There have been a number of surprises – followed by disappointments. But all in all it was a great event – now comes the time when Engadget takes stock of what they learned.

The biggest news was the launch of the first fully working 4G handset on Sprint – the HTC EVO 4G. But like all things, good news is followed by bad – that would be the Verizon Nexus One no show. However, do not let that worry you too much, as there were a number of other launches that more than made up for it.

We had the news that the Palm Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus was coming to AT&T, and the fact that Verizon were getting a Skype app. AT&T announced the launch of the Dell Aero – this is just their second Android handset.

Engadget were busy at the event, at last count they had 21 hands-on reports – from cell phones to accessories. For more details the Engadget blog

The event will be on for a full three days, with the main attention seemingly on Sprint’s and Verizon’s 4G plans.

As reported from Sci-Tech-Today, you can expect tons of Mobile applications and a few new handsets to be introduced during the event.

We have already told you about the first – the Motorola i1 Android handset, but the real deal here is the highly anticipated press conferences from both Sprint and Verizon.

Sprint are strongly expected to finally lift the lid on the 4G-capable HTC Supersonic phone, while Verizon has major plans of their own regarding their 4G LTE network roll out.

We already know that the Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola’s i1 pop up and hopefully the HTC Supersonic and Incredible will be there, we just wait to see what other handsets put in an appearance.

All the big names in the cell phone industry will be there, well not Apple of course. Engadget has a special CTIA 2010 page for you to visit – making it much easier to keep up with the latest news from the event. Hope you are ready, because there will be a huge amount of news coming up shortly.

There has already been some hot news even before the show started, such as a first hands-on with the Motorola i1, then the Dell Aero coming to AT&T. Samsung has a number of incentives that it will share with us on its Galaxy S smartphone – Engadget has taken a closer look to see what we have to look forward to.

The first thing that you need to know is that the S stands for Smart Life, it does not look as though it will be a smartphone as such – instead a strategy, whatever that means.

It seems that the new standard will be 1GHz applications processor in Samsungs premium smartphone range for 2010 – it is assumed that this will be the very capable Cortex A8-based c that we heard about back in 2009.

Samsung will also concentrate on movie and magazine content, which will take full advantage of the Super AMOLED displays on the new range of handsets. Microsoft will be displaying its Windows Phone 7 Series smartphones with Sprint and HTC possibly showing a 4G-capable device. There is also likely to be discussions from AT&T and Verizon about the expansion of their networks. James Cameron “Avatar” director and AT&T’s CEO Randall Stephenson will also be there as featured speakers.

A joint press conference is planned for Verizon and Skype on March 23rd for the companies to show off Skype mobile on Verizon Blackberry and Google Android devices. With Palm suffering recent sales beatings, the company will host a booth at the show, and it is said that Verizon is to be followed by AT&T in offering Palm phones onto the market.
