2011 was a year that saw many AAA titles land on home consoles. Of course we had the releases of Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, but RPG fans were also given a treat with the release of Dark Souls and the title that ended up G.O.T.Y – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

We want to talk a little about Dark Souls though as it was a game that many of you will agree one of the best to release last year. The game took many by surprise, not just because of its immense difficulty but also because it was a great game generally as well, so hats off to the guys at From Software and Namco Bandai for that.

This year, another highly anticipated RPG is on the way, and we’re not talking about Final Fantasy XIII-2. Dragon’s Dogma is slowly starting to gather quite a following, and its a game which Capcom is releasing this year as a brand new IP. Earlier this week we told you that customers who buy the game will be given a surprise preview of Resident Evil 6, which releases at the end of the year, but we believe that Dragon’s Dogma will be a must purchase for most of you anyway when it comes out in May.

If you haven’t been following Dragon’s Dogma at all, you’ll be pleased to hear that Capcom has just given the game a fairly big media unveil, with the release of a brand new story trailer which gives you an idea of how the game is shaping up. For a Capcom RPG, these are easily some of the best graphics we’ve seen so far from the developer so the game is definitely not going to be lacking in the graphics department.

Capcom has also revealed two of the many classes that are featured in the game, and these are the Strider and Fighter classes. You’ll find gameplay examples and details of both over on the Capcom Unity website – well worth a look.

After seeing the new footage for the game, you may feel like this is another game in the mould of Dragon Age and Skyrim with an open world environment, but we have a suspicious feeling that it could go on to be one of the surprise titles of the year, just like Dark Souls in 2011. Dark Souls was very much the surprise success of 2011, so do you think Capcom will be able to match that with Dragon’s Dogma? We would much rather see a new Breath of Fire game from Capcom, but Dragons Dogma is looking very promising indeed.

Earlier this week we spoke about some new gameplay footage for Resident Evil spinoff Operation Raccoon City, but now we’re pleased to say that we have some exciting news regarding Resident Evil 6. Capcom has just confirmed that there will be a demo for the upcoming horror shooter, but unfortunately it looks like timed-exclusive content is still firmly in the minds of some developers.

Resident Evil 6 is not due to land on consoles until the middle of November this year, but developers Capcom have just revealed that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to get their hands on a gameplay preview via a demo which will come included with the release of another anticipated Capcom game – Dragon’s Dogma.

Dragon’s Dogma is an action RPG type of game which was originally due to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 in March. Capcom has now revealed that the game has been delayed until May, but to make up for it a Resident Evil 6 demo code will be packaged along with the game.

Here’s where the timed-exclusive bit comes in though. It looks like Capcom has struck a deal with Microsoft to give Xbox 360 owners first dibs on the RE6 demo as they will be able to download the demo on July 3rd. Some 60 days later, the demo will then become available on PS3 on September 3, giving Xbox 360 owners a full two months to enjoy the demo before PS3 users.

We’re not really a fan of constant timed-exclusives, but clearly this is another sign of what the industry has become these days. Obviously there is the ongoing exclusive DLC for Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360, and also the recent news that Xbox 360 owners will also get some exclusive DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2 as well. Perhaps it’s a case of tit for tat though, as Xbox 360 users may see this as a little payback for Street Fighter X Tekken, a game that will come packed with exclusive characters on the PlayStation 3 version.

Either way, a Resident Evil 6 demo is coming so it is great news. Will you pick up Dragon’s Dogma solely for the demo, or are you interested in investing your money in Capcom’s brand new IP? Hopefully we’ll have some gameplay footage for you soon.
