Towards the end of last year we had rumors that Facebook where going to develop a phone, this was denied by the company who said their time and effort would be better spent working with app developers to connect users.

Now Ben Parr over at Mashable.com is reporting that HTC could be about to showcase two Facebook branded devices at next month’s Mobile World Congress. This round of rumors is from City A.M who has a good previous record with phones. They were the first to have the news on the second generation Google Nexus phone.

The phones are said to have modified versions of Google’s Android OS, and will allegedly have Facebook integrations which will allow users to call and message their Facebook friends easier. There could also be integration with Facebook Chat, Events, Messages, and Photos.

Over at PCWorld.com an article is reporting that Joe Hewitt who was behind the iPhone Facebook app, and director of engineering at Facebook Matthew Papakipos, are thought to be involved with the launch.

Todd Haselton from Mobile burn.com wonders if there is any truth in the latest rumors, as there are already apps which offer most of the proposed Facebook phone features. He also thinks HTC already does a god job integrating social media contacts with the Sense interface.

What do you think of these rumors?

As most of you will already be aware, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has already addressed the audience as part of the big Facebook Mobile Event, but he didn’t announce what many of you had hoped for.

Of course we’re talking about the Facebook Phone, as it had been rumored to death prior to the event happening, but it didn’t happen, as it looks as if the Facebook team are more focused on trying to enhance their mobile versions of Facebook in an attempt to provide a similar experience to it’s desktop counterpart.

The big three things that Zuckerberg did announce are Single Sign-On, Places API and Deals Platform, you’ll be able to read specific details on these over at this Phandroid report. The new deals platform sounds good for Facebook users on the move though, as it looks like you’ll be able to take advantage of special discounts in stores, stores which have a deal in place with Facebook – more on that later.

We’re more concerned for your thoughts on the lack of a Facebook Phone announcement though. Has it disappointed you? – Do you still think it will happen?

2010 has been a great year for Facebook, but the last couple of months have been the most hectic. The social networking goliath not only launched its new Places feature in August but also revamped certain features of its site – so what can we expect from the special event that was announced a few hours ago?

The Facebook event is to be held at 10 AM PDT, 6PM GMT, which seems to be all the details that we have. However, Jason Kincaid from TechCrunch has a few ideas of his own.

It is no secret that the iPad is in need of a Facebook app, there are a few third-party options, but those with the tablet device will give them all up for the official Facebook app.

Last month there was all this talk of a Facebook phone, which was later denied, then they kind of went back on the denial of its existence. Well the Facebook Phone could make an appearance at the event – we can only hope.

These are just to expectations from the Facebook special event, what else do you think Mark Zuckerberg and his team will announce during the keynote?

The rumors of a Facebook mobile phone does not seem to be going away, only this morning Gary Johnson reported that the social networking giant is rumored to be working with INQ Mobile and AT&T on a smartphone. This comes just days after Facebook denied that they were working on their own handset. However, TechCrunch has meet with CEO Mark Zuckerberg to find out just what is going on.

Mark Zuckerberg started the interview by saying that when they say, “building a phone” there are so many ways in which we can interpret that. The way I understand what he means by this is that Facebook are not building a phone of their own – instead they are working with current phone makers for deeper integrations.

Zuckerberg seems adamant that Facebook do not wish to compete with either Apple with the iPhone or Google and their smarphones running on Android. If this is in fact the case, then what should we make of the recent article on Bloomberg that reports that Facebook is working on not one but two smartphone devices?

The interview went on with Zuckerberg for over half-an-hour; so you can imagine how long it is, visit TechCrunch now to read it in its entirety. Let us know what you make of it, are they working on a new phone or not?

We reported to you last week that Facebook were working on a cell phone. This was strongly denied by Facebook later that day. But the rumors will not go away with talk today that they are working with cell phone maker INQ Mobile Ltd.

Sakthi Prasad of Reuters is reporting that according to Bloomberg Facebook are working to create two smartphone devices, and could have a tie up with AT&T. The devices would have Facebook’s services and are alleged to be released in Europe during the first half of 2011, and in the US in the second half of 2011.

A spokesman for Facebook Jamie Schopfin had previously said they were not working on its own phone, but said the company had ongoing projects which had “deeper integrations with some manufacturers.”

It is said that no deal has been made with AT&T, who are currently deciding if they want to be the network carrier for the Facebook smartphone. Facebook would not comment on specific phones, but said it continues to work with INQ Mobile. The other companies mentioned could not be reached for comment.

We will probably here some more on this story today, whether it is again denied or otherwise. Do you think we will see a Facebook branded cellphone?

I’m sure you’ve already heard the huge rumors surrounding a Facebook-branded mobile phone, but have you actually thought about what a Facebook cell phone would look like competing against the iPhone or a Google Android handset?

Firstly, if you haven’t read the rumors on the Facebook phone, you should head to our original article here. Facebook has since denied the rumors by saying that ‘building phones is just not what we do’, but if consumer interest is high enough for such a device, the social networking giant may have to reconsider that stance.

If a Facebook phone were to release, then it’s features would obviously be very much tailored towards the social-networking website, with the majority of features allowing you to interact with your friends more easily and better than ever before. Imagine if Facebook were to partner with HTC on this – that would certainly get me interested in the project.

HTC’s impressive hardware combined with Facebook interaction right from when the user boots up his or her device. If Facebook were to explore a custom-branded handset, then I definitely think it would be a hit with consumers.

The question is though, would it be able to do enough to prize consumers away from the likes of an iPhone 4 or Google Android handset? Let us know your thoughts on this one guys.
