We have some important news now for those of you that play Sony Online Entertainment’s hugely popular MMORPG DC Universe Online, as we’ve just discovered that the fourth major PC / PS3 update has now gone live. Not only does the latest update contain a massive amount of improvements and fixes, it also provides players with a number of new features.

The latest update provides players with a brand new raid, which according to Scott Grill over at examiner.com has both Superman and Lex Luthor working together in order to defend the Fortress of Solitude. In addition, the update also contains a new 16-player PvP map set in Superman’s home away from home, as well as a new four-player Batcave alert.

Players will also notice that the Mission Journal has been revamped, making it easier to find and keep track of both available and completed missions, and gamepad navigation hints will now be present in the UI. One issue that has now been resolved is the one where a player would fall through the object they wee standing on when they were knocked out.

The update has also made it so that players will no longer be able to move / damage the Teleporter to Kahndaq. Male emblems and female emblems have now been renamed to Mars Emblem and Venus Emblem respectively. It’s also fixed the issue where specific inventory slots would not function correctly when using a controller.

Hive Turrets outside of the Metrodome will no longer be able to be moved, players should no longer have the ability to weaponize through doors, and quick menus will no longer be accessible while a dialogue window is open. Another problem that the update has now resolved is the issue where Two Faces’ henchmen would not attack in certain hallways.

Other issues that have now been resolved include the one where black SUV vehicles were not appearing correctly when damaged, an audio issue in the Oolong Island Alert that would sometimes prevent doors from making the appropriate sounds, and the issue where released NPCs would not attack gorillas in Gorilla Island.

The update has also made improvements to client stability, improved Marketplace UI functionality, adjusted the Voice Chat distortion, updated the lighting across some of Oolong’s interiors, made minor environment tweaks to Hive Moon Base, added the ability to take screenshots on the PS3 and added boss fight music to The Batcave Outer Caverns Raid.

You can read what other changes, improvements and fixes have been made via the examiner.com website. Are you a fan of the DC Universe Online game?

If you are a DC Universe Online subscriber and loved the recent Green Lantern movie and couldn’t get enough of Hal Jordan and his magic powers, you’ll be very interested to know that Sony are releasing some Green Lantern-specific DLC soon.

The upcoming DLC pack is titled Fight for the Light, but the big talking point here is that subscribers will still have to pay an additional fee to download this pack. The obvious argument here, is why should gamers have to pay extra when they are already paying to play the game per month – shouldn’t DLC come as bonuses as a gesture of goodwill?

Sadly, this isn’t the case and Fight for the Light will be priced at $9.99 on the PlayStation 3 or PC, as detailed from GameGuru. For those of you who are not too concerned about paying for this, you’ll enjoy visiting the worlds of both the Lantern Corps as well as the evil Sinestro Corps, although you won’t actually be able to take the role of a Lantern as far as we can tell.

However, you will be able to possess the power rings that grant you the same powers that a Lantern or Sinestro has, so those of you clinging on to the hope of performing some of the awesome moves seen in the recent movie can still do just that as one such weapon includes a chainsaw – yes the very weapon that was utilized so well by Ryan Reynolds in the film.

Back to the real debate here though, and that’s whether or not this content should have been free or not. Don’t forget that this release is different to Sony’s usual stance on delivering free updates for the game. Perhaps the fact that the content features the Green Lantern and we’ve just had a hollywood movie in his honor was just to tempting for Sony, and they have seized the first opportunity to cash in as soon as possible.

$9.99 isn’t exactly cheap as well for some of you, so we’ll be interested to hear just how many of you are still planning to buy the content. If you currently have a subscription to the game, are you happy paying an additional fee for the Green Lantern add-on content? There’s no solid release date for the pack yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s about to drop.

Should gamers have to pay Fight for the Light, or should Sony make it free for all subscribers?

Earlier this month, Sony Online Entertainment announced its DLC plans for the recently-released DC Universe Online game. As we previously mentioned in our article here, this included the addition of seasonal-themed content, Catwoman and an eight-player raid of the Batcave.

Well according to a recent article by Mike Schramm over on the joystiq.com website (sourced from PC Gamer), the first major update for both the PS3 and PC version of DC Universe Online has now arrived, bringing along with it the much-awaited Auction House functionality.

As Jim Girgenti at gamingbolt.com recently reported, the new update is said to have improved both server and client stability, added extra support for PC game controllers and fixed an issue that sometimes caused Absorb Heat to restore more health than it was intended to.

The game’s audio has also received some improvements. For example, the staff ranged effects should now play audio and the communicator messages shouldn’t play multiple times when activating new quests any more. You can read the full list of features and fixes via gamingbolt.com.

This doesn’t appear to be the only update that has been planned for DC Universe Online either, as Sony’s Chris Cao recently revealed that future updates will bring The Penguin and The Flash into the game. Have you downloaded the new update yet?

If you’re one of the many PlayStation 3 and PC gamers that have been waiting to hear about upcoming DLC for the recently released DC Universe Online game, we can now tell you that you’re in luck. Sony Online Entertainment has just revealed its DLC plans, which appear to include Catwoman.

According to a recent article by Mike Jackson over on the computerandvideogames.com website, Sony revealed that Catwoman will be heading to the subscription-based MMO game via downloadable content later this month, and will appear in both NPC and playable form.

One of Catwoman’s missions involves her stealing artifacts from the Gotham museum, with players then having to chase her over the rooftops of the city. Gamers will then be given the opportunity to take control of the villain, as she battles it out in PvP matches within the Legends Mode.

As Scott Grill from examiner.com recently reported, the DLC will also bring a mix of seasonal-themed content including the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite. Another upcoming addition will be an eight-player raid for the Batcave, which will allow players to fight alongside Batman.

You can read more about the upcoming DLC via the examiner.com website. Are you looking forward to the addition of Catwoman?

Although the DC Universe Online game – which is available for both the PC and PlayStation 3 – was only released less than two weeks ago, we have already heard about a few problems. In fact, as Peter Chubb noted here, gamers began reporting issues with the game just one day after its release.

However, it now appears that Sony Online Entertainment has just released a new patch for the PC and PS3 title. According to a recent article by Joe Anderson over at VG247 (sourced from the official SOE forums), patch v1.03 has been designed to adjust the difficulty, as well as fix a few glitches.

The new patch is said to have fixed an issue where the game’s audio would drop after cut scenes if the player had their music volume set at 0, as well as improved the Client stability and performance and fixed a problem in which the other characters would appear to ‘warp’ onscreen.

It’s also fixed a problem that caused some PlayStation 3 gamers to disconnect or hang during the tutorial. The missions in DC Universe Online – which according to Sebastian Moss at playstationlifestyle.net has now become SOE’s “fastest selling game ever” – have also received a few tweaks.

For example, the Hardcorps and Fateful Omen quests are now available at level 26 instead of level 27, the Road to Hell and Something’s Fishy… quests are now available at level 22 rather than level 23 and the No Joke quest has now been made available at level 18 instead of 19.

You can read the full list of fixes and changes via vg247.com. Have you been experiencing any issues with the DC universe Online game since it was released?

Earlier today we spoke about some of the problems that gamers have been experiencing with DC Universe Online. So now we thought we would offer a review roundup of the game, which is available for the PS3 and PC. However, the issue we have is that most of the information available to use is for the Sony console only.

Neocrisis has given the game a 9 out of 10, and you can tell right away that Jazzking2001 was going to love the game, as he made a point of being excited about playing with some of the heroes/villains that he grew up with. His review is very in-depth and knows that the game has a lot to give, and the opening sequence makes certain to drag you into the game from the start.

Reviews for the game are few and far between, but one that we came across that needed a mention was from Bleeding Cool. I can tell from the start that Rich Johnston is not a fan of such games, but he has given it the benefit of the doubt. However, he makes no bones about how tedious MMOs are – not expecting much from this review then.

Next up is not a review as such but a first impressions video that we have for you below. This is for the beta version, but still gives you a great impression of what you can expect from the full game. What are your first thoughts on the game? Is there anything that should be included in the first update?

DC Universe Online had been in the development stage for a little over two years, but was finally released on January 11, 2011. The game is a joint venture with Warner Bros and Sony Online Entertainment, and is not only available for the PS3 but for the PC as well. Now you will be able to control not only the heroes but the villains of the DC comics as well.

As the game has only been available for a day we do not expect much in the way of problems, but that has not stopped a few reports coming in. The first issue that we came across on the GameSpot Forum was the fact that the redeem code did not work for one user, we wonder if this has happened for anyone else?

Also another users on the same forum had a problem with launching the game. This was also another code issue, but there is a detailed way in how to get he game to load, which you can read for yourself here.

We have noticed a few more issues that have been posted on GameFAQS, again this is the PS3 version, we have no details if these problems that we will list bellow affect the PC version at all. The first is the ‘No ground glitch’. What happens here is when the ground has not fully rendered, then there is a small chance that you can fall through it.

The most worrying glitch is how the game can wipe all your saved data on your PS3 – now if true that is one to worry about. These are just some of the problems that people have been experiencing with DC Universe Online, we do not have any issues with PC issues just yet – maybe you know of one or two?

Back in July of this year we brought our readers news of a November 2nd release date for the much-anticipated DC Universe online MMO, but as you all know the game was then delayed. We now have good news for you, as it’s now been given a January 2011 release date.

According to a recent article by Tom Ivan over at computerandvideogames.com (sourced from IGN), Sony Online Entertainment has recently announced that the DC Universe Online game will be arriving on the PC and PlayStation 3 on January 11th in the United States.

UK gamers have to wait a few days more however, as it releases on January 14th for them. According to an IGN report, the PC version will set gamers back $49.99, while the PS3 version will be priced up slightly more at $59.99. Each one comes with a free 3-day subscription.

However, once the free subscription expires, the game will then cost $15 (£9.60) a month or $199 (£128) for lifetime subscription. PS3 owners who are subscribed to the PlayStation Plus service have already been able to get a taste of the new MMO with the recently released beta.

Now that the game has been given an official release date, it appears that a trophy list has been revealed as well. According to an ign.com report by Greg Miller, there are a number of trophies to collect including a platinum trophy, which you are awarded once you have won all the others.

Are you looking forward to the release of DC Universe Online?

We have some important news for PlayStation Plus subscribers on the PS3 now, and news which will surely bring a smile to your face. Sony has just confirmed that subscribers will be getting a free pass into the beta for upcoming MMO DC Universe Online.

As reported from Joystiq, Sony has just posted an update on their US PlayStation Blog, confirming that the beta will be available for every PS Plus subscriber, and not a selected few which often happens to the frustration of many.

Sony hasn’t given an exact date and time for the beta, but they have said that it will be available very soon. They have also said that players will be able to create their own villain as well as a superhero in the beta, so least you’ll have that option.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming beta? Have you been keeping an eye on development for DC Universe Online? Suddenly that $50 PS Plus subscription price doesn’t seem too harsh, with all the regular goodies that Sony keeps offering. Will you now subscribe to play this or not?

We have some great news for those of you looking forward to the release of MMO DC Universe Online, as Sony Online Entertainment has just announced a launch date for the title.

As reported from Play.tm, the game will be available to play on the PS3 and PC platforms on November 2nd. The date was announced at Comic Con over the weekend, and a brand new trailer was revealed too – it’s pretty immense.

As you expect, the game will feature all your favorite heroes and villains from the DC Universe, and most of them feature in the new trailer below.

Here is what writer Jim Lee had to say on the game’s upcoming release: “It’s better than anyone ever thought it could be!” – Nice and short, that’s what we like to hear Jim.

The game has been in development long enough, so let’s hope SOE can deliver with constant updates after release. Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts on the game.

Are you buying this?
