You know that the release of Battlefield 3 is close, as Razer is releasing a range of new products to compliment the upcoming game, which we have already covered. We have also discussed how you can customize weapons; so we thought that we would now elaborate on these weapons. However, there is a fear that some of these are not realistic enough, which could cause an issue for die-hard fans of these types of games.

For gamers who love those one hit kills with a sniper rifle, you will be disappointed, as it will not longer happen. However, in a way to keep you happy there will now be even more weapon recoil, which is what Demize99 explains on his Twitter account. For those of you who do not know, his real name is Alan Kertz.

He has discussed that the M16A3 and M16A4 will feature in BF3, but it is still not known how the two differ. There is no AK47 in the new game, but you will be pleased to know that the AK47M has made it. If you hope to be able to customize your pistol then forget it, as it is not available. However, in a way to compensate us for this EA offers a number of different pistols to choose from.

Some games do not react how they should when it comes to how bullets drop from different guns. We all know that they fall differently depending on the velocity, so we have to say that it is a nice touch that the developer has added this little yet important tweak.

While in some cases these tweaks will add to the realism of the game, we cannot say the same for no more one-hit wonders from a sniper rifle. We are no experts, but we know that all it takes to bring down a target is one shot from a sniper.

We are 100 percent certain that Battlefield 3 will be released in October, but we are not so certain about the iPhone 5. We know that Apple is holding an event in September, and it is expected that their new smartphone will be released the following month. This got us thinking though, as these are considered to be the biggest launches in the gaming and smartphone market, so could they clash and affect each others sales?

BF3 will be released in the US on October 25, 2011, 27th in Australia and the 28th in Europe. As for the iPhone this is expected to be released toward the beginning of that month, so could take peoples minds of the game launch, or even leave them with little or no money for Battlefield 3. Ok, so we know that this is a little far-fetched – but is it really?

We say this because money is now much tighter than it ever was, even worse than this time last year, so consumers will be left with a dilemma; do they save their money and not purchase the iPhone 5 and spend their hard earned money on BF3 and even MW3 the following month, or blow the lot on Apple’s new smartphone?

Personally I believe that sales of the new EA game will be very high and set new records for the franchise, but I am not so optimistic for the fifth-generation iPhone. The problem here is the fact that there are a number of Android phones being released near October, plus the fact that Black Friday is drawing ever closer. This is the time when consumers will save every last cent they have in order to grab themselves a bargain in November – meaning that they will not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a handset if it means that they cannot get that special purchase.

Do you think that Apple have made a huge mistake with an October launch?

Are you one of those people who love to queue up outside their local games store at midnight, waiting to be one of the first to own a brand new copy of their favorite game? If so, then you might find this news quite disappointed as Andrew Wilson, EA Sports’ Executive says they will soon be making all their new titles like FIFA available to download straight to consoles in future. This means queuing outside stores to purchase games could become a thing of the past.

The publisher has been focusing their energy more on their consumers as of late and at the 2011 Develop Conference this news was announced, reportedly influenced by their new focus and as a way of adding to the emphasis on their social aspects. They believe digital distribution is on the rise and when it finally gets here they want to be ready.

In an interview with NowGamer, Wilson explained the reason why franchises like NHL, Madden and FIFA aren’t already available for download is because far more people still go to their local games retailer to get their games on disc even when the option to download is presented to them. He believes this will change overtime and that is when EA will begin their online distribution.

Consumers of other media such as movies, television and music have already made a transition from disc to digital download successfully and EA feel games are taking the same path, hence the reason they are preparing for it now. As part of their preparation for the rise of digital distribution in the gaming industry, the company recently aquired PopCap Games, a casual games developer for mobile phones and online gaming websites.

The purchase cost the publisher $1.3 billion which must emphasize their beliefs that digital distribution certainly represents the future of the gaming industry. Do you agree with EA’s beliefs? How would you feel about downloading games straight to your consoles in future?

One of the most popular video game franchises at the moment is the first-person shooter Battlefield: Bad Company. The hotly anticipated third installment of the series Bad Company 3 is due to hit gaming consoles this autumn and is promising to be one of the best FPS games of all time. When it finally releases it will find itself going head-to-head with probably the most popular FPS franchise at the moment Call of Duty, as they release their latest installment Modern Warfare 3.

An announcement was made today via an email that Geeky Gadgets received from Sony, confirming that the latest Battlefield title, Bad Company 2, is now available for download on their gaming smartphone the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. It appears EA have been quite stealthy recently with the launch of their Flexion store for Android, which saw the release of D.A.R.K for the Xperia Play and now their Battlefield title.

The game features fourteen solo campaign missions and a total of five detailed battle zones in which they take place. Much like the game available on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, players can make their way through the single-player campaign and, using cooperation and strategy, are able to cause realistic destruction of enemies and buildings.

As far as Android FPS games go there is not a lot of quality available at the moment, however EA could be about to change that as Bad Company 2 is reported to have some great FPS gameplay and stunning visuals in terms of Android standards. You can see the graphics and gameplay for yourself by checking out the video of the game in action below.

For now it looks as though Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is an Xperia Play exclusive, which means those of you who own other types of Android phone will have to wait a while longer. In the meantime you shall have to make do with Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja to keep your thumbs occupied.

This is not the first game to be released exclusively to the Xperia Play either. Games like Minecraft and Rainbow 6 are amongst several titles now available on the Sony Ericsson. Many more games are also set to be released on the smartphone before hitting the general Android market such as Dungeon Hunter and Pocket legends.

Are you an Xperia Play owner? If not, do the exclusive titles that the smartphone is receiving tempt you into buying one?

The video game publishers Electronic Arts, more commonly known for games like the FIFA and Madden franchises as well as the franchises Need for Speed and Battlefield, are looking to expand their company across other platforms it seems with their recent acquisition of casual games developer PopCap Games.

The American video game publishers PopCap Games, founded in 2000, is responsible for mini games, which are usually free, such as Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled. Their games can also be found online with websites like Facebook. Bejeweled is their flagship game and has sold over 50 million units across various platforms including the iPhone and iPad. If you haven’t heard of game Bejeweled before, check out the video review of Bejeweled 3 below. You can also download Bejeweled 2 from the iTunes store for your iOS.

In the past acquisitions from big companies have created mixed reactions. For instance when AOL bought Huffington Post the first wave of reactions was relatively positive. However AOL’s co-founder was said to be less than supportive with the buy due to their bad reputation when it comes to past acquisitions.

According to The Telegraph the deal, which is reported to cost around £817 million ($1.3 million) would see EA’s résumé become even more impressive than it already is, as it will bring with a significant improvement to their social aspect. The easy-to-play games that PopCap Games are known for also appeal to a broader audience, which would only benefit EA some more. The deal between the PopCap and Electronic Arts companies is due to close in August and EA say it will help them reach their $1 billion in revenue target from its digital business alone.

This could turn out to be a very smart strategic investment by EA as the demand for online and digital games is on the rise, with reducing numbers of gamers buying games on disc. This also gives them the platform for competing with Zynga, who are also very successful in developing these types of games. EA’s Chief financial officer Eric Brown says this gives them a ‘much stronger presence in social network games.’

Zynga, who are responsible for games like Zynga Poker, FrontierVille, FarmVille and CityVille, currently has over 270 million active monthly users playing their games on Facebook. The company is expected to be worth around $15-20 billion and recently went public to try to raise $1 billion. Will the PopCap-EA deal receive a positive or negative reaction?

If you are one of the many people who like myself are looking forward to the new Battlefield 3 game, we have some news you will be interested in. according to a recent interview, it was established that the campaign mode in the FPS sequel will be up to 12 hours long.

The news comes from the interview that occurred at EA’s pre-GDC showcase where Karl Magnus Troddeson, DICE General Manager first mentioned the game’s single player mode length. He said the aim of the game is to introduce more people to the franchise.

For those that may not have played any of the Battlefield games before, they would want to get to know the game and the lengthy campaign would allow for this. Troddeson also says ‘people don’t want to jump straight into multiplayer.’

He goes on to say multiplayer is more for the hardcore online people that won’t particularly care for the campaign mode and will be straight into the online mode. Sometimes these people would not even touch the campaign mode.

The game is due out this fall. For more details about the interview go to VG24/7. What do you think of the game so far? Are you happy with the length of the campaign? Let us know in the comments below.

Crysis 2 is about to hit the shelves of stores very soon and is promising to be a visual masterpiece. A lot of debate has surrounded its release recently regarding performance on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles over which is better.

We have been doing our best to keep you up to date with the debates and news and can now bring yet news about which console has the better performance this time with the use of video of gameplay footage on the PS3.

PS3 fanboys would have had a minor knock back recently with the multiplayer demo being released, finally, and then taken away again due to connection issues. Crytek have in the past said that both consoles will perform equally and challenged users to find a difference.

As the article at PSLS explains if you were one of the ones who were knocked back by the demo release, don’t be as Crytek claim it was an older build version. As you can see from the video below Crytek can be proud and stand by their word as the footage reveals even on the PS3 the graphics are impressive. Check them out for yourself.

What do you think of Crysis 2 so far? Which platform will you be getting it on? Let us know in the comments below.

The highly anticipated Crysis 2 is on the verge of release and although it doesn’t come out for another week or so there have releases of reviews from official games console magazines, Xbox Magazine and PlayStation Magazine.

As Alan from Product Reviews explains in his article these reviews do not disappoint and can be read in the latest copies of the magazines. What’s more interesting however is the response some of our readers have had in response to the news we have provided.

There has been a lot of debate surrounding performance and graphics of Crysis 2 on both consoles. Seemingly though it appears that both consoles perform equally. To back this point up one person who has commented on Alan’s article who calls themselves Sam, provides a comparison of videos from both versions and as you can see for yourself both look identical.

Sam’s comment reads:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1GBsx4mDto&fe… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srdnh416Wro

First link is the first 9 minutes of the PS3 retail version
Second Xbox. Just move the first video to 2min10 or so and you’ll be able to compare with the xbox version

As you can see, if you set your tv and PS3 brightness and color patern correctly, both game looks exactly the same. People that say otherwise are blind fanboysYou may notice that they have listed the links in the wrong order but you can view both by clicking above. What do you think of these comments? Do you agree that the game is equal on both platforms? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

In the build up to the new and what looks to be improved episode in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 3 we have been able to bring you a fair bit of news regarding its graphics. The FPS is now finding itself as a hot contender to take the crown from the current FPS King Call of Duty with its latest installment being Black Ops.

The Call of Duty franchise has dominated the games market for years now, every new title selling more units from launch than the last. With its continued success this year, however disappointing some may say Black Ops is, there’s no doubt its next title will be hugely popular also. Though this year it will find itself up against a worthy opponent.

In an article by Dawna Wood over at Cnet’s gaming blog site Crave Battlefield 3’s new Frostbite 2.0 engine is being compared with the popularity of the Call of Duty franchise. The new engine will debut with the release of Battlefield 3 and promises enhanced in-game destruction with Destruction 3.0 and will take full advantage of its 64-bit processors and DirectX 11 API. From what we’ve seen so far it is living up to its promises.

You can read the full article by clicking the link above where you will find more details and comparisons between the two FPS giants. Will the graphics of Battlefield 3 be enough is enough to take the top spot for best FPS game or will the reputation of Call of Duty’s fluidity in gameplay and popularity be enough to stand its own? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
