Now that the Dell XPS 15z has been officially announced we thought we would talk about how comparable it is to the MacBook Pro. We mentioned yesterday that some people thought that it would be a contender for the Air, but there is no 15-inch model – so two different markets. One area where the new Dell laptop is nothing like the Pro is in the price.

We already know that the price of the Dell XPS 15z will start at $999 for the base model, but if you want the Core i5 model you will have to part with be $1399 or $1699 to upgrade that to the i7 CPU. You do not have to be a genius to know that the Pro equivalent will cost at least a few hundred dollars more.

There may be a few hardware similarities between the XPS 15z and the MacBook Pro, but that is where it ends. Yes they have tried to go for the same design, but Dell lacks far behind Apple when it comes to attention to detail. We had expected the XPS 15z to be both thin and light, but we have been let down; the Pro looks to be slightly thinner.

You have to wonder how you can compare the two devices, as the base 15-inch model is so much cheaper than the Pro, and it shows in the hardware. However, when you start to get a little inventive with the upgrades you start to get something a little more comparable, but it will never be as good as the Pro.

Do you think that the Dell XPS 15z is more comparable to the Pro than it is the MacBook Air?

There has been quite a bit of speculation about the range of Dell laptops being made ready for release. Now today we have the news that Dells XPS 15z MacBook rival could be available from tomorrow following a leak.

Electronista has an article reporting that the new device will also be priced at $999. It was reported before the new laptop is promising to be the thinnest available of its size, and the design is now thought to be mirroring the 15-inch MacBook Pro, but some think it could go up against the MacBook Air. It has similar speaker grilles with an aluminum frame and black bezel.

The new laptop is also thought to be powered by Core i5 and i7 processors. Dell have been having a tougher time in the home PC market recently, but is now looking to turn this around with the development of more advanced devices.

The company has recently been left behind when it comes with research, with only 1.1 percent of revenue spent compared to 3 percent of Apple’s. Dell had previously thought tablets wouldn’t catch on according CEO Michael Dell.

Do you like the look of the new Dell laptop?
