As Anthony Taormina over at gamerant.com reports, the ‘Soul Survivor’ mode – which is a unique spin on a popular multiplayer game variant – pits one single player against the entire team at first. However, the odds soon even out when that specific player begins to corrupt the other players.

What makes the ‘Soul Survivor’ mode more unique than the other F.E.A.R. 3 multiplayer modes is the way it changes the rules and team affiliations as it is being played. Once a player is chosen by Alma to begin the game as a spectre, they are then tasked with infecting all the other players in the game.

Once other players are corrupted, the team alliances will change. The remaining players will then be forced to work together in order to fight off the growing spectre force and stay alive. As Anthony Taormina over on gamerant.com recently reported, the latest trailer provides us with a little more insight into the F.E.A.R. 3 game’s ‘Contractions’ multiplayer mode. The mode, which is based around the idea of tower defense, pits a team of players (up to 4) against waves of enemies.

The idea of the ‘Contractions’ mode is that each wave of enemies comes as a result of Alma’s contractions. As Alma’s contractions start increasing, a dense fog cover will force players into more confined spaces. However, a wider range of weapons will become available as the experience escalates.

Although just as the weapons increase in their usefulness, the types of enemies you will be battling against also increases. This will then lead to the appearance of Alma herself. Working as a team is what it is all about in the ‘Contractions’ multiplayer mode.

According to a recent computerandvideogames.com article by Tom Ivan, Warner Bros Interactive has now decided to release a new multiplayer trailer, which provides even more details for F.E.A.R. 3’s Soul King mode. As you know, the aim of this mode is to collect as many souls as you can before the time runs out.

Players will start off each round as a spectre, a tortures spirit with the ability to possess the bodies of its enemies and gain their skills and weapons. Once players have possessed a body, they are able to collect the souls of their enemies by killing them. The player with the most souls at the end becomes the Soul King.

However, the mode isn’t that simple, as players also have to battle against other AI enemies and the 3 other players that are keen to take them down and steal all the souls they have collected. If you die you unfortunately lose half your souls, so you must try and stay alive.

Well now it appears that fans have to wait even longer for the arrival of the F.E.A.R. 3 game, as the first-person shooter’s release date has suffered yet another delay. According to Brad Nicholson at giantbomb.com, the Day 1 Studios’ developed game will now be arriving on June 21st.

A Warner Bros representative confirmed that the F.E.A.R. 3 game – which will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows – had in fact been postponed until June. UK online retailer Game Gears was the very first to report the unfortunate release date delay in a Tweet.

Let’s just hope that when the F.E.A.R. 3 (aka F.3.A.R) game does finally arrive, that fans will think that it was definitely worth the wait. Besides a single player mode, the F.E.A.R. 3 game will also provide players with a co-op mode and enable them to control both Point Man and Paxton Fettel.

According to Hamza CTZ Aziz from the destructoid.com website, the four modes include ‘Soul King,’ ‘Soul Survivor,’ ‘Contractions’ and ‘F***ing Run.’ After spending a bit of hands-on time with the four different modes, Hamza stated that the ‘Soul King’ mode was in fact his least favorite.

All gamers begin this mode as the Spectre (a ghost that is able to possess the bodies of humans), who unfortunately only has one simple projectile attack. However, finding and possessing humans enables the Spectre to make use of their weapons, including shotguns and assault rifles.

The overall aim of the ‘Soul King’ mode is to kill your enemies, collect their souls and end the game as the player with the most souls. Meanwhile, the ‘Soul Survivor’ mode starts off with four players in a room, where Alma randomly corrupts one of the players to convert them to the ghost side.

That corrupted player is then tasked with corrupting the remaining humans before the time runs out. ‘Contractions’ on the other hand is said to be very similar to the Call of Duty: Black Ops zombie mode. Players are tasked with defending their base against a wave of enemies.

Finally there is the ‘F***ing Run’ mode, which involves players running from checkpoint to checkpoint, while shooting enemies and attempting to avoid the ‘Wall of Death.’ You can view a preview video of the four multiplayer modes over on the destructoid.com website.

According to Wesley Yin-Poole over at eurogamer.net, the first-person horror shooter will be arriving in UK stores on Friday, May 27th. The F.E.A.R. 3 game was originally meant to have been released back in the autumn last year, but has unfortunately seen a few delays since then.

The last delay announcement came back in January of this year, when Warner Bros Interactive revealed that they were pushing the game back until May 2011. At the time, the publisher said that the delay was because they wanted to deliver the best possible game to their customers.

F.E.A.R. 3 will bring co-operative play to the spooky first-person shooter series. Gamers will be playing as Alma’s two sons: Paxton Fettel and Point Man. One of the sons focuses on telekinetic weaponry, while the other concentrates on time-slowing and guns.

The game will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Are you looking forward to playing the F.E.A.R. 3 game?

As Tom Ivan over at computerandvideogames.com recently reported, the Collector’s Edition of F.E.A.R. 3 will feature a SteelBook case, a special comic, an in-game gun and a (rather strange) figurine of a pregnant Alma, which according to Richard Mitchell at joystiq.com glows in the dark!!

The news doesn’t appear to stop at the Collector’s Edition details either, as Warner Bros. Interactive has just released a brand new trailer for the upcoming title. As Tom Ivan reports (see recent CVG article here), the trailer shows off the game’s “divergent” co-op mode.

The mode allows players to take on the role of Alma’s sons, Paxton Fettel and Point Man, who both offer different abilities. Point Man is described as more of a traditional gunman that likes firing off rounds, while his brother Paxton Fettel has psychokinetic powers.

There has been no official reason given for the new delay, back in May, 2010 we posted a trailer video showing gameplay footage, therefore we would have expected Day 1 Studios to meet their March, 2011 release date, let’s just hope that the game is worth the wait.

It has now been almost two years since the release of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin therefore fans of the F.E.A.R game series will probably be disappointed by this news, however as I always say it is better to delay a game rather than release something which is not ready to go public.

Video games tend to come out on Tuesdays, therefore it would be fair to say that F.E.A.R. 3 should become available in store on either the 3rd, 10th, 17th or 24th of May 2011.

Best Buy has acknowledged this change in release date and currently have May 24th listed as its release date (see image below), they could be playing things safe and listing the last Tuesday in May 2011 as the release date, or perhaps they have heard something from Warner Bros.

No official reason for the delay has been given, therefore we have to assume that developers have not yet smoothed out bugs etc.

Warner Bros. has also confirmed hat if you pre-order F.E.A.R. 3 from certain suppliers you will get exclusive pre-order items.

If you pre-order from Amazon you get a 12-page F.E.A.R. 3 comic book, if you choose Best Buy you get exclusive access to “The Shredder”, which is a gun which fires heavy rounds with nitrates, finally if you choose Gamestop you receive “The Hammer”, this sidearm uses .50 caliber rounds to deliver twice the damage of a standard sidearm.

For me it is a no-brainer to order your copy from Best Buy or Gamestop to get access to these impressive sounding weapons, which will you choose?

The trailer has been embedded at the end of this post (scroll down to watch it), it features a mix of real acting and gameplay footage, there seems to be plenty of slow-mo gunfire, which may get a bit boring after a while.
