Carrying on from our last look at Driver: San Francisco, where we explained all of the features tied to the multiplayer aspect of the game, we now have a rather interesting video that shows us the ‘Shift’ mechanic in action along with some of the modes that we previously got excited about.

Now this may come as a shock to you, but on first impressions, the ‘shift’ mechanic that you can get in Driver: San Francisco seemed like a rather nicely added feature that could spice up online play. On the other hand, we had a little think and want to retract (in part) some of our premature impressions.

One of our gripes is that we don’t really see the point in been able to drive pretty well, only to be foiled by someone who has literally just jumped into a car next to you to take your hard earned glory away from you.

Gripes aside, it may just be one of those things you have to experience for yourself. For the moment though, we are branding it as Marmite. You’ll either love it, or hate it.

As for the video, the content on show does look promising. There are plenty of modes to keep you satisfied. You can either go back to classic mode (no car shift-swapping) if you prefer to prove you are the best driver of your friends and colleagues.

As we expected, the views are somewhat negative too. Many, such as this user are complaining that the game has taken the mechanic straight from BLUR, making this as unique as a generic mobile phone.

OMG what a FAIL.So game like Blur which emphasise on this ability’s and driving didn’t succeed now Ubisoft are going to make one of realistic IP and turn into BLUR ?

-Maximum Payne via VG247.

Others are being optimistic about the fun-factor though, and say that even though it does resemble BLUR, it still has a lot of nice things going for it.

Back in April we announced that Ubisoft had finally confirmed a US release date for the much-anticipated Driver: San Francisco game. We now have some more good news for Driver fans, as the publisher has just confirmed details for the European Collector’s Edition of Driver: San Francisco.

According to a recent drivinggamespro.com article by Martin Bigg, the special Collector’s Edition comes with a replica model of the 1970 Dodge Challenger, an original comic book, a map of San Francisco that contains all collectibles, and three legendary cars for multiplayer.

The 3 legendary cars include the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427, 1963 Aston Martin DB5 and the 1972 Lamborghini Miura. That’s not all you get either, as you also receive 4 single player challenges including Taxi, Russian Hills Racers, Mass Chase and Relay Race, which enables you to change cars between laps.

It’s not just European territories that will be getting the Collector’s Edition of the Driver: San Francisco game either, as it will also be available in both Middle East and Asian territories. The Collector’s Edition can be pre-ordered from Gameplay, GAME, Amazon.com, Play.com and HMV.

North American gamers can expect the game to arrive in stores on August 30th, while European gamers have to wait until September 2nd to get their hands on a copy. Do you think you will pre-order the Collector’s Edition?

We brought you an article a few days ago, announcing that Ubisoft had recently confirmed a US release date for the much-anticipated sandbox-style driving game, Driver: San Francisco. Now it appears that the developer/publisher has decided to go one further, by releasing a new gameplay trailer.

According to a recent article over at gamepur.com by Alex, the new gameplay video explains a little about the plot of the Driver: San Francisco game, as well as introduce us to all the characters that we can expect to see. This of course includes Tanner and Jericho, as well as a character called Jones.

As we mentioned in a previous article, the Driver: San Francisco game – which will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac – was originally meant to be released late last year, but the developer decided to delay the game’s launch due to the competitive market at Christmas time.

You can view the new gameplay trailer over at gamepur.com. There is also said to be a Nintendo Wii version in the works, although it’s believed that the Wii game will contain a different storyline to the other versions. Do you like what you see in the latest gameplay video?

Back in July last year we announced that the release date for the much-anticipated Driver: San Francisco game had unfortunately been delayed from November 2010, to sometime in the first quarter of 2011. However, it now looks like Driver fans have to wait until later this year.

According to a recent article by David Hinkle over on the joystiq.com website, Ubisoft has recently confirmed that the Driver: San Francisco game will be released in the United States on August 30th. The game will be available to purchase for the PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

There have also been reports that a Nintendo Wii version is in the works. The Driver: San Francisco game – which is said to be set a few months after the events of Driv3r – sees players once again taking on the role of Tanner, who finds himself with an unusual ability following an accident.

The unusual ability we are talking about is the ability to shift into the bodies of other drivers during the game. The Driver: San Francisco game not only provides gamers with a single-player mode, but it also comes with both split-screen multiplayer and online multiplayer modes.

Are you looking forward to the release of the Driver: San Francisco game?

Less than a week ago we reported that Ubisoft would release Driver: San Francisco on November 26th 2010, we are now hearing that the release has been delayed.

No accurate release date has been revealed, however we can confirm that we will have to wait until sometime during Q1 2011, which will no-doubt be frustrating for Driver fans.

The reason for the delay is related to the many popular releases expected around Christmas time, it is clear that Ubisoft feel that it will do much better in Q1 2010.

I am quite looking forward to the release of Driver: San Francisco, therefore slightly frustrated with this news, however I doubt it won’t be worth waiting for.

Only last month, we spread the news that one of the very few PlayStation original favorites was set to make a big come back. We were teased with a video, and now we finally have a release date penciled in, courtesy of GAME who are officially affiliated with the game.

HMV are the other corporation that are partnered with Driver: San Francisco, and both are already taking pre-orders for the collectors edition.

“Driver: San Fran sees you in the control of series regular John Tanner, who has fallen into a coma after an accident. Because of said coma, you gain a new ability for the game called “Shift”, which allows you to change between cars without going on foot.”

VG247 have been following the games progress significantly, and have covered a few separate stories ranging from a hands-on, to an interview with the creative director.

The game is scheduled to be released on November 26, and will come out on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and MAC platforms. A special Wii version is also on the way. Lucky you!

Are you looking forward to the return of Driver?
