Dell recently pushed out a new press release which talks about their device launch plans, as you would expect they have a lot of PCs and notebooks planned, however I was most excited to hear that a 10-inch Windows 7-based tablet is forthcoming. You can read the entire press release on Engadget.

Apart from the 10-inch display, technical specifications are currently unknown, all we know is that it will be aimed towards business users and IT organizations, it will combine the mobility of a regular tablet whilst being able to integrate into a secure, controlled computer infrastructure thanks to its Windows 7 OS.

Previous Windows 7 tablets have been pretty unimpressive as hardware requirements are high and the Operating system is not tablet-centric, however chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Intel, AMD, Texas Instruments and Nvidia making serious advances with mobile processors which may mean we could soon see Windows 7 tablets which are thin, boast a long battery life and keep pretty cool.

As mentioned above Windows 7 is not designed primarily for tablets, this means that developers have to skin the OS to make it finger friendly, now that Windows 7 has been out for 16 months software experts have had time to develop, test and refine their own user interfaces and apps, this could mean that Windows 7 tablets will compete with their Android and iOS counterparts.

All this pulled together could well mean that Dell’s 10-inch business-ready Windows 7 tablet could be thin, powerful, intuitive, economical and secure, this will undoubtedly attract interest from network administrators who want tablets which can easily integrate into their existing networks, what do you think?

If you are a Dell Streak owner, prepared to get excited because we have details on how you can download a new Android 2.2 Froyo ROM on your device. It isn’t an official beta build, but appears to be working fine according to others who have tried it.

As reported from Android Community, a full tutorial giving instructions on how to download has been posted over at the Android @MoDaCo forums, courtesy of user Steven Hyde.

He has managed to get a new beta build of Froyo up and running on the device, but you’ll need to upgrade your baseband first if you want to try it out. This task may seem too much for the average Streak user, but for those who are unhappy with Android 1.6 or 2.1 on the device should really try this out.

The download links and instructions are over at the forum. Let us know how you get on and if it worked fine for you, so our other readers can give it a shot.

We have some more details on that new 7-inch tablet device that Dell boss Michael Dell showed off at Oracle Open World recently. We now know the device is actually the Dell Looking Glass rather than a bigger version of the Streak, but we still don’t know when its out.

As reported from Engadget, a video has been obtained and shows the Dell chief unveiling the Looking Glass to the audience. Yesterday we only had pictures of it, so the video reveal is an extra bonus for you.

From the video, Engadget reports that the volume rocker will be located on the top side of the device, and a headphone jack can be seen on the left-hand side of the device.

Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you more details on the 7-inch Looking Glass soon, but for now you’ll just have to enjoy this video and wait for further news on it.

Does their upcoming tablet interest you?

We have some exciting news for those of you who liked the look of the Dell Streak tablet, as it has just been confirmed that a 7-inch version of the device is coming soon after Michael Dell unveiled it himself.

As reported from Engadget, the boss of Dell took to the stage at the Oracle Openworld event in San Francisco and took with him a 7-inch version of the Android tablet device.

Sadly, he didn’t go into details on the bigger version, but we do have a picture of the device to show you below. As for the original 5-inch Dell Streak, Michael Dell confirmed that the tablet would be releasing in Best Buy stores across the US sometime in October.

Take a look at the pic below courtesy of Reuters, and let us know your thoughts on a 7-inch Dell Streak.
