DreamWorks Animation
DreamWorks Animation has announced that it’s converting exclusively to Intel for the supply of microprocessing equipment in the making of Animation movies.

This will replace the current supplier Advanced Micro Devices Inc., AMD signed a three-year deal back in 2005 and as this is coming to an end, DreamWorks Animation said it “requires more computing power”.

Starting in 2009, DreamWorks will be making all its movies in stereoscopic 3-D, this is one reason they have converted exclusively to Intel. Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive said, “we need the capabilities of Intel”.

DreamWorks say that Intel’s chips will help speed up production of movies and change the way animation artists work.

The three-year deal AMD signed was to provide processors to the Glendale studio; this is where movies such as the Shrek series and Kung Fu Panda were created.

Although an AMD spokesman said that the “opportunity will present itself again”, you cannot doubt that this is a blow to AMD.
