It has been claimed the Apple MacBook Air is priced pretty high, and there are plenty of cheaper alternatives on offer from non-Mac OS X laptops. This might be the case but it seems the new 2012 MacBook Air might be a better deal than some people claim it to be, which is seen clearly when we look at the Ultrabook prices that are hoping to be real alternatives to the MacBook lineup.

The next-generation of Ultrabooks will be cheaper than the new MacBook Air, although these Windows-based portable computers will not be priced low enough. This opinion comes from Brian J. White and after he had some hands-on time with the new Intel packing Ultrabooks, featuring a much thinner profile with Intel’s new chips, and it left him feeling unimpressed.

Gigabyte offer an Ultrabook option (X11) for those of our readers looking for something other than a MacBook Air, and while the new 11-inch model features a nice carbon fiber casing it missed the right price point. This new Gigabyte Ultrabook has a release pegged for July at more than $999, which is $300 more than the price threshold White expects for Ultrabooks to stay competitive against the new 2012 MacBook Air. You can see a video hands-on with the Gigabyte X11 Ultrabook below this article, which was shot during Computex 2012 so have a watch and share a comment.

Will you be one of the first in-line for a new MacBook Air, or are you considering a Windows-based Ultrabook? You can read the full opinion of Brian J. White from Topeka Capital Markets in this article, although we’d love to know if you are happy to pay above $700 for an Ultrabook? Keep up with all the Computex news on this page and keep connected on PR’s Facebook channel.

The Computex 2011 schedule is looking very busy, which is great for us, as during the event computer makers will be teasing us with some new tablets. We already heard rumors that there will be a few Intel powered tablets, and we have reason to believe that there are ten on the offering. The event will begin on May 31 and run to June 4, 2011.

When you visit the official Computex website you will see the complete schedule list. We noticed that there is to be a Pre-Show Int’l Press Conference & New Product Preview on May 30. This will give the press a heads up of what to expect in those coming days. The first main event will be at 9 in the morning the following day. The full schedule can be found here, which is currently unconfirmed.

So we already know that there will be a number of new Intel powered tablets, but a new model from ASUS will not be one of them and might be powered by the ever-popular Tegra 2 from NVIDIA. However, we are still uncertain if this will be a tablet of phone, so we are uncertain as to what processor will be running things.

Engadget has an interesting thought; they think that it could be a fusion of tablet and phone. The sad thing is, we will have to wait until next week to find out exactly what it is, but we would like to hear what you have to say about it.

What are your expectations from Computex 2011?
