It has been over two weeks since E3 2011 ended, therefore people have had a chance to catch up with the long list of titles which showed up at the expo, now 35 publications have submitted their votes and we can reveal the E3 2011 Game Critic Award winners, games which done particularly well include BioShock Infinite, Battlefield 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Let’s start with BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games and 2K Games will be very happy with how well their title fared. Infinite won the honors for the best PC game, best original game, best action/adventure game and it also won the ‘Best of Show’ accolade. Just to note this title is coming to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and will be PlayStation Move compatible, it should arrive in Q2 2012.

Things are also looking promising for Battlefield 3, this won the best action game and the best online multiplayer awards, this is great news for EA and DICE and seems to suggest that BF3 is on track to be a real competitor to Modern Warfare 3 later this year.

Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also picked up two awards, one for being the best RPG at the show and another for being the best console game, we were impressed with the game’s screens from E3 2011 and we are excited to hear that it is said to be bigger and better than Oblivion, we wouldn’t be surprised if this also picks up some game of the year awards from critics.

One less well-known game at the expo which done very well was Sound Shapes which is coming to the PlayStation Vita, we must confess that we do not know a lot about this title, however you can see a video showing it off here. Sound Shapes is being developed by Queasy Games and has been voted the show’s best handheld game and the show’s best social/casual game.

We will now run through other games which picked up awards. Best Fighting Game = Street Fighter X Tekken, Best Racing Game = Forza 4, Best Sports Game = FIFA Soccer 12, Best Strategy Game = From Dust, Best Motion Simulation Game = The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and finally Best Downloadable Game = Bastion.

You can see all of the award winners here, also for more detailed information regarding the awards you should check out this link, one interesting statistic was that the 14 Xbox 360 titles won awards (more than any other platform), also the Nintendo Wii showed its age by winning no awards, perhaps it is a good thing that the Wii U was revealed. Finally the PlayStation Vita was regarded as the best new hardware at the show, we doubt that Nintendo will be happy with this.

Do you agree with the award winners?

Lots of people who have been checking out the latest news from E3 2011 have been keeping a close eye on EA Sports’ FIFA 12, roughly a month ago we excited readers by telling them that FIFA 12 uses a new and improved engine, now we are beginning to find out lots of cool info about the PES rival.

We have some fantastic news for those of you looking forward to picking up Street Fighter X Tekken now, as Capcom has unveiled the latest build of the game at E3 2011 and a collection of new gameplay videos for you to enjoy.

These new videos are especially as good too, as they include the first ever look at new characters Julia and Hwoarang from the Tekken side who were only previously teased in a few Capcom trailers recently.

In the Hwoarang video that we have to show you below, we see him teaming up with fellow newcomer Julia Chang to take on the team of Abel and Sagat, Sagat who has also been recently confirmed to the game. The game looks far more polished than it did all those months ago when we only saw a matchup between Ryu and Kazuya, wouldn’t you agree?

Capcom also confirmed at E3 that Street Fighter X Tekken will contain various stages from both franchises, not just Street Fighter and also hinted that a lot more characters are set to be revealed. You’ll be pleased to know that Hwoarang brings with him his trademark fighting style from the Tekken games, and some of his grab moves featured in the game are some of the moves he pulls off in Tekken too.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date for the game yet, but it’s expected at some point next year. Let us know your thoughts on Hwoarang and who you would like to see announced next. Charlie Nash perhaps?

On a side note, don’t forget to check out the first gameplay video of Cole from inFAMOUS on the PS Vita version of the game.

Just in case you are yet to see any of the stunning new gameplay for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at this year’s E3 event, we have some new video material for you to check out. In all honesty, the graphics featured in the upcoming game make Oblivion look like an ugly game, which is obviously far from fact.

Those of you who have played Oblivion the previous game, will know how breathtaking those visuals were the first time you step out of the prison at the start and see the moving world around you. Picture that, and then picture Skyrim looking even better because that’s the reality we’re faced with here.

To give you an idea of just how good the game looks, we have a new interview with Skyrim’s lead producer Craig Lafferty to show you now, which we’ve included below and is available to view in HD.

At the start of the video, you’ll see the new engine in full effect during some gameplay featuring the snow environment physics. The way the snow reacts definitely wasn’t as impressive in Oblivion, while you’ll see the animals featured in the game are much more realistic too – hopefully we’ve seen an end to those bland wolves and lions that always came after you in Oblivion.

The interview also reveals the important fact that Skyrim will feature a brand new user interface, one which has been designed specifically to make it more easier to navigate around. Lafferty states that the team worked hard to ensure that Skyrim won’t feature an over the top menu system that Oblivion did, instead it will be designed for you to focus on the game more, rather than having to spend 10 minutes setting up your equipment, potions, repairing weapons, dropping equipment and so on, like you did in Oblivion.

After having had a good look at how Skyrim is developing from a graphics perspective, are you surprised as well how fantastic the game looks compared to Oblivion?

In case you missed it during the E3 2011 frenzy, we have a reminder for you that developers Naughty Dog have announced a solid date for when the multiplayer beta for highly anticipated title Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will begin.

If you are interested in participating in the closed beta for Uncharted 3, you’ll need to know that the official date starts on June 28th. Details on how to get into this beta at the end of the month were not revealed by Naughty Dog during E3, but something else important was.

At E3, the developers announced an exclusive deal with Subway food chain, in which players in the US will be able to gain access to the multiplayer mode of Uncharted 3 a month early before the game releases, just by ordering food and drink from the stores.

Uncharted 3 isn’t due out until November 1st in the US, November 4th in the UK, but it’s understood that this Subway deal will allow gamers to preview multiplayer in October before the game is out – a full preview as well and not just a few maps and modes.

It sounds good, but we’re waiting for more information to come in as we speak. We’ll let you know when we have clear details on how to enter the beta. Let us know if you are interested, and we’ll come back with details for the June 28th beta.

UPDATE: Just to remind you, you’ll be able to enter the beta as long as you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber or if you pick up a copy of inFAMOUS 2 on the PS3. Since everyone now has access to PSN+ via the Welcome Back Package, we’re unsure at the moment if the terms have changed. We’ll let you know.

Aside from unveiling the brand new Wii U console at E3 2011, Nintendo also reserved a key portion of their press conference to inform the world of the current software plans for the 3DS handheld system. We have a list of new games to show you now, as well as a teaser trailer showing brand new gameplay.

Most of you are looking forward to the release of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D next week starting from June 19th, but after E3 there’s probably a lot of other 3DS games that you’re looking forward to.

Upcoming new games unveiled at E3 include Super Mario 3DS, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 3DS, Luigis Mansion 2, Star Fox 64 3D and Kid Icarus: Uprising. These are all developed by Nintendo of course, but there were far more titles on the way from third-party publishers.

These include Resident Evil Mercenaries (which you already knew about), Mario and Sonic at the 2012 Olympics, Ace Combat 3D, Tetris, Cave Story 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Driver Renegade, Pacman & Galaga Dimensions, Tekken 3D and finally Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D which you also already know is coming.

That is a pretty strong lineup of both first party and third party titles you would have to agree. The big question is though, will the Sony PS Vita be able to compete with this or does Nintendo have the upper hand? We’ll be studying this aspect in greater detail soon. Check out the trailer below and then let us know your thoughts the new games on the way for the 3DS.

Recently we suggested that Elder Scrolls V Skyrim could be a serious contender for this year’s game of the year 2011 accolade, now screenshots from E3 2011 have been posted on the official Elder Scrolls Facebook page, you will not be disappointed.

There are 9 screens in total (you can see the album here), we have embedded three of our favorites below if you check them out we’re sure that you will agree that Bethesda has made Skyrim look much much better than Oblivion.

The screens show us a close look at a dragon from Skyrim along with one of the game’s new and improved horses, also one nice touch is the bright blue eyes the enemy has in this image.

The moment that Nintendo unveiled the Nintendo Wii U to the world, we shortly gave you some initial information on what kind of specs it will possess. Since their conference has ended, we now have much more information for you now, as Nintendo has released a full tech specs sheet for the console.

The information released poses some very interesting questions about the capabilities of the new system, as Nintendo has yet to disclose exact information regarding the processor and graphics that will be utilized.

Instead they have preferred to give intensive information on the brand new Wii U controller, most of which we already told you about in our previous article. What we didn’t know is dimensions of the actual console unit itself, and Nintendo reveals it will come in at 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide and 10.5 inches long, as an accurate estimate.

One thing we didn’t mention though, is the fact that the Wii U will be backwards compatible with all existing Wii software and accessories, so that’s one less thing to worry about.

The Wii U will support full HD visuals if you didn’t already know. This means out resolutions of 1080p and 1080i, with connections including HDMI and AV Multi Out connector for audio and video. You’ll also get four USB 2.0 outputs and external memory of some sort as well, and the system will run on an IBM ‘multi-core’ processor as previously stated, but what type of processor it is hasn’t been revealed yet.

What are your thoughts on the additional tech specs of the Nintendo Wii U, have you already made up your mind whether to get one or not? Below is Nintendo’s tech specs chart, as detailed on their E3 press pack notes:

Size: Approximately 1.8 inches tall, 6.8 inches wide and 10.5 inches long.

New Controller: The new controller incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 touch screen and traditional button
controls, including two analog Circle Pads. This combination removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world. The rechargeable controller includes a Power button, Home button, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons. It includes a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope, rumble feature, camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus.

Other Controls: Up to four Wii Remote™ (or Wii Remote Plus) controllers can be connected at once. The new console supports all Wii ™ controllers and input devices, including the Nunchuk™ controller, Classic Controller™, Classic Controller Pro™ and Wii Balance Board™.

Media: A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs.

Video Output: Supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i. Compatible cables include HDMI, component, S-video and composite.

Audio Output: Uses AV Multi Out connector. Six-channel PCM linear output through HDMI.

Storage: The console will have internal flash memory, as well as the option to expand its memory using either an SD memory card or an external USB hard disk drive.

    CPU: IBM Power®-based multi-core microprocessor.

GPU: AMD Radeon™-based High Definition GPU.

Other: Four USB 2.0 connector slots are included. The new console is backward compatible with Wii games and Wii accessories.

Do you think these specs will appeal to the hardcore gamer, or is the fact that they haven’t disclosed detailed graphics and processor information a worrying sign?

Along with the E3 2011 Wii U console announcement, Nintendo also unveiled an impressive list of titles that were coming to the new system. We have a list of those game for you now, letting you see just what is worth getting excited over.

If you missed our initial report on specs and release date information, then head to our previous report here. We’re just going to focus on the software lineup on the Wii U for the moment, then talk about some specific titles in detail later on this week.

Without further ado, below is a list of titles that have been confirmed for the Nintendo Wii U so far:

Super Smash Bros
Lego City Stories
Tekken
Assassin’s Creed
Darksiders 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Ghost Recon Online
Dirt
Aliens Colonial Marines
Metro Last Light
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge

As you can see, the initial list of confirmed titles for the Wii U is very impressive, we wonder how many of these will actually end up becoming launch titles. As for the graphics, they are looking very slick indeed and definitely on par with what you see on the likes on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 today. There was a huge cheer in the audience for Batman; Arkham Asylum and Ninja Gaiden 3, so there is already a lot of love for Nintendo’s new system it seems.

What are your thoughts on the lineup so far, are you impressed or not? Expect rolling coverage on the Wii U throughout this week. Don’t forget to stay peeled to our growing Facebook page for the latest updates.

UPDATE: We’ve added a video from IGN below, showing Nintendo’s lineup video. Remember to select HD for the best quality, enjoy!

UPDATE 2: In a surprising turn of events, Nintendo has confirmed that the footage of the Wii U lineup titles were actually shot using Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics, not visuals from their upcoming console. Expect more from us on that soon.

Following on from the official announcement of the Nintendo Wii U, aka the Wii 2, we now have some fantastic news for Nintendo 3DS owners – you may know that...

Following on from the official announcement of the Nintendo Wii U, aka the Wii 2, we now have some fantastic news for Nintendo 3DS owners – you may know that a brand new Super Mario game has been designed for the 3D system, but we now have a release date update for when you can get your hands on it.

Reggie Fils-Aime took to the stage at E3 and proceeded to show off the very first footage of the game to the world. He reminds us that Super Mario for the 3DS is the very first 3D Mario game created from the ground up for a portable system, and then accompanying footage shows Mario in his trademark Racoon suit amongst others, making his way through a brand new universe.

The video also shows you how you can seemlessly walk in and out of 2D and 3D gameplay. Of course this will look 10x better when viewed on an actual 3DS, as Nintendo were obviously restricted to showing 2D gameplay only on the big screen.

As for a release date, Nintendo are still unwilling to commit to a solid date but for the first time, the company did confirm that the game will be due out before the end of the year. We have a feeling the date is going to be announced at the Tokyo Game Show, so stay tuned for that in September. Put it this way, at least you won’t have to wait until 2012 for it to land.

We’ve included the very first gameplay trailer for Super Mario 3DS below. Let us know your thoughts on this new Mario adventure.
