Review: D-Link DIR-685 Xtreme N Storage Router
Filed under: Computers, Networking

We have a review for you to check out now on the new D-Link DIR-685 Xtreme N Storage Router. The review comes to you from Slashgear and as usual, there are plenty of images of the devices for you to look at too.
The D-Link DIR-685 Xtreme N Storage Router is not your conventional router as this one contains a few features that you wouldn’t expect to see in a router. The most obvious ones are it’s 3.2-inch LCD display and built in media streamer.
There is also no sign of those usual external antennas that you would expect to find on routers. These new features do come at a price however and $299 is certainly not cheap.
Check out Slashgears review and let us know your thoughts on the D-Link DIR-685.

D-Link reduces their routers power usage by 40%
Filed under: Computers, Networking, Routers

D-Link has announced that they will be making changes to several of their routers in a move that will reduce power consumption and save you money.
The move is part of their plan to expand its successful ‘Green Ethernet’ technology as first seen in its previous models, the DWA-643 and DWA-553. Best of all however is that users who own the DIR-665 Xtreme N Gigabit router and the DIR-855 dual channel router will benefit from Green Technology in the way of a firmware update, meaning that this will not cost you anything to set up.
For those of you lucky enough to have one of those routers, the effects of this move could save you lots of money in the long run as D-Link have stated that the DIR-655 will benefit from a 32% power saving, while the DIR-855 will save an even better 41%.
D-link Marketing Manger Andrew Mulholland continued, “D-Link is proud to be taking the lead in integrating innovative, power-saving technology into its home and business networking solutions that doesn’t sacrifice performance or functionality. By offering green upgrades to our most popular Wi-Fi routers, we’re helping protect the environment whilst our customers save money in the process.”
So it’s a great bit of news for some D-Link owners out there, but if only Netgear could do the same to their routers, I’d be even happier.
