Buying a new car whether it’s a used one or brand new, can be a tough decision that has you worried if the vehicle in question will be reliable. Luckily there are a number of surveys that are taken from actual owners of the cars which can help potential buyers decide. Today we can tell you that the respected Consumers Reports cars 2011 finds Ford dropping in the survey.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that there was some good news for Chrysler though after finishing bottom of the pile last year, it climbed to the middle of the pack. The publication did note though that many Chrysler models cannot be recommended to consumers though. Detroit models still suffered from reliability problems.

Ford suffered this year though by slipping ten places to number 20 out of 28, which is far below its Asian rivals. Meanwhile General Motors had mixed results in the survey with Chevrolet remained at number 17, but GMC and Buick slipped further down along with Cadillac that finished 25th.

Japanese car manufacturers made up 9 of the top 10 with Toyota’s Scion brand sitting top. This was followed by Lexus, Acura, Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Infiniti, Subaru, and Nissan. Germanys Volkswagen brand finished off the top ten.

The Consumers Report survey was based on the opinions of 1.3 million users of its website, and the results are used to predict reliability for new 2012 models. Fords slip down the rankings wasn’t helped by flaws in its MyFord Touch system. It was found to be distracting to drivers as they have to take their eyes off the road when driving.

Ford responded by saying it had already made changes to the system, and can also be used with voice commands. The company’s new PowerShift dual-clutch transmission found on the Fiesta and Focus also got some criticism. It was found not to perform well at low speeds and also makes a chattering noise.

A new Consumer Reports shows that AT&T is the worst wireless carrier in the U.S., and it is no secret that the carrier wanted to respond to the report. We have known for some time that customers of the only carrier in North America to have the iPhone have not been happy with dropped calls and poor service. However, they do have the fastest service.

PC World has been reporting on the reactions that AT&T’s Glenn Lurie has been giving during an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Have looked over the interview we start to get the picture that they are putting the blame on the iPhone, as they did not envisage how popular it would become.

Lurie did add that AT&T has started to improve their service, and that this “Consumer Reports is just one source of the feedback that his company is constantly collecting.” He then went on to say that they have now started to receive far less complaints than they did in the past.

There is certainly some truth to that last remark, we have known for some time that AT&T has started to improve on their service, and has invested billions of dollars to give their customers a service that they deserve.

Don Reisinger from eWeek believes that it is now time for Apple to distance itself from AT&T following this report. In his article he lists ten reasons why. I am not certain that this will be a good move by Apple; they need to mirror what they do in the UK, and offer the iPhone to all carriers – only then will they be able to stop the freight-train that is Android.

What we also learned from the Consumer Reports is that U.S. Cellular came out on top, and it did not take long for AT&T to react to the report and say the other three major carriers in the U.S. has more complaints than them.

Following on from the big news surrounding Consumer Reports’ verdict of AT&T being the ‘worst carrier in the US’ we have now heard a response from the carrier, who have offered up some figures of their own.

As reported from BGR, AT&T has offered up a counter report to the study by Consumer Reports, by saying that figures from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has revealed that AT&T is actually the ‘best’ carrier in the US.

Although by best, they mean that AT&T is the least complained about carrier in the US, and they have provided a graph to back it up. According to AT&T, the other three main carriers in the US all had worse complaint stats than AT&T, during the last 12 months, ending December 3rd 2010.

Consumer reports readers may think that AT&T is the worst carrier in the US, but AT&T has immediately hit back by stating that Verizon had 34% more complaints, Sprint 117% more, and T-Mobile a whopping 207% more complaints than AT&T.

What are your thoughts on this? We previously asked you if you agreed with the Consumer Reports verdict, but do you have any else to add on this topic based on AT&T’s counter report? We’ll update you when we hear more news on this.

It seems everyone is taking a swipe at AT&T lately, check out this new T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Ad which we’ve uploaded below.
