announced soon after the iPhone 4 launch.

Currently there are two options for Apple, they can either launch a Mac and PC Facetime app, or add support for existing instant messaging and video chat applications such as iChat, Skype, Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk.

Would you prefer a new Facetime app for Windows/Mac or support for iChat, Skype etc.
