Canon Powershot SD870 IS Digital Camera

August 6, 2008 by Alan

Introducing the new Canon PowerShot SD870 which comes with great features such as a large 3-inch LCD screen and an extra wide zoom – perfect for taking great pictures.

This new camera has great features which are similar to the other two models in the series, the PowerShot SD950 IS and the PowerShot SD850 IS. All feature a very useful exposure system that groups key controls into an easy-to-read, user-friendly screen.

Also contained on all three of these cameras is a new four-way thumb button that when touched, it displays an animated replica for the button on the LCD screen. This virtual button is a useful feature which can be manually switched off in the setup menus.

The outer casing of the SD870 is made out of a combination of metal and plastic and with its plastic buttons; it does not look as rugged as the other two models. Still though, unless you are going to be taking some pictures in extreme environments, it will still hold up great after getting weary.

When it comes to picture quality, the SD870 produces photos on par with the SD950 IS and the SD850 IS. The huge LCD screen is a great benefit here when taking outdoor scenery shots, especially with a LCD brightness setting which you can alter when in dark places.

With a price tag of $350, the SD870 may seem like a little bit pricey for some, but with its large LCD screen, extra wide lens and variety of photo features, it may do enough to attract some of you out there.

Fujifilm Z200fd: Skinny compact digital camera

August 4, 2008 by Alan

Fujifilm have announced a new, slim, feature packed camera, the Z200 in the US. The camera uses Couple and Group timer modes that will make use of Fujifilm’s face-detection technology.

These Couple and Group timer modes just show how advanced these cameras are becoming these days as both serve as primary functions for the camera. The Couple timer will take a picture when it detects two faces getting closer together and has three settings for the distance between faces, meanwhile the Group timer will delay taking a picture until it detects the correct number of faces in the frame, pretty cool if you ask me.

Customers who are intrigued by this camera will have to wait until September to get their hands on one, and it will price around $299.95. The good news is that you will be able to choose from a variety of colours: Black, Red, Pink and Silver.

Here is a summary of the Z200’s features:

- Ultra slim (19.8mm thick) styling with two-tone all metal body

- 5x optical zoom lens (33-165mm equivalent)

- Dual Image Stabilisation

- Face Detection Technology and automatic intelligent red-eye removal

- 52MB internal memory plus xD-Picture card, SD and SDHC compatibility

- ISO 100-1600 sensitivity at full resolution

- Wide view 2.7-inch high resolution screen

- Playback features including Face Zoom and Micro Thumbnail (100 shot) view

- IR Communication (IR simple™)

- Blog mode and Auction mode

- VGA movie capture of 30 frames per second with sound

- New modes including Folder Select (categorise your photos using handy preset folders) and Illustration Mode.

- PictBridge™ compatible for direct printing without a PC

Once upon a time a cell phone was used just for making calls, but that would not cut it in our ever demanding world of gadgets. When people choose a cell phone these days they want it with all the latest features, and the top gadgets has to be the built-in camera. Many phones on the market have at least a 2 or 3 megapixel camera; some might even stretch to a 5 megapixel. Well now the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot, takes it one step further by introducing an 8 megapixel camera.

The camera on this phone is truly amazing, it even comes with face detection, geo-tagging, smart contrast as well as Xenon and photo flash. The specs on the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot will put many compact cameras to shame, and you have to ask if these new phones with improved camera technology will make the digital compact camera extinct?

Ok so what else does the C905 have to offer? Well firstly the phone has a 2.4 inch QVGA TFT display, this has a scratch resistant mineral glass cover and viewfinder, perfect for the life that we live today. The guys over at Phones Review, also tell at the the handsets also comes with an accelerometer bringing full screen rotation, GPS, and guess what, it also has WiFi. Having all of these features does come at a price to the Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot, the cell phone is a little on the thick side at 18mm, but come on look at the camera you are getting.

I have never been a fan of the Sony Ericsson’s, but having an 8MP camera in one might be enough to change my mind along with thousands of others.

Devotec Industries are proud to announce their smallest and lightest charger yet! Weighing in at a slim 80g and measuring about the same as a 1st gen Ipod Nano, the new solar charger still packs enough energy in its 1800mAh Lith-ion battery to charge a phone/blackberry/mp3 player 2 times or more before needing to be re-charged. And when the Solar Charger does need to be toped up, you can charge the device via its solar panel, or use either the supplied AC adapter or USB cable.

Retailing at a fantastic £19.99, ($40) this fully featured pack has a higher spec and more connectivity than solar chargers costing twice as much. And for added convenience, the Devotec USB Travel Plug can be added to the pack, giving access to charge the unit in over 180 countries!

Connectivity comes courtesy of the included adapters, with tips for Nokia (old and new), Motorola/Blackberry/mini USB, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, PSP/Digital Cameras and Ipod all being part of the package.

Lasting up to 3 months on a single charge, the Devotec Solar Charger has been extensively tested and re-engineered to include all the necessary accessories straight out of the box, including a stylish pouch to keep the solar panel scratch free when not in use.

The Devotec Solar Charger is a great way to keep safe and not have to worry about your phone or Blackberry losing battery when you are away from home.

Alex Devoto, founder and MD, said: “We are really excited about this release. After working to perfect this concept for three years, we feel we have a finely tuned product ready to meet the needs of the mobile consumer, with the widest selection of compatibility at an unrivalled price-point.”
