Last week we confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 would be playable at this year’s Eurogamer Expo, sure enough the game was there when we attended the event yesterday and we got some hands on time with the new Survival mode, however there were only two maps to try out – Dome and Paris. At the event there were roughly 30 HDTVs hooked up to Xbox 360s with Turtle Beach headsets and players could link up with the player next to them to take on the Survival mode.

We spent most of our time playing on the Paris map and after two poor attempts we managed to work out some tactics and start firing our way through wave after wave of the enemy. Like in Zombies you start off with just a pistol, however what is good about Survival is the fact that you can pick up weapons from downed enemies – this is great in the early rounds when you have no money and you should have no trouble getting your hands on a shotgun. Ammo on the other hands is something which you have to keep an eye on, weapons you pick up don’t tend to have many bullets left – so you will find yourself running over the enemies you kill in an attempt to get hold off more ammo.

In terms of gameplay and graphics you can tell that this is a Modern Warfare game as soon as you pick it up – the enemy AI and animations are similar to before and the weapon sound and visuals are great – in fact the sound probably blew us away more than the graphics, but that’s because we expect impressive graphics from Modern Warfare games these days. There is nothing really unique about MW3′s gameplay, however Survival mode does get quite tactical the further you progress – this makes having a headset and talking to your teammate vital.

Early on you will find it extremely easy, and like in Black Ops zombies you can get away with stabbing a lot of enemies, however dogs came after us at approximately round 4 and they are accompanied by a fleet of soldiers, which means you not only have to avoid gun fire but you also have to watch out for dogs pouncing on you. Approximately 6 rounds in you have two helicopters to shoot down – this forces you to use one of the three armories to buy something to take down these choppers, the predator missiles done the job for us!

We didn’t have much time to get further than wave 7 or 8, but we found that claymores came in very handy if your teammate was downed and you were left with a barrage of enemies to deal with – this is the only time which we felt the pressure build up, but we are sure that later waves of enemies will really test your skill and get your blood pumping.

During our hour or so with MW3 we were blown away by just how smooth things were running despite the fact that the game is still over a month away, in fact we would go as far as saying tat Survival mode is ready for release – it’s just a shame that we didn’t get to try out the campaign and standard multiplayer to see how these aspects of the game fared.

We think that all in all Modern Warfare 3′s Survival Mode will be a popular addition to the game, however it is in our opinion nowhere near as good as zombies – in zombies you have easter eggs to investigate, up to four players in a game, the mystery box, routes to open up, unique maps, far-fetched weapons and much more – whilst MW3 Survival is quite linear in comparison, but we only got to play early waves so perhaps things get better the further you get. We must say that the game’s sounds paired with the Turtle Beach headset was a great combination.

The video below gives you a taster of what you can expect from the Paris map.

As you are aware the Product-Reviews team attended this year’s EuroGamer Expo yesterday and got our hands on some of this year’s biggest upcoming titles, one of which was Battlefield 3 and despite being impressed we couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

We played the PC and PS3 versions of BF3 and probably racked up approximately 2 hours of hands on time with EA DICE’s Modern Warfare 3 rival – however during our time with the game we never experienced any environments which were destructible, this surprised us as such features have been touted by many as major Battlefield 3 selling points. The top-end PC hardware which we played BF3 on was undoubtedly DX11 compliant, and it is DirectX 11 which is said to give the PC version of Battlefield 3 its destruction – but despite this we never saw explosives blow holes in the side of buildings etc. Could it be that the PC version we played at EuroGamer was not DX11? None of the staff we spoke to could answer this question.

If you check out our previous Battlefield 3 destruction article you will see that BF3′s destruction looks great, however when we shot at trees and buildings there was no major affect – also we didn’t managed to demolish any walls with explosives or RPGs – perhaps the walls we went for were indestructible – your guess is as good as ours (if you attended EuroGamer and managed to blow up a wall let us know in the comments section at the bottom of this page).

With the Battlefield 3 beta kicking off next week and two more days of the expo to go perhaps the level of destruction in Battelfield 3 will become more apparent soon, one thing which is for sure is that the game at the show was pretty good, however if you thought all map features would feature some level of destruction you will be disappointed.

Have you played a pre-release version of Battlefield 3? If so, were you quite unimpressed by its destructive environments?

Later this week the Product-Reviews team will be attending this year’s Eurogamer Expo to check out some of the biggest games which are in the pipeline, so far we have been looking forward to getting some hands on time with shooters such as Battlefield 3, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, however we have just heard news that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be playable!

Currently details regarding which aspects of the game will be playable are scarce, however we really aren’t to bothered about the campaign and would love to play the new multiplayer games modes (Kill Confirmed and Team Defender) along with Infinity Ward’s answer to zombies: Spec Ops Survival.

We doubt that we will be allowed to record any of our time with MW3, however we will be able to write about our hands-on experience – therefore we would love to hear from our readers who are Call of Duty enthusiasts. Let us know what aspects of the game you want us to concentrate on including guns to try out, killstreak rewards to obliterate the enemy with and more – you will find the comments section towards the bottom of this post.

You can see a full list of games which will be on show at this year’s expo via this link, it kicks off at Earls Court on September 22nd and runs for three days, we will be there when the doors open so you should keep a close eye on Product-Reviews.net for all of the latest gaming news.

Other games which we can’t wait to try out include Forza 4, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Mario Kart 7, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Saints Row: The Third, UFC Undisputed 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – which games would you like to find out more about later this week?

For the last two years I have attended in the Eurogamer Expo’s in London, we now have confirmation of the dates and venue for the 2011 event.

Like the 2010 Expo, the Eurogamer Expo 2011 will take place at Earls Court, London, it will start on 22nd of September 2011 and will end on the 25th of September.

Eurogamer’s organizers suggest that the 2011 expo will be even better than 2010, two months ago at Eurogamer there was a long list of impressive titles at the show, these included Gears of War III, Medal of Honor, Gran Turismo 5, Kinect, Fable III, Fallout: New Vegas and many more.

It is thought that Earls Court should be able to accommodate roughly 30,000 visitors throughout the show, at the moment tickets are not available, however it is thought that ticket information will be announced pretty soon.

Were you impressed with Eurogamer 2010? If so, will you attend Eurogamer 2011?
