It has recently been revealed that new downloadable-content is headed to Gears of War 3, this is called RAAMS’s Shadow and it will hit Xbox Live on December 13, initially you may be put off buy the 1200 Microsoft Point price, however this has to be one of the most packed DLC releases we have seen in a long time.

So what do you get for your money? Well to start with you get a new campaign experience which should last well over three hours, the plot is said to take place after the events of the original Gears of War game and we are told that you should expect new characters, some of which are “eerily familiar to the series”.

This DLC will also bring six new multiplayer characters, the Chocolate Weapon Set and 250 Gamerscore points for you to achieve, we don’t have a full breakdown of the achievements which you must aim for just yet, but we expect plenty of blood and guts along the way. The reaction on Twitter suggests that you may be able to play as RAAM in the DLC, we cannot confirm this just yet, but it sounds very likely.

Currently these are all the details we have for the DLC, but at least we know when it arrives, how much it will cost and exactly what it consists of – we are sure that as it gets closer to the launch date we will find out more about RAAM’s Shadow, perhaps we will get some trailers and screenshots – we hope so!

Will you buy RAAM’s shadow?

Now that Mortal Kombat gamers have had a chance to play as Skarlet they may be wondering when the next playable character will arrive, well we can now confirm that more MK9 DLC is headed to Xbox Live and PS3 next month and will bring Kenshi.

According to a recent post on GameInformer Kenshi will come to consoles on July 5th, Kenshi is a blind sword-wielding fighter who first hit the Mortal Kombat scene back in 2002 when Deadly Alliance arrived, he uses his sword and his telekinetic powers combined to make himself a very formidable addition to the MK9 roster.

We have embedded a video at the end of this post which shows Kenshi in action, the video also shows us glimpses of his fatalities, one at the end sees the opponent’s skull obliterated by the blunt of the sword, whilst another sees the enemy flung head-first into Kenshi’s sword, which is firmly planted into the ground.

We think that Kenshi will be a welcome addition to Mortal Kombat’s fighter offerings, we would imagine that it will cost 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live / $5 on PSN, we are also hearing that Rain should be arriving in future DLC. Seeing as how Skarlet arrive in June and Kenshi is coming in July we think that August is a safe bet for his arrival.

When Mortal Kombat 9 arrived there were 27 playable characters out-of-the-box for Xbox 360 and 28 for PS3 (as Sony’s console got Kratos as an exclusive), with Skarlet, Kenshi and Rain it will bring these numbers to 30 and 31 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively, do you think that more characters will be needed? If so, which characters would you bring to the game?

The Mortal Kombat Wikia list 64 characters which have featured in the Mortal Kombat games over the years, we think that MK9′s bosses (Goro, Kintaro and Shao Kahn) would be welcome additions to that game’s playable character list, previously our readers have stated that Motaro, Lord Shinnok, Frost and Havik should have appeared in the game, do you agree?

While we are on the subject we wonder what you think about Mortal Kombat DLC pricing, is $5 per character acceptable? Will you buy Kenshi? Let us know in the comments section below. Note: When we hear more about Rain’s arrival we will keep you posted.

People are still wondering when the PSN is coming back online, now we can confirm that the PSN down time has caused the Honest Hearts DLC for PS3 versions of Fallout: New Vegas to be postponed until the Playstation Network is up and running again.

Xbox 360 and PC gamers have been given a date of May 17 for the release of the DLC, however the ongoing PSN problems has caused a disruption to all upcoming downloadable content. This obviously means that PS3 gamers won’t be able to get their hands on the DLC until a later date.

There is some good news, Eurogamer say that Bethesda has said that the DLC will be available at the earliest point of the PSN coming back online, we don’t know when the PSN will be back up, but at least we know that when it is online the Honest Hearts DLC should be readily available.

The effect is widespread and is affecting pretty much all DLC which was scheduled for a May release date, this is resulting in massive financial implications for game developers and published etc. Just to rub salt in the wounds you can see the recently released Honest Hearts debut trailer via this post.

Would you have purchased the PS3 version of the Honest Hearts DLC on its release date? Does the PSN outage spoil the DLC’s hype? Let us know in the comments section below.

Online gaming as been in the news a lot lately with the problems still affecting the PlayStation Network. But the big thing over recent times with online gaming for all platforms has been downloadable content. Whether it’s on PSN, Xbox Live or the Wii DLC, what is the value vs price?

Lewis Lashley from Buzz Focus.com is looking at the value and price of DLC. Whatever your preferred platform we all enjoy playing games of different types, but unfortunately the game has to come to an end eventually. Then that’s where DLC packs come in and bring new life to our favorite games with extra maps or new characters.

But the price of some DLC packs has gone up with content going the other way. With Marvel vs. Capcom a DLC for two new characters was released as add on’s. But when the game was first released people buying the special edition got a code for these two characters. With all the add on’s with the DLC brought the price of the game to around $74.99.

Some games such as Naruto: Rise of Ninja gives users the chance to preview new characters before purchasing, so users need not purchase content they won’t like. But some games are being released with pre-determined plans to stretch out the length of sales, and will further hit the pocket of the gamer.

But this could mean more DLC content in the future as developers try and claim back losses they make with resales and the lending of games. That’s without even mentioning the threat of piracy and the losses suffered with that. What do you think will the average gamer be expected to hand over even larger amounts of cash?

Over the last couple of months there has been a lot of mystery surrounding the Arrival DLC for Mass Effect 2, last week we confirmed the DLC’s plot and release date, now we can confirm that it is available to purchase on Xbox Live.

You can add the Arrival to your Xbox 360′s download queue here, you need to have the full Mass Effect 2 game to play it and it costs 560 Microsoft Points (which equates to roughly $7.00). You shouldn’t have to wait too long for the content to download as it is 780MB in size, however the servers might be taking a pounding at the moment.

As we explained previously in the Arrival you must rescue a deep cover operative from the edges of the galaxy, throughout your quest you will discover the truth about Arrival.

This DLC is said to be the last lot of downloadable-content for Mass Effect 2 and will pave the way for Mass Effect 3, we have embedded the content’s teaser trailer below, this should help you decide whether or not to purchase it, surely it’s a must?

Have you download the Arrival DLC? If so did it take long to download? Are there any problems? Let us know in the comments section below.

BioWare still hasn’t announced the ‘Arrival’ DLC for Mass Effect 2, however recently they have been posting screenshots and hints on the official BioWare Facebook page, which must mean that an announcement is coming.

We first heard about the Arrival DLC late last month when an update for the PS3 version of the game leaked trophy details which mentioned the upcoming DLC, now BioWare are creating a buzz on their Facebook page.

Three screenshots have been posted in the last day or so, all of which feature comments from BioWare with the words “Arriving” and “Arrived”, which are obviously not-so subtle hints which we think confirm the Arrival DLC.

We have embedded all three screenshots at the end of this post, none of the screens give anything to substantial away, however we see what looks to be a countdown timer on one and then another shows the numbers “304942″, what does this mean?

Check out the screens for yourself and let us know whether you spot anything. What is the countdown timer for? What is the significance of “304942″? Let us know your theories in the comments section below.

The Guitar Hero franchise has developed and flourished greatly since the release of the original ‘Guitar Hero’, releasing titles which have expanded to drums, vocals and even DJ decks. Each series that has branched onto the current-gen consoles have all been bombarded with DLC to accompany the games’ already extensive tracklists.

Guitar Hero developers have stated recently that they will continue to release the DLC for Guitar Hero and DJ Hero games in the future even though Activision recently suggested that 2011 would not be a year where they would be concentrating on music games, apparently this decision has come about due to ‘continued support’ from the fans.

While this is good news for the fans of guitar hero titles, it seems like a wise move for the developers also. We recently posted about the new Nine Inch Nails track pack coming soon to Rock Band which will add to Rock Band’s already huge list of playable tracks. This continuation from Rock Band would have made their series more appealing to gamers if Guitar Hero would have discontinued DLC.

It would seem that our enjoyment of music games will continue to develop as Activision continue to create content for their fans, however we can not confirm any information about the next addition to the DLC at this moment in time. What music would you like to see added to Guitar Hero / DJ Hero?

Recently BioWare rolled out a new patch for the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2, in the process it looks as if they may have inadvertently leaked some information regarding some new downloadable-content which is headed to the game.

A BioWare forum thread here shows how someone installed the patch and then checked the game’s trophies, here he saw some new trophies which spoke about the Arrival downloadable-content.

One of the trophies called “Covert Action” requires you to “Rescue Dr. Amanda Kenson without attracting hostile attention”, you can see a screenshot showing this trophy below it clearly shows that this takes place when playing the games “Arrival” downloadable-content.

At the moment it looks like the Arrival DLC may just be coming to the PS3, however we cannot yet confirm this, perhaps it will be released on Xbox Live as well, we will have to keep you posted.

In late January BioWare launched the Recon Operations Pack and the N7 Complete Arsenal Bundle, both of which were exclusive to the PS3 and consisted of weaponry and armor, as the “Arrival” DLC sounds like an extra chapter for the game it would be surprising to hear that this is PS3 only.

Will you purchase the Arrival DLC if and when it arrives?

Some businesses have been known as “dog eat dog” for generations, with money being the main goal and what the user wants has come second to this, but that plan will fail for long term success, even in the gaming business. The video games industry has been recognized worldwide as a serious business, in terms of overall turnover, but are we starting to see the need for publishers and developers making more money, start to over cloud what gamers really love.

Call of Duty: Black Ops followed up with DLC and most gamers want the maps, but do the users get what they really want, or is the money making put before the gamer experience. We have seen deals struck with one Brand – Microsoft’s Xbox 360 – and then letting Sony’s PS3 wait longer for the same DLC, did money have a part to play in this?

Are certain features being left out of games thanks to the timeline needed in making them, is there a rush to get the next game done as soon as possible, even before its up to standard?

The upcoming Crysis 2 has seen some leaks in the last week, which has shown some DLC and maps are being planned already, if the leaks are to be believed. Ripten even claims that DLC could come just one month after release, is this too soon?

The gamer buys the disc for a fair price, should their pockets be milked so soon after games get released? Let us know your thoughts, its our view that while every business has to make money, the need for making money is starting to affect the finished product. We have seen a higher rate of bugs in games so soon after the release date, which leads us to believe there is pressure to get the game in stores too fast.

If we see a lot of bugs in a game after release, should there be free DLC to compensate for this?

Two days ago we posted an article showing you the official Battlefield 3 trailer, now we have details regarding a recently revealed Limited Edition versions of game, this will come with more maps than other version of the game.

We can now confirm that the limited edition version comes with the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand DLC pack, this contains 4 maps from Battlefield 2. Not only this, but if you couldn’t get enough of what the previous title had to offer, the pack has also been equipped with classic weaponry and vehicles from Battlefield 2.

As mentioned in the previous post, the new DLC will run under the new Frostbite 2.0 game engine which means that the maps contained in the DLC pack will be given a make-over to enhance the atmosphere, also the Back to Karkand DLC is rumoured to contain specific achievements/trophies for gamers to aim for.

While we can not confirm an official release date for the DLC, we can say that the content will be available on PSN/Xbox Live for download approximately one month after the release of Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3 will be available from stores Fall 2011, will you buy the Battlefield 3: Limited Edition for the free DLC?
