Every year we wonder why Apple don’t do a better job at offering a live video stream of their events, and this year it seems they’ve stepped up to the mark and done just that. You can watch the Apple iPad mini event live with video coverage thanks to an official Apple stream on their TV box, which we’ve been hands-on with just a few hours before the keynote is due to start.

Apple special media event live – if you own an Apple TV you might see a new icon that appeared today, which simply states “Apple Events” and you can see this icon in the screenshot below that we captured a few moments ago. Once you click this icon you will see another page that details the latest “Apple Special Event” that also states “LIVE” in the title.

The Apple special media event is detailed in the description, which explains to users to “tune in at 10:00am” Pacific Time. It also states you’ll be able to watch Apple’s October 23 event with live video directly on the device, and of course whatever you have it plugged in to. For us that will be a Panasonic Projector with a 170-inch screen, so this is certainly going to be one of the best Apple events we’ve ever seen streamed from Apple.

Do you have an Apple TV to watch the live video steam of today’s event? It is worth noting that clicking play now only delivers a black screen with “Apple Special Event” in text, which also explains to come back at 10am, or a start time of 6PM in the UK. The countdown is well and truly began and we have just over 3 hours to go at the time of writing.

We are just over 19 hours away now from the Apple iPad mini event expected on October 23, 2012, so it is the perfect time to make sure you are all set with where you’ll be getting coverage. Apple’s Oct 23 keynote is scheduled with a start time of 10am Pacific Time in the USA, which means 6PM in the UK although a number of live blogs will state the time based on the part of the world you’re living in.

The Apple iPad mini event live – we’ve had a look for coverage via live video streams and haven’t managed to find anything covering the Oct 23 announcement, but you can find a number of live blogs delivering images and text during Apple’s keynote, so we’ve tracked down a number of the most popular streams so you have a choice in case something goes wrong.

CNET are offering live coverage of Apple’s special event, which can be seen on this page and this blog also offers the start time based on your location as seen in the image below if you live in the US with Pacific Time, although you might notice it didn’t quite work out for us as the time had been an hour out. It is also worth noting the so-called “iPad mini event” will be held at the California Theatre, in San Jose, at 10am and not 9am. This is the normal time for most Apple events.

You can expect Apple’s Oct 2012 event to start pretty much like the others do, which will include some facts and figures explaining how well Apple are doing, so expect this to include the 60% adoption for iOS 6 within the first month, and a lot more. We’ve already seen iPad mini cases being prepared before Apple has even confirmed the product exists, and we can’t wait to see what other products Apple class as a “little more” at the event tomorrow.

It is that time of year again and in just over 3 hours the doors open for the 2012 Eurogamer Expo, which is again held at Earls Court in London. Gamers that already have a ticket will surely know all about today’s gaming event, especially what games will be playable at the event, although if you are unaware of what to expect then you need to head over to the official Expo website.

The Eurogamer blog has published some photos of the showfloor within the last 24 hours, and these give you a glimpse at some of the games that will be playable today at the event. You’ll see televisions setup with the latest Farcry, Borderlands 2, Pro Evo, FIFA 13, Wii U, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Grid 2, and plenty more.

If you have a list of games you want to play then feel free to share it, but if we had to pick five then they’d include Doom 3: BFG Edition, Black Ops 2, Dishonored, Crysis 3, and Far Cry 3. The 2012 auto shows have already kicked off and Geneva is just the next in line but is considered to be one of the most important, as the European market is big business and the fact that some of the best automakers reside there as well. There will be a total of 260 exhibitors showing off new and concept models and the press will be able view 70 conferences before the public even get to see these models, although they will feature them heavily on their online publications.

It’s so hard to tell what the standout vehicles will be this year but you can bet they will all be trying to outdo each other, but it’s already easy to see there will be a handful of models that will be generating more interest than others, although this will depend on taste, needs and budget.

One such model is the new GranTurismo Sport and while it’s not a replacement for the aging model we have to consider this a stepping stone, the latest addition will replace the current S model and will come with an improved 4.7-liter V8, which goes from the current 434hp to 460. It’s not just under the hood that has been improved the front fascia now has a far more aggressive look, as does the grille and air apertures. The interior will also see a few improvements such as a new steering wheel and front and rear seats as well, there are currently no details on a release date or price.

Ferrari has been doing all they can to try and make their cars more fuel-efficient but that doesn’t mean they have forgotten their roots, and the upgraded California is proof of this. The guys over at Maranello have worked their magic to give us a lighter more powerful version of this sexy looking car, having shaved off 30 kilograms of weight and increased power by another 30 horsepower. The New Ferrari California will now hit 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds but we cannot put it all down to the upgrades mentioned above, the new ECU and exhaust manifold also play their part as well. Europe will get the refreshed model first with other markets following later.

While it’s easy to get lost in what the big boys will be showing off we have to remember that these shows are more for the typical consumer, so it stands to reason why the 2012 Kia Cee’d could be of interest to everyday drivers. We have to admire how far this automaker has come in the past five years because in the past their designs have been a little on the boring side, but looking at the new Cee’d is like looking at what Ford is now doing. This small hatch might not have the same kind of performance upgrades as other models coming to the show, but it’s hard not to appreciate beauty when you see it. The interior has also seen an upgrade but not as much as we had hoped, although we still see it as a vast improvement on the current model.

The Geneva Motor Show would not be what it is today without the concepts that we get to see, and the press will have a field day with two models coming to the event in a couple of weeks. The first is the Infiniti hybrid sports car concept, which they have named the Emerg-E. There are currently no official images but there have been one or two computerized models leaked and it’s easy to see why Infiniti does not want to spoil the surprise, but we do know the car will use a combination of an internal-combustion engine and an electric powertrain. The system will be similar to what the Fisker Karma uses and not the Prius, so should achieve much better performance than the latter – well it has to with a design like what we expect.

Finally Jeep is to show off three models the first two are concepts intended for production, while the other is a special edition model. The Jeep Grand Cherokee (if it goes to production) will come with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine and have a sporty exterior and interior and a number of different technologies to make driving both safer and easier. Second up there will be the Jeep Compass, which is considered to be a compact off-roader but if we had to choose then we would have to go for the special edition Jeep Wrangler Mountain because it looks so raw. If you ever want an off-road vehicle to stand out in the crowd then this is it, but most of this is due to the Gecko green color.

These are just a handful of what the press will get to see two days sooner than the public at the Geneva Motor Show 2012, but if these are not to your liking then maybe the videos below might be of more interest to you?

Depending on budget and taste the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible has to be the best of the three because with the top down you will be able to hear those 650 horses of pure power, which is almost 100 horsepower more than the Camaro ZL1. All that power comes from the 5.8-liter V8 engine and has a supercharger thrown in for good measure, which ensures a smooth pickup in power when compared to a turbo.

Most convertibles add a little extra weight for more strength to the frame becasue it does not have a roof to make the car stiffer, thankfully there is a huge set of Brembo brakes and Bilstein shocks to handle the extra power from that engine all of which is channeled through an improved 6-speed manual transmission.

Next up we have the 2013 Chevrolet 427 Corvette 60th Anniversary Package, which we have to say looks awesome on its own but lacks the aggressive feel when parked next to the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible. The 427 doesn’t have as much power as its rival but there’s still 505 hp on call for when you need it, all of which comes from a huge 7.0-liter V-8 LS7 engine but it’s those extra features that make this model very special.

The rear spoiler has been changed for this special edition, there is also gray brake calipers, limited edition wheel center caps and a diamond white leather for the interior. To us it doesn’t matter if the 2013 Chevrolet 427 Corvette 60th Anniversary Package has less power because it all becomes irrelevant once you reach a certain speed and your ears struggle to cope with the wind from not having a roof.

For those who would rather have a more practical drop top then maybe the 2012 Mazda Miata Special Edition is more for you, it’s not only much tamer but the price is more realistic as well. There is to be just 450 of these vehicles with a smaller 2.0-liter 167hp engine but what this lacks in power more than makes up for in handling and fun factor, which are two of the most important features of a car like this. Some of the main features are Bilstein shocks, sports suspension, LSD and a choice of two superb paint finishes. Looking at today’s schedule below we can see there is a lot to get through in 11 hours but it’s easy to see that there’s something for every taste, so if you like SUVs, muscle cars or listening to the awesome entertainment systems that will be in upcoming vehicles then today’s Chicago Auto Show has you covered.

We know you have different tastes when it comes to what is on offer at these shows but if we could pick just four events going on today at the auto show then we would have to pick:

The Annual Jeep Track where you get see how a Dodge/Jeep handles on an off-road circuit, which is where these vehicles were meant to be. A pro driver will put either the Jeep Wrangler or Dodge Ram through its paces, which we have to say will leave you wanting more and there’s nothing like having an SUV with a load of mud on it because that’s the way they are meant to be.

For those who care more for the environment then maybe you should head over to the Chevrolet Volt Ride & Drive Experience display, which is where you will get to learn more about the technology along with the benefits involved when owning one of these amazing vehicles. However, we do have to warn you the technology is still young and will be a few more years before vehicles like these will become more cost effective. If you are still interested then you may as well head over to the Nissan Leaf Ride & Drive display as well.

There are a number of drivers who would rather see cars that perform at their limits, so the Subaru Test Drive display in the South Hall could be perfect for you. We’ve seen them powering round racetracks and dirt roads so here’s your chance to see them up close and personal.

What makes this record so special is the fact that fewer bottles of Coke and Mentos were used than the previous model. These experiments may be fun, but there is a serious side to them, as one day we could use our own waste to power our vehicles. It’s already happening now, as we have seen on one episode of Top Gear where people are powering their cars on the methane collected from cattle – it’s true.
