Over the years we have seen new carmakers try to come up with their own vehicles, only for them to look like Frankenstein’s Monster because of how they have borrowed from other cars, which we have seen a lot with some of the latest Chinese vehicles. The new VL Destino has done the very same thing, although the outcome is far better than what you or I would have imaged.

The VL Destino is on show at the Detroit Auto Show and you’ll notice that it’s almost 90 percent Fisker Karma, which isn’t a bad thing considering how popular that car is. The vision of this car is a pretty simple one, by taking the beauty of the Karma and then making a few changes in order to make it far more powerful.

What this means is that the hybrid powertrain has been removed in order to offer the car something with a little more power – well a lot we hope. While the actual VL Destino performance figures are currently not shared, we do know it will have a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine taken from a Corvette ZR1, which will produce a staggering 639 horsepower.

As you would imagine a few changes will need to be made to the brakes, suspension and chassis in order to control that extra power. The eagle-eyed fan will also notice from the video below that a few design changes have been made to the front and rear end, as well as minor changes to the roof.

The company will have to get the pricing right, because if they get it wrong then consumers might rather choose the Fisker Karma or even the Corvette ZR1, who as we know is the engine donor.

While we did not feature the Acura NSX Concept in our favorite concepts cars at Detroit this year we have to ask ourselves why not, as this looks like a truly stunning car? However, we know that the design of the car will change a lot until it makes it into production, unlike our previous choices, which are very near their final production models.

The reason for this is because the production of the new Acura NSX car is still at least two years away, but we like what we see so far. The exterior of the car could change and that’s fine, but we wonder if you are happy with the Acura NSX Concept interior because it’s been reported that it could change significantly compared to what’s on show at Detriot.

Looking at the image above the design of the Acura NSX interior does look rather sexy and while it is more than likely to change by the time the vehicle enters the production stage, Acura do say that it will be a space where the driver will feel at one with the technology that surrounds him or her.

This means that the new vehicle will come packed with all the latest tech, but we have seen with previous statements made about concepts that this rarely happens, we just hope that this is not one of those moments. From the other images seen here you can see that the interior is maroon in color and that it wraps around the driver, let’s just hope that the design of the Acura NSX Concept doesn’t change too much.

If you were to ask those who visit the Detroit Auto Show what car has stood out for them you’re certain to get a mixed reaction. However, we bet that a huge percentage will tell you that the German car manufactures are on top of their game this year, which is evident when you look at the best of the bunch, the 2014 Audi RS7 and the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.

The RS and M badges on their respective brands will tell you that there is not only a vast amount of power under the hood but also handling to match. While we love America muscle cars, these are often unrefined beasts that cower when approacing a series of corners, unlike their European counterparts, although we can’t help but fall in love with the C7 Corvette Stingray.

The Audi RS7 Sportback is a direct competitor to the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, along with the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG 4-Matic. However, in the past Mercedes always seems to struggle in the handling department when compared to their German rivals. Both the Audi and BMW are evenly matched so it will come down to two key features, price and street appeal.

Which of the two gets your vote? The Audi RS7 is said to have a top speed of 189.5 mph (305 km/h) and a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 3.9 seconds. The BMW M6 has a top speed of pretty much the same but a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.2 seconds. View the videos below of both these cars, which looks at the most important features of each.

The Montreal International Auto Show and the Detroit Auto Show clash each year and some car manufacturers have to choose between the two because of limited resources for upcoming vehicles. However, there were no such issues with the 2014 Acura MDX Prototype SUV and the 2014 Acura RLX sport sedan because both vehicles were at each event.

Both vehicles are aimed at the luxury segment and Acura has gone to great lengths in order to give these vehicles the best of everything – well taking budget and practically into account. While the full specs for the 2014 Acura MDX and RLX are still limited at this stage, there’s more than enough detailed in this preview to get potential customers interested, which you’ll see for yourself in the video below, which also includes the NSX.

The 2014 MDX will appeal to those who want an SUV with a strong, low and wide stance while still holding onto that all-important premium look. The front of any vehicle is always important but more so on an SUV because of the amount of space it takes up, so you’ll be pleased to know that the grille lines up beautifully with those LED headlights.

Like the MDX, the 2014 Acura RLX has also had a redesign (although it looks pretty similar to the current models) and again the front-end does have a completely new look. However, the sedan doesn’t seem to have that curb-appeal like the larger SUV does. However, once you take a look at all the technology packed inside, which is there not only for your comfort but safety as well, then you have to think more about what’s underneath rather than just what’s on the outside. It’s clear to see that these vehicles will not win any awards for how they look, not when you compare them to these concept cars that are on show at Detroit.

Ford know that if they want to counter the attack that GM are soon to afflict on them with their range of new pickups showcased during the Detroit Auto Show, then they will need to deliver something very special. Thankfully the Atlas Concept could be it as this is expected to be what the next-generation Ford F-150 could look like, which is looking pretty likely to be the 2015 Ford F-150.

There are number of key design features that could help the Ford F-150 make that all-important step to be the ultimate pickup once again, and features such as that advancement with its tailgate step to allow for improved cargo options could prove very positive to the consumer.

Over the years the pickup was a symbol that Americans did not care about how much fuel these huge vehicles consumed, but all that has changed since car manufactures are now being forced to make these pickups more fuel-efficient because of the cost of gas and also the fact that there is far less disposable income. Ford’s solution is to not only improve engine technology but also improve aerodynamics in order to reduce drag, which we know is a huge factor in maintaining fuel-efficiency.

That’s not the only feature to help reduce drag; the front spoiler will also lower the faster you go, and in order to give you greater ground clearance for going off-road will raise up when driving at lower speeds. In a recent article it has been reported that the reason Ford need to make changes is because the GM RAM has been named 2013 North American Truck of the Year, and also the fact that General Motors has recently been showing off their new 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra.

Will the F-150 ever get to the top again and if so what changes does Ford need to make in order to achieve this?

One of the most popular cars at the Detroit Auto Show this year looks to be the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Stingray and there are two reasons why, the love affair we seem to have with this iconic car and also how sexy it looks from the outside. We’ve all seen videos of how awesome the exterior looks, but we have yet to see the interior closely, or more specifically the reconfigurable instrument cluster.

Autoblog thought that they would give it a few days before they headed back over to see the C7 Corvette Stingray because there were less people flocking around it, and they were right. This was certainly a good move because it gave them the chance to take a closer look inside, which you can see in the video embedded below.

The instrument cluster has an 8-inch high-resolution screen and comes with three different modes and the display model at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show cycles through each of these modes to show us what we can expect in the production models. The first is Sport Mode and has various displays to show you what you need to know, such as how many Gs you are pulling around corners.

There is also Touring and Race Mode, which has us most excited because it is modeled on the C6 racecar. While we love this new instrument cluster it all seems a little gimmicky and one thing is for sure, we do hope that Chevrolet change that steering wheel because it cheapens what they are trying to achieve with the C7. If the C7 was not to your liking, then maybe some of these concept cars were?

The 2013 Detroit Auto Show is well underway and while we love to see what new vehicles will make their debut at the event, such as these ones, what we look forward to most are those desired concept cars. As in previous years these cars that are still in the conception process are always a big hit with the media and public alike, and this year is no different.

Choosing what we believe to be the most desired concept cars at 2013 Detroit Auto Show this year is a pretty daunting task because a majority of them do fall into that category. However, we believe we have come up with the definitive choice, just hope you are all in agreement, if not then feel free to share your thoughts below.

First on out list has to be the Lincoln MKC Concept because we just love what Ford has done with trying to bring the Lincoln brand back from obscurity. They have done a pretty decent job up until now with the MKZ, but looking at the MKC it could take the Lincoln brand to the next level. You’ll see from the first video below that Ford is taking advantage of the crossover market with a car that is based on the Escape.

Next is the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept, which gives us an insight in what Hyundai believes the sedan will look like in the future. Many of the elements of this car will feature in their upcoming sedan, but we cannot wait to see a version of this vehicle as seen in the second video below.

Our final choice is the 2013 Corolla Furia Concept because it shows that Toyota has learned from the past and now knows that they have to be less conservative. This model could actually be the next Corolla, although because many of the features have been overstyled we do expect Toyota to tone it down just a little. But not too much we hope.

These are our top three most desired concept cars at 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but what are yours?

It’s day one for the Detroit Auto Show 2013 and today we get to see a host of new cars, which will see their first world debuts from some of the biggest car manufacturers in the world. You don’t have to head down to the event to see what new models and concept vehicles will be on show because there’s going to be a great deal of coverage on websites and also YouTube.

While the Auto Show opened its doors today, like CES certain individuals were treated to sneak peaks of some of these new models before the show got underway. A fine example of this is the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray, which you can see looks totally stunning in the video below.

Having said that we can’t help love the BMW Concept 4-series Coupe with its sexy sleek looks, which is said to take over the old 3-Series and become the new 4-Series. Again you can see this concept in all its glory below.

There are two new models that stand out to us and that would be the 2013 Mini John Cooper Works Paceman and the Lexus 2014 IS Sedan. This is another oversized version of the much-loved Mini and is based on the Countryman model, although it has a much sportier look. In the past Lexus has been guilty of being lazy in the design department, but no one will be able to say that about the Lexus 2014 IS Sedan. Some large cars will often be overlooked in the street, but we are sure that onlookers will find it hard to take their eyes of this upcoming model.

This is just a little teaser of what we feel will draw huge crowds at the Detroit Auto Show over the coming days, so keep coming back when we’ll be taking a closer look at some of our favorite models.

As the Los Angeles Auto Show draws to an end we now have a few weeks rest during the Holiday Season before the next big car show, and that’s the NAIAS. There is a huge choice of new vehicles coming to the event, and one such model that has gained our interest is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which will be debuting at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but will not hit dealers until the end of the first quarter of next year.

Over the years the Jeep Grand Cherokee has seen a number of improvements, but what interests us the most is the advancements to its diesel engine. For years these SUVs have not only been noisy but were not as fuel-efficient as we would have liked, but it shows that with some applied technology there’s no need to rush out and get a less than practical electric vehicle just yet.

It’s been reported that the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee will come with the same 3.0L diesel engine that has proved a success over in Europe, and because US drivers are far more conscious about fuel economy and engine noise we’re certain that they will embrace this new model as well. Jeep knows that they have a tough job ahead of them to keep the public interested in Sports Utility Vehicles because there’s that stigma that they have gas guzzling engines, because not only do they have to still offer the kind of experience that previous owners know and love about the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but also make drivers aware that they are far more fuel-efficient then they have been in the past.

Don’t worry that the smaller 3.0-liter diesel V6 oil burner will lack power because it will still produce a decent 237 horsepower, as well as an impressive 407 pound-feet of torque. However, it has some tough competition with the 2013 Range Rover, although the $83,500 could be enough to put a few buyers off and persuade them to choose an alternative, and we’re sure that the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee price will be the vehicle to benefit.

As most of you will already be aware, one of the biggest auto shows in the 2011 calendar has already taken place and that was the Detroit Auto Show. At the event, we gave you a round up of some of the best electric cars of 2011 which you can check out again if you missed it.

As for the rest of the year, there will be plenty of shows to choose from, depending on if you live in the US or Europe and other parts of the world. One auto show which you may want to pay particular interest to is the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, which will be taking place between September 15th and September 25th. Another date which you’ll want to mark down in your diaries is April 22nd, as that is the start of the New York Auto Show – another event where’ll be able to see the most glamorous models from manufacturers on display.
