A few days ago we informed you that a new piece of Dell hardware was on the way, one which would be similar to the Dell Venue Pro, but would be running Android OS instead of Windows Phone 7.

As Engadget reports, it looks like that unit is now starting to appear in the limelight, as the device has just appeared on the FCC website.

Interestingly, it is being called the Dell Venue, and is thought to be the same unit which had the prototype name ‘Thunder’ a few months ago. The device will feature the same 4.1-inch AMOLED display seen on the Venue Pro, but the Android version will come with a full touchscreen display, rather than the portrait slide-out QWERTY seen on the Venue Pro.

We’re not sure what Android OS the Venue will be rocking, but it’s probably safe to assume that it will be Froyo and not Eclair. Will we see it before the end of 2010 though? – Hopefully.

Let us know your thoughts on this. There is an early review and video of the Dell Thunder here.

The Dell Streak has only just been released, but we have a full preview of Dell’s next big smartphone set to hit the market. It is called the Dell Thunder and Engadget has managed to obtain a couple of prototype devices before release.

Over on their website, they have given us an early review of the device, since it is not expected to release until sometime next year. As with the Dell Streak, the Thunder is another Android device, and is set to ship with Android 2.1, although this could be upgraded to 2.2 closer to release.

Engadget has given us detailed information on the hardware, the 4.1-inch display screen, software and performance. For those of you who don’t want to read the whole thing, they have also included a great video, giving you a recap of key features for the Thunder, in around 3 minutes of footage.

It may be a while until we hear any sort of official information on the Dell Thunder, so this detailed preview by Engadget is the best you’re going to get at the moment.

Any of you interested in this handset or not?

A few days ago we finally heard details regarding AT&T’s pricing and release date for the Dell Streak, now we have come across a prototype of another Dell smartphone called the Thunder.

We first talked about the Dell Thunder back in April this year, now a few months on it seems as if the impressive smartphone is coming together, this is evident if you check out the video embedded at the end of this post.

The rumored specs are very impressive, obviously when the Thunder is released it may differ slightly, however we are reliably informed to expect a 4.1 inch OLED display supporting a resolution of 800 x 480, an 8 megapixel camera, a removable 1,400mAh battery, Android 2.1 Eclair and Dell’s customer user interface.

Other details are currently unknown, however in the video a Q4 2010 release is mentioned and by the looks of things the Thunder could become a real competitor in the smartphone market.

As we find out more we will have to keep you posted, for more information check out the source link below.

This morning we mentioned that Dell leaked out information on a number of new handsets, such as the Lightning and Flash. Another one of those handsets is the Thunder; this model will not run on Windows 7 – instead Android 2.1, although as it is not due out until the end of the year, Dell could update this to Android 2.2.

Dell Thunder is a great choice for those who prefer the Google OS. There are a number of cool features for this new handset, such as a web video Hulu app, although details are very limited on this. If you like to view videos, then you will love the 4.1-inch OLED touchscreen display with its WVGA resolution.

Engadget reports that the spec sheet is impressive, Snapdragon processor, 8-megapixel camera and HSDPA connectivity. AT&T should get the smartphone by the end of the year, as with the lightning, there will be an LTE model by late 2011.

Will Dell be another big player in the cell phone market?
