We briefly told you yesterday about a special deal that Gap was offering concerning the new Facebook Deals feature. The fashion retailer is planning to give away 10,000 pairs of jeans to anyone who checks in to the new Deals option on Facebook.

Maddy Rowe of Online Social Media, has written an article via Mashable going into more detail about the offer. Anyone who uses the new Deals feature and checks onto the men’s and women’s Gap US Retail location will be able to benefit from the offer.

Users are able to access special discounts by checking into various businesses via Facebook Places on their mobile device. After this has been done the person has to show a member of staff from a Gap store their check in. This then gives them a chance of winning a pair of jeans.

This followed a different offer the retailer ran back in the summer when they joined forces with Groupon. Customers were offered $50 worth of Gap items for $25, which led to 441,000 Groupons being sold beating expectations. At the same time Gap teamed up with Foursquare and gave people a $25 discount for checking in to one of their retail stores.

With the Facebook Mobile Event now over, we heard no word on a Facebook specific smartphone coming any time soon but what we did hear is that a new Android application update is now available on the Android Market that comes with Places and Group integration.

During the event, Facebook did admit that the Android app has been sitting quietly behind that of other clients. Therefore, we have been treated to a little update that now allows us to get involved with the recently implemented Places and Group additions as well as some improvements to notifications.

You can get all the information about the Facebook Mobile Event via Engadget, who have listed a timesheet of everything said by the Facebook team. You can also see some screenshots of the improved version by clicking here.

Have you tried the new Facebook app for Android yet? If not, head on over to your Android Market and download the update.

Social networking is forever evolving, expanding horizons and bringing new improved browsing experiences and services, much like Facebook Places. One that Facebook seems to have capitalized on is using a new browsing-like feature called ‘Discover Facebook Pages.’

More often than not, you will see friends that liked this or that on your news feed or by viewing their profile. They usually do this by using the search feature built into Facebook, but sometimes you just want to browse what is out there incase you would like to be reminded of certain news from different sources.

This is where Discover Facebook Pages comes in. When you click the page link, you will be directed to a page full of thumbnails that has been assorted by filtering all your friends and contacts ‘liked’ pages and displaying them in an easy to see grid.

You will also see a list at the right side of the page that shows your friends and ‘mutual liked’ pages. Clicking on a friend will show you what pages you and your friend both equally like.

The list seems pretty endless, and I can imagine some of you out there spending ages on here trying to find something you like. Just by going through it myself I have added a few more pages to my collection of feeds I’d like to be updated on.

Check out the feature for yourself, and let us know your thoughts on Discover Facebook Pages.

Facebook is one of the most popular products on planet earth, but even with over 500 million users, there are still issues that need ironing out. That being said, blocking a user is a simple pretty process — unless you are Facebook honcho Marc Zuckerberg.

According to an article at Tech Crunch, users who are registered on the Facebook website are prompted with an error when they try and block the chief executive from their accounts.

If you attempt to block Zuckerberg, who is to appear in a special episode of the Simpsons later this year, then you will be greeted with an “General Block failed error: Block failed.”

Facebook are constantly in the internet press, due to security and privacy concerns.

If you are a regular Facebook user on your iPhone, you’ll be very interested to know that the social networking site has just launched Facebook Places. It is a location-based service which some are calling a ‘FourSquare ripoff’.

Launched last night, Facebook Places allow iPhone users to ‘check-in’ to Facebook, using GPS to pinpoint their current location. Once you have checked into your location, Facebook will display other users that are in the exact same location, or close by. Facebook will even send real-time push notifications, to make the service seem live at all times.

One article we have picked out from Business Week, suggests that Facebook Places is a blatent ripoff of Foursquare. Looking at some pictures of the Facebook Places interface, you can definitely see that Facebook has taken their inspiration from Foursquare, and no doubt that their service will become much more popular over time.

What can Foursquare do about this though? Not a lot it seems, since Facebook is so popular and more established. Users will now treat Facebook Places as the ‘best’ location-based check-in service on a mobile device, leaving Foursquare to mull over what to do next.

Where does Twitter come into all this? Will they want to create their own location-based service to compete with Facebook? Or will they remain content with their current features. Check out the full article over at Business Week and let us know your thoughts on this.
