“I wouldn’t say we won’t do a sequel, but we don’t have anything planned at this time” the developers at Retro Studios told Game Informer. The news is likely to break the hearts of many fans of Donkey Kong games as it has been a long and ongoing series which stretches back to the old school days of games consoles where all that you had were four buttons and a four way D-pad.

The developers say that they encountered difficulties while deciding on how to create the Country Returns game which came about when the expansion of a simultaneous multiplayer mode was added. Problems creating the slider camera to follow the characters were addressed and reportedly over two thousand animations had to be made for the character movements which were increased with the addition of the second character.

All we can reveal for now is that no word is being said about a sequel. The developers have had their say and it seems that for now there will be no word of another Donkey Kong game for a while, however this does not mean that we should rule out the possibilities in the future. We have no fear because we know that Donkey Kong is a classic game character that will never die. Do you think Donkey Kong will continue for generations to come?

According to Eurogamer.com’s Fred Dutton, COD: Black Ops absolutely smashed the sales for November accounting for more than 25% of all software retailing, the new Assassins Creed: Brotherhood also did rather well hitting a cool 2nd spot. A new comer that everyone loves jumped in at number 7 and I think it will continue to rise is Donkey Kong Country Returns, Nintendo have even dedicated their homepage to the great ape. I remember in my younger days me and my friends all being cramped around the TV playing the original DK Country, trying to defeat King K.Rool to get back the banana hoard.

Interestingly on the hardware side of things, Microsoft has grown considerably up 68% most probably due to the Kinect arriving on the scene. Interestingly the PS3 has dropped to the bottom of the big 4with sales down 25%. Obviously people are favoring the Kinect over the PS Move. The first review comes from Andy Robinson over at computerandvideogames.com. This reviewer describes the DKCR game as an unapologetically relentless, ruthlessly challenging game that has been designed with hardcore gamers in mind.

In fact, this reviewer even goes on to say that it’s a more impressive platform game than New Super Mario Bros. The next review is from Brett Elston over at gamesradar.com. This reviewer appears as equally impressed as the last, and has given Donkey Kong Country Returns 8 out of 10.

Donkey Kong Country Returns definitely makes players work hard at each level, and will no doubt tax even the most skilled gamers. The game will most certainly keep players interested, with every level having multiple ways to interact with the background and foreground.

The downside to this game however is the fact of it being so hard, and we’re not talking in a fun, challenging way either. The final review comes from Mike Anderiesz at guardian.co.uk, who also claims that the game is rather difficult to play.

The overall conclusion is that although the game isn’t perfect and may not catch the imagination of fans in the same way as the original did, it is colorful, creative and will most likely still have you playing way after Christmas. You can read the full reviews via the links above.

We have taken a look at various reviews for the game, but IGN’s review has caught our interest in particular, as they have scored it an ‘outstanding’ 9/10, but they make a very bold claim which will certainly get you interested, especially if you played all three DKC games on the SNES.

Here is what IGN’s Craig Harris had to say about the game:

”This is an incredibly challenging, old-school throwback that might not set the genre afire with innovation, but in my book, it’s better than the awesome game that inspired it. ”

The rest of their two-page review is full of compliments for the game, but can it really be better than the original Donkey Kong Country on the SNES? Personally speaking, that game is one of the greatest games of all time, not to mention it contains probably one of the best soundtracks in a video game period.

It is great to hear that Retro Studios’ DKCR title has not disappointed in picking up the pieces from famed developers Rare, but hearing that it could be even better than the original has certainly got us chomping at the bit to play this.

The popular phrase which has been around since, well, we don’t actually know. Some say it was popularized by the American Pie movie American Wedding, others say it actually originated in a song by Ice Cube called ‘Now I Gotta Wet’cha’.

But the fact of the matter is that Nintendo now want to trademark the phrase “in honor of” Donkey Kong Country Returns that hits stores on November 21 for the Nintendo Wii.

There only seems to be a slight problem tied with this though, as we stated, we are not sure if they even have the right to trademark the phrase as we don’t know its origination.

There are 12 screens in total, all of which can be seen here, we have embedded a couple of the screens at the end of the post, as you would expect from a Wii title the visuals aren’t amazing, but let’s face it Donkey Kong has always been about gameplay.

The last Donkey Kong game that was released for the Nintendo Wii was Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, this was a port from the GameCube version and proved to be pretty popular, therefore the December 3rd 2010 Donkey Kong Country Returns release date is highly anticipated by many Wii gamers.

Donkey Kong and his sidekick Diddy’s aim is to rescue the ever precious banana horde from a vast array of enemies.

To do this, you will use the favourable barrel cannons and mine carts together with the new feature that lets Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong play simultaneously, whether it be in co-op mode or not.

Diddy can also hop on Donkey’s back for those more challenging parts, whereas both have new abilities that can be activated by performing selective gestures using the Wii remote.

There are also new hidden treasures in each level, and a special side-game that players can optionally complete whilst playing the game. Those of you who are familiar with the previous games will remember the secret areas which were always a bonus, but now players can also find and spell out K-O-N-G for extra special prizes.

Donkey Kong Country Returns will be released in Europe on December 3, 2010 — just in time for a little bit of Christmas nostalgia.

The game has been given the title Donkey Kong Country Returns and will be a 2D platformer, with 3D visuals in the background. Basically think of everything you loved about the SNES version and imagine it with Wii graphics. The game has been scheduled for a release sometime in November.

We even had that catchy DK theme tune as well playing in the background. The level shown saw Donkey Kong pair up with Diddy for some co-op action at the same time – similar to New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii.

The game looks very impressive, and a must buy for fans of the original game on SNES. Consider me sold for this one. Check out the debut E3 trailer below and let us know your reaction to the news.
