The anticipation was building today, as a few colleagues and myself from PR were sitting on a train waiting to take us to London Victoria, then on to Earls Court. Our destination was EuroGamer 2011, and this year was going to be different for many reasons – the first being in the main hall. The reason for this was because the event had so much more to offer than it did last year.

The moment that we got to the venue we were taken back by what we saw, there were two tanks outside the building, which were all part of the promotion for the game World of Tanks. As always you are given a bag with a few freebies inside, a bottle of water, pen and pad, map layout etc. However, we knew where we were off to first, Battlefield 3. However, we were amazed by a huge queue, so we thought we would investigate what it was all about. It was not long until we learned that it was for the OnLive game system.

The reason why the line was so long was due to the fact that the company was giving away a free system if you signed up to the service. Well, you needed to be committed, as waiting time was around a couple of hours. However, our very own Daniel managed to speak to one of the main guys from the company and was able to get hold of a system without waiting at all. He has already offered a short post on this, and will follow up over the next few weeks about his experiences with the device – we do look forward to see what he thinks.

So now that that was done it was onto BF3, and we went there with so much anticipation. I had been expecting this to be very impressive, but for some reason was not blown away. We expect Jamie to speak about this over the next few days. Next we decided to visit the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Now I had expected this to not be as good as the new version of Battlefield, and was not going to purchase it – just proves that you should not go by what you see on YouTube or anyone else’s experiences except your own. I only had a few minutes with the game, as felt that Daniel would enjoy it more.

While I’m not as dedicated to certain game franchises as some of the PR Team, I couldn’t help but be impressed by the graphics on Forza 4 and Need For Speed: The Run, although the PR FPS enthusiasts had a lot of game time with MW3, Uncharted 3, BF3, and other FPS games. Their first impressions and hands-on reviews will follow over the next week. The queues for each game were longer than ever, which would not be popular with gamers, but that’s just part of the experience

Today some of the PR team visited EuroGamer 2011 to get hands-on with the best and latest games hitting consoles this year and next. While graphics were a hot topic within the team for certain games, and we all had our favorites, you couldn’t deny the hype building around one new service called “OnLive”.

After spending nearly a year in the U.S. with people going crazy for the cloud gaming experience, the OnLive game system went live in the UK last night and was the highlight of EuroGamer today. The line of people wanting to register for OnLive and pickup their free OnLive game system did not stop all day, and stretched around the show floor most of the day.

We know everyone loves something for free, the hardware in this case and your first game for one pound, there had to be more to this new cloud gaming service and after giving it some hands-on time, we could see why.

Some of the games had cartoon like graphics but others, especially the racing games, had really crisp and impressive lag free graphics. The on-demand video game service will stream some of the latest games to your HDTV via a small OnLive box, which looks professional and comes with a smart game controller to match.

Look out for our first impressions and hands-on review over the coming days; remember to join our Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest updates. “OnLive will change everything,” said Brian Jaquet, OnLive’s Director of Corporate Communications, and we think he’s right on the money there. Find out more at onlive.co.uk.

We first wrote about this year’s Eurogamer Expo back in November last year, when we provided our readers with confirmation of the dates and venue. If you read the article in question, you will know that the 2011 event – which begins on September 22nd and ends on September 25th – will again be taking place at Earls Court in London. What we didn’t give you details on however was the list of playable games.

However, we have some good news now for those of you that are thinking about attending the 2011 Eurogamer Expo, as a few more details have recently started to surface online. According to eurogamer.net’s Robert Purchese, this year’s event is expected to be bigger than ever. Tickets are priced up at £10 for a full day (from 11am until 7pm), and £7.50 for the afternoon (from 2pm to 7pm).

If you are a Mass Effect fan, you’ll be really pleased to know that BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 game will be amongst the playable games at this year’s event. The action role-playing game is not due to be released until 2012, which means that attendees will in fact be going hands-on a few months before its launch. Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed: The Run racing game is another playable title confirmed for this year.

Need for Speed: The Run – which will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS – is scheduled to launch late November, so those who attend the event will be able to play it weeks before it actually arrives in stores. Another of this year’s playable games according to Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips will be id Software and Bethesda Softwork’s Rage.

Not only will the Expo include developer sessions and hands-on gaming, but it also consists of The Retro Arcade, The Challenge Mode, fan meets, The GamesIndustry.biz Career Fair and The Indie Arcade, which according to Tom Phillips is being presented by publishing giant Sega this year. Other playable games include Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, the much anticipated Battlefield 3, FIFA 12, Inversion, Silent Hill: Downpour and Dark Souls.

You can read more about the event via the eurogamer.net website. Will you be attending the 2011 Eurogamer Expo? If so, which game are you looking forward to testing out the most?

For the last two years I have attended in the Eurogamer Expo’s in London, we now have confirmation of the dates and venue for the 2011 event.

Like the 2010 Expo, the Eurogamer Expo 2011 will take place at Earls Court, London, it will start on 22nd of September 2011 and will end on the 25th of September.

Eurogamer’s organizers suggest that the 2011 expo will be even better than 2010, two months ago at Eurogamer there was a long list of impressive titles at the show, these included Gears of War III, Medal of Honor, Gran Turismo 5, Kinect, Fable III, Fallout: New Vegas and many more.

It is thought that Earls Court should be able to accommodate roughly 30,000 visitors throughout the show, at the moment tickets are not available, however it is thought that ticket information will be announced pretty soon.

Were you impressed with Eurogamer 2010? If so, will you attend Eurogamer 2011?
