The Columbus Day sales at Best Buy are all found on one page, which showcases the best deals in GPS, tablet’s, laptops, music, movies, video games, cameras, home theater and a lot more. The sale runs for two days only and started yesterday. You can see all the offers on this page, and while they’re not up to the “Black Friday” prices with no “doorbuster deals” in sight, you can find something special at a pretty good price.

We wanted to highlight a couple of products that grabbed our attention, and these included a free Insignia GPS receiver when you buy a selected iPod touch. The Aspire One Netbook (AO722-0611) is currently discounted to a pretty good $249.99, and you can also pick up a Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet with 32GB of storage for $329.99.

Those of you that love a good deal on cameras can find free shipping and a range of offers, these include up to $130 off selected Nikon DSLRs, and a $100 discount on the Panasonic GF2 compact system camera.

Normally at this time of the year there are a great number of offers to choose from, but for some reason they seem to be limited. You would have thought that they would be advertised better, but it seems that the likes of Walmart and Target are building up to Halloween instead.

However, there are a few tech deals up for grabs at great prices this weekend, you just need a helping hand where to find them. Many stores will be passing on savings on Toshiba products, so to know what devices are up for offer then you need to visit their website. However, upon closer inspection they are all laptops.

There are 39 products in all, although not all of them are in a sale. However, those that we have seen have savings from $50 to $200 off, which will come in very handy right now. See all the Toshiba deals here. Best Buy is not advertising their deals like we had hoped, but they are there, you just need to know where to look.

You can get 25 percent of a 40-inch Toshiba TV, or $300 of a 60-inch off a Westinghouse TV. There are three other TVs on offer from Insignia, all with $100 off the normal retail price. If a smartphone is on your list this weekend, then why not consider a HTC Thunderbolt for $199.99, LG Thrill 4G for just $99.99 or even the Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon also for $99.99. Dell does not have a Columbus Day weekend sale, but they do have the next best thing, their October Signature Event – a sales a sales right? How about wondering what apps would have appealed to the navigator, colonizer, and explorer?

Brad Spirrison from Appolicious believes that he knows what apps would have made life much easier for Christopher Columbus. The most popular app would have been Google Earth, if only this technology was available to him – just think how things would have been?

Columbus like all explorers needed to be backed by investors, but finding them would have been hard back in 1451-1506. There are now a number of apps that puts you in touch with venture capital investors – so life is easy if you plan on doing something that requires capital like Columbus needed.

OK, so we know that this is all a bit of fun, but it just shows how life has changed and how hard it must have been at the time.

For those of you with children, then you should plan a few fun activities to help celebrate this great day. How cool would it be to get them to color some pages, learn a few poems and rhymes, or even learn a few facts about his ships?

If we were to go back a decade or two this day was very important to many American’s – now this is not the case. The amount of businesses allowing staff to take the day off work is getting less, such as those at Best Buy.

However, what is not good for these workers is certainly good for the consumer, as you can get the chance to grab yourself a bargain. A number of Best Buy stores in the U.S. are holding a special Columbus Day Clearance event, which begins at 9AM in whichever area you live in.

Looking online there are deals to be had on a Plasma HDTV and Blu-ray home cinema system, which has $430 off the normal price. There are also a range of Dell computers; prices start at just $349.99.

These are just a few offers that I can see on the Best Buy website. However, if you are not in the market for any products from the retail giant, then there are a number sales and offers going on in other stores; more details here.
