We were expecting to see a massive PlayStation Plus revamp at E3 2012 after increased speculation, and Sony did deliver – sort of. The company announced a new scheme for PlayStation Plus members on PS3 which will see them score 12 free games which are available right now to download as part of this month’s update.

If you previously were unsure as to whether to upgrade to a PS Plus subscription, now may be the perfect time to do so. At E3, Jack Tretton announced that PS Plus members would be getting an ‘instant games collection’ package, bringing as many as twelve free games to the service that would sit on your XMB for as long as you are a member.

Some of the games on offer are of a slightly better quality than we’ve seen in the past, with the likes of Little Big Planet 2, inFAMOUS 2 and Just Cause 2 all part of the package. Sony has promised that the free games will continue each month, although we understand that the games on offer will vary depending on whether you are in the US or EU.

Amusingly, Sony has been boasting about the improvements made to PS Plus, with Sony digital boss Jack Buser even comparing the service to coffee. In a recent interview with GamesIndustry, he said that the content that PS Plus currently offers, all free games and the extras is value for money since it is less than ‘an expensive cup of coffee’ or ‘less than five bucks’ as he put it.

The math behind that theory is when you split the cost of a year’s PS Plus subscription at $49.99 into individual months. That is an amusing way of selling PS Plus when you think about it. How much do you spend on your average cup of coffee at Starbucks, probably more than five dollars right?

If you have recently subscribed to PlayStation Plus or intend to due to this new instant games incentive, let us know if you think the service is value for money or not.

If you are still hungry for more Resident Evil 6 content after watching Capcom unveil a new gameplay trailer at Microsoft’s E3 keynote, we have some great news for you. Capcom has been showing the game off on the E3 show floor and we now have over 20 minutes of brand new gameplay footage for you to check out.

After the mixed reception for Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, there’s obviously a big weight on Capcom’s shoulders to deliver with Resident Evil 6. From the initial gameplay that Capcom has shown, we’re very impressed with what we have seen so far as Capcom seems to be making an effort to try and bring the series back to its horror roots that gamers grew to love on the PS1.

In the three main gameplay videos that we have to show you, we see Capcom demo footage using Leon Kennedy first, then Chris Redfield and then finally Jake. We have to say that the graphics are looking great and we’re guessing this gameplay has been taken from the first level of the game. It seems to be set in a university campus and naturally all the lights have been shut off, with Leon only having a torchlight to navigate his way around.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be much zombie action in the footage. Perhaps Capcom don’t want to reveal too much too early, as don’t forget the game will not be out until October. It’s good though that Capcom has given us these introductions to Leon, Chris and Jake, so true Resident Evil veterans will probably still appreciate this.

How is the game looking for you at the moment? We’ve seen a lot of criticisms already about the style of gameplay, but we think it looks great – certainly better than RE5 anyway.

If you watched Sony’s E3 keynote conference just a few days ago, many of you are probably wondering what an earth happened to the new PS Vita content that was clearly non-existant on stage.

It turns out that Sony simply didn’t have enough time to show it, as one of their aims this year was to condense their keynote and keep it shorted compared to last year. This is pretty mind boggling to us, since they chose to give a 20 minute demo to the new Wonderbook tech as opposed to giving more time to the PS Vita which the handheld badly needs after a few barren months.

The good news, is that Sony does have some brand new Vita content to show off and it comes in the form of their E3 2012 ‘sizzle’ video, which highlights the vast amount of titles and new applications that are on the way this year and next year. A few crackers to pick out are some gameplay for Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sound Shapes and even a quick glimpse of the YouTube app that is coming soon as well.

If you are really looking forward to seeing PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, we’ve also added a separate gameplay video taken from the E3 show floor which gives you a great look at how the game handles on Vita. It’s also worth pointing out that the gameplay apparently features one Vita player (obviously), two CPU players and also one user on PS3 – all at the same time.

Were you shocked that Sony didn’t devote more time at E3 to showing off some more Vita gameplay? It was even worse in a way that when they did finally unveil the COD game as Black Ops: Declassified, they didn’t even have any gameplay or a trailer to show off. We’re also wondering what has happened to Bioshock on the Vita as well – is that still coming out?

The video below is a good one though, even if they are just little teases of gameplay. Check it out and let us know where you stand with the Vita at the moment.

For those of you that were secretly hoping for Sony to announce an early price cut for the PS Vita at E3, prepare to be disappointed. Despite recent confirmation that the new handheld would be getting a discount in France for a limited time only, Sony has confirmed that they currently have no plans to introduce a worldwide price cut anytime soon.

At the moment, the device sells for between £200 and £300 in the UK depending on whether you want a WiFi or 3G console and is a similar story in the US at $249 or 299 for WiFi or 3G. Some people feel that the price is too expensive and after seeing France receive a temporary price cut, wondered if a similar move would be happening in other regions.

For now though, this won’t be happening any time soon and definitely not this Summer. SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke to Eurogamer during E3 and said that their focus for the time being is to ”increase the content and to realise the potential of the system.”

He did however say that this will obviously be a area they’ll need to address in the future, but for now there’s no plans for a price cut to happen in 2012. Considering that the device has only been on sale a matter of months if you take into account the US release, a price cut would have been very surprising anyway.

Gamers may be unhappy with the lack of actual games to play, but Sony are still adding to the system in other areas such as their apps department where Netflix is now available and will soon be joined by the likes of YouTube and Hulu Plus. Going back to that price cut in France though, you can still pick up the system now with a €50 discount until July 15.

Are you surprised to hear talk about a PS Vita price cut so soon after release? Do you think the current price is too much, or is it reasonable for the capabilities and like Sony says, the ‘potential’ that the system has to offer?

If you were specifically hoping to see some remote play action on the PS Vita at Sony’s E3 keynote speech, you are probably feeling a little disappointed. The company announced some new PS1 classics such as Final Fantasy 7, but we didn’t see any indication on when the company plans to have their promised PS3 remote play streaming feature working.

The good news is that the first batch of new PS1 classics will be available for purchase on the PS Vita sometime this month. Two games that have already confirmed to be coming are Final Fantasy 7 and Tomb Raider. At the moment though, there still appears to be a lot of question marks regarding PS1 classics for existing games that Vita owners have purchased and of course when the company will finally roll out their long awaited remote play feature.

At the moment though, Sony didn’t say whether PS1 games that have already been bought on the store will work with the Vita. After teasing Killzone 3 on remote play at the Tokyo Game Show last year, there is still no sign of these features either. It would have been nice to be able to pick up a brand new PS3 game and be able to play it on the Vita via streaming.

We would hate to think that Sony are holding this feature back, purely and simply because they feel that they’ll lose money on Vita software in the long run. For example, if Sony were to provide remote play Vita streaming for Assassin’s Creed 3 on PS3, then who would still be willing to pick up Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation that has just been announced? Although Vita owners expect to see this functionality in the future, perhaps Sony has had a major u-turn and decided that free PS3 streaming isn’t a good business move.

If they do feel this way, then perhaps they should make it a PlayStation Plus feature only, that way they would get more subscribers to balance out potential Vita software losses. Obviously Sony may not be thinking about this idea, but it is worth contemplating this as a reality if you are wondering why Sony didn’t show any notable remote play features at their E3 keynote.

Did they just throw Final Fantasy 7 and Tomb Raider out there to keep Vita users sweet? Everybody wants to know what the score is regarding their remote play features that everyone bought the system for – at the moment, Sony are keeping us waiting. Let us know your thoughts on this one.

We are just hours away from Sony and Microsoft’s big E3 2012 keynote speeches, but we could of had perhaps one of Sony’s biggest bombshells leaked. Diablo III on console has been rumored for some time already, but imagine the prospect of the Blizzard MMORPG ending up an exclusive on the PS3 only.

Diablo 3 is already out on PC of course, but a console release is widely thought to be in development, despite Blizzard’s recent efforts to conceal the game. The whispers regarding a console version of the popular MMORPG franchise first started months ago when Blizzard’s community manager Bashiok revealed that the game would be coming to consoles.

With that in mind, you would have thought that a console release would involve the PS3, Xbox 360 and maybe even the Wii U as well. However, one new piece of information revealed today threatens to ‘potentially’ spill Sony’s big E3 shocker for E3 this year – with potentially being the key word.

A German retailer has listed a console version of the game, but for PS3 only – with no sign of an Xbox 360 version in sight, as noted by Kotaku. Obviously, this may just be an error on the retailer’s part, or we could be looking at a Sony bombshell on the scale of Gabe Newell appearing to unveil Portal 2 back in 2010.

Has Sony managed to land a major exclusive in Diablo 3 on the PS3 and leave Xbox 360 owners in a state of shock? It would be a massive coup for Sony if true, but then again perhaps we shouldn’t get too carried away if this does end up to be mistake by the retailer. With this listing appearing just before E3 though, it’s probably safe to assume that a console version definitely IS on the way in some capacity.

Diablo 3 as a PS3 console exclusive – what do you think of that one then folks? E3 is almost upon us so the answers will be revealed soon.

We had a feeling that the PS Vita was going to be a major player at this year’s E3 expo and some exciting rumors prior to the event seems to...

We had a feeling that the PS Vita was going to be a major player at this year’s E3 expo and some exciting rumors prior to the event seems to have confirmed this. We have a list of the number of games that may have been leaked to share with you now, one of which again mentions that Assassin’s Creed 3 will be getting a portable version as well.

It is no secret that the PS Vita has had a few painful months, with a drought of games and apps threatening to justify the purchases of millions of Vita owners who had picked up the system at full price at launch either in Asia last year, or February this year in the US and Europe.

Thankfully though, Sony looks to be giving their Vita the full support they promised at launch and we now have a series of new game release whispers to tell you about before Sony’s event kicks off on June 4th at 6pm Pacific Time. According to a NeoGaf forum poster, Assassin’s Creed 3 will be coming to the Vita on October 30 as Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. This is the same release date as the console versions and we’re hearing that it will be a ‘true AC experience’ and will be developed by Ubisoft Sofia. Interestingly, the main character may be a female assassin by the name of Aveline and the game is set to include an online multiplayer mode as well. Check the Neogaf link for much more details.

That is a pretty major leak for the PS Vita right? That’s not all we have though, as the Vita may be getting a version of Medal of Honor: Warfighter as well, if a French retailer reveal is to be believed. If true, it means that Vita owners will then have a choice of FPS shooters by EA and Activision once Call of Duty is out.

Where would we be without these precious retailer leaks? Over in Asia, popular seller Play-Asia has listed a game by the name of Metal Gear Solid, which isn’t thought to be related to the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Don’t forget that the HD collection doesn’t even include the first Metal Gear Solid game, so could Konami be giving their prized asset a release all on its own?

Last but not least, there one more massive game that could be heading to the Vita. We’ve potentially seen games from Konami, Ubisoft and EA that are on the way but, how about a game from Capcom? UK-based retailer Play has put up a listing for Resident Evil portable. If Capcom were to answer our dreams, this could be a remake of the original Resident Evil game on PS1, which would obviously be amazing news for Vita owners. In our opinion, the first game still hasn’t been topped and this could turn out to be the biggest seller on Vita out of all these games rumored.

So that is Assassin’s Creed 3, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and Medal of Honor: Warfighter, all potentially on the way for an announcement at E3. Which game is the most exciting for you? We love E3 week!

If you asked us when we thought the next Gears of War game was going to drop, we would have bet that it would coming on the next-generation Xbox console. That isn’t going to be happening though, as a new Gears of War game has just been announced and it will be coming to the Xbox 360.

E3 2012 hasn’t officially started yet, but announcements are flying in everywhere prior to the event and gaming fans over the world must be loving it. We thought Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2 was a pretty big pre-E3 announcement, but a new Gears of War game announced before Microsoft’s keynote surely takes that mantle away from Konami.

Details are very sparse at the moment as you can imagine, but the game will definitely be getting a full reveal at E3. The next Gears of War game will also be featured on the next issue of Game Informer and you can check out a taster of that cover in the image above.

What can we expect to see from Marcus Fenix and the boys this time around? There’s a lot of speculation that this game could be the start of a new three-part prequel that takes place before the events of the original Gears of War game. If that is the case then again it would have been a perfect fit as an Xbox ’720′ launch title, but Microsoft obviously feels that the Xbox 360 still has plenty of juice left in the tank for one more new Gears game.

Another big talking about has to be about the Unreal Engine 4 as well. Will this new Gears of War game be using the Unreal Engine 4 on the Xbox 360, or are Epic Games saving it until Microsoft releases their next console? It will be amazing if the new game does support the new engine, although having seen some of the examples of graphics quality so far from the Unreal Engine 4 – perhaps the Xbox 360 won’t be able to handle it. That’s why this new game on current gen comes as a bit of a shock to us, as you would have thought that Gears of War 4 combined with the Unreal Engine 4, on a next Xbox console would be a perfect launch game for Microsoft to sell millions of units.

What are your expectations from Gears of War 4 if that is to be the next game? Would you prefer to see a continuation from Gears of War 3, or do you like the idea of a prequel spin-off title instead to take the game in a completely different direction? Do you think the Unreal Engine 4 will be ready for this new Gears game or not?

E3 is almost upon us and we’re pleased to say that Konami has the honor of kicking off the festivities. Just like previous years, the company has announced that they are holding a pre-E3 event, and you’ll be able to tune into a stream this Friday and catch all of their pre-E3 announcements at the first opportunity.

If you head to Konami’s E3 website now, you’ll see that there’s some bizarre battle going right now on a PES football pitch between various Konami characters. However, on June 1st at 12am Pacific Time, the website will be providing a stream of what is in store to come during the company’s actual E3 keynote.

We fully expect to see the likes of Metal Gear Solid: Rising and PES 2013 at the event, while speculation appears to have confirmed that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be one of the main announcements as well. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is due to be released on Vita next month as well, so we’re guessing that Konami will be showing off some final gameplay of that to advertise the game a little bit before release.

What about the Zone of the Enders HD Collection as well? This has gone under the radar a bit while Konami focused on the Metal Gear Collection, so hopefully we’ll see some solid footage from this game as well. Other than that – Konami has the rest of the event to wow attendees and viewers with some brand new announcements.

Is it far too early to be thinking of Metal Gear Solid 5? A new Silent Hill game would be great to see as well. Konami seems to think that having a pre-E3 show will draw in a higher audience, so we just hope that they have some bombs to drop aside from the content that everyone is already expecting to see.

From our point of view, there’s probably a bit of added pressure since they now have the opportunity to drop the first massive announcements at E3 before Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo take to the stage. What are you expecting from Konami at E3?

There has obviously been a lot of supposed GTA V leaks over the last few months, but with just days to go until E3 2012 we are treating this latest one with a lot more attention. A GTA V blog site has apparently leaked the ENTIRE list of characters that will be involved in the game, including the main character.

As with previous rumors on the game, it goes without saying that you should read the following information with a pinch of salt as it hasn’t been confirmed by either Rockstar or Take Two yet. Also, the following information could be spoilers overload, so look away if you don’t want to know the plot or main characters.

According to the blog, the main character will be a man known as Chico Vialpando – a 20 year old who is successful in life and has no problem ‘getting all of the ladies’. It is when he is tempted to join a local street gang and is introduced to Tony Cipriani when things start to spiral out of control. Cipriani should be ringing your alarm bells immediately, as he’s one of the main characters in Grand Theft Auto III.

Also featured in the game is Leo Johnson who is the son of Carl Johnson, otherwise known as CJ from GTA: San Andreas. Leo and Chico are cousins and Leo is apparently all that is left of CJ’s legacy, prompting him to join street gangs as well.

All this sounds very believable and according to the source has come directly from a Take Two employee. You can read the rest of the details including a more in-depth storyline through the blog link here. Wow, what are your immediate thoughts on this new character Chico? Bringing Tony and CJ’s son back into the game is a brilliant idea and we have a feeling that this is going to be one of the best plots seen in a GTA game to date.

Just to remind you, this is still a rumor until confirmed by Rockstar at E3. It obviously looks very promising though and we’re starting to get excited ourselves.
