Back in 1998 the first-ever Colin McRae Rally game was released, since then we have seen 8 more instalments which have all taken rally driving very seriously, it looks like things will be changing with the next release.

When DiRT 3 was released in early 2010 it was the first in the series to drop the Colin McRae name, now we are hearing that the next game will be called DiRT Showdown and will be an arcade-style spinoff where it will be based on destruction as well as racing.

If you weren’t gaming in the late ’90s you probably know nothing about a couple of demolition derby games which Ubisoft developed back in the days when they were known as Reflections Interactive. These were called Destruction Derby and Destruction Derby 2, it looks like DiRT Showdown will be quite a lot like these title, however obviously we expect mouthwatering visuals and a huge emphasis on multiplayer game modes.

This recent GameSpot article is a great read if you want to find out all about this upcoming title, apparently you should expect simpler handling and plenty of stunts. Game modes include Smash Hunters, Trick Rush, Head 2 Head, Lap Attack, Eliminator, Domination, Rampage, Hard Target and King of the Ring. Also there is a mission-based mode called JoyRide and an emphasis on social features, this will include the ability to challenge your friends and view leaderboards.

As you would expect the tracks have been designed to promote destruction, so expect tight corners and plenty of ramps, as for vehicles there will be lots of options at your disposal including cars, buggies, trucks ans even hearses. Check out the video below for a sneak peak, you can clearly see that it should arrive in May 2012, also it is worth noting that DiRT 4 will go back to the realistic rally racing gameplay when it arrives.

Do you like the look of DiRT Showdown?

We have some rather exciting news now for those of you that are waiting for the much-anticipated Dirt 3 game to arrive later this month, as we’ve just learned that the developer Codemasters has recently revealed a brand new gameplay trailer for the upcoming rallying game.

According to a recent article over at shoptonews.net by Joe Anderson, the recently released trailer – which you can view below this post – gives fans a glimpse of the upcoming game, including Rallycross, Rally, night racing, Gymkhana, weather conditions and a few locations.

The trailer doesn’t appear to be the only thing that Codemasters revealed either, as they also unveiled details of a Dirt 3 pre-order bonus. The pre-order incentive – entitled Superteams Pack – unlocks 14 cars that players are able to take to the track immediately, and 4 exclusive teams.

Players will be provided with the Texaco Racing Team, Mobil 1 Performance Team, Brembo Racing Team and Team Yokohama, which they will then be able to drive for. This will provide them with access to exclusive team liveries, as well as the opportunity to boost their driver rep.

The Superteams Pack will also give players immediate access to cars such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Jun, the iconic Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the Ford RS200 Rallycross. The Dirt 3 game is due to arrive on May 24th, and will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Are you thinking about buying the Dirt 3 game?
