Late last week we heard news that Belkin has entered an agreement to buy Cisco’s Home Networking Business Unit. This means they will take over all of their proven brands including Cisco’s Linksys business and the talented employees. According to Chet Pipkin, CEO of Belkin, the two organizations share similar beliefs with the passion to meet the real needs of their customers, therefore they aim is to make Belkin a leader in the connected home and wireless networking space.

This is another step to add to their vision as they intend to maintain and build on the strong Linksys brand and continue to show support for their products after the transaction closes. In an article on Belkin.com they highlight how the company account for around 30% of the U.S. retail home and small business networking market, and they aim to keep Linksys’ market a growing presence.

With Linksys being one of the leading home networking providers Hilton Romanski, VP Corporate Business Development at Cisco, feels this strategic relationship with Belkin will assist the growth of Linksys’ current position creating new opportunities for consumers, distribution partners and resellers making it the strongest retail presence in the U.S. networking marketplace.

In addition, Pipin also said, Belkin will have access to a large install base taking full advantage of the new technologies that will come with the likes of smartphones, tablets, notebooks and other home automation arenas. Do you feel the acquisition of Cisco’s Linksys business will give Belkin the opportunity to become an even bigger name in the world of home networking technology?

Cisco has recently made changes to their Flip Video pocket camcorder offerings, they have now phased out all of the remaining standard-definition models and introduced new and improved versions of the Flip UltraHD and Flip MinoHD.

Previously the Flip UltraHD and the Flip MinoHD recorded 720p video at 30 frames per second, however the new models have double the frame rate (60fps), also they feature digital image stabilization. These improvements should allow you to record much smoother-looking video.

The new Flip UltraHD models are available in two capacities, the 8GB (2-hour) model costs $200, whereas the 4GB (1-hour) model costs $150. Both capacities are slimmer than their predecessor you can find out more here.

The new MinoHD models are also available in two capacities, the 8GB (2-hour) model costs $230, whereas the 4GB (1-hour) model costs $180. Both capacities are more compact than the new Flip UltraHD models and and feature the new proprietary FlipPort, you can find out more here.

Will you buy one of these new models? If so, which one will you choose?

Just in case you was not aware, back in early 2009 Cisco purchased Pure Digital Technologies, we are now hearing rumors suggesting that Cisco are planning to release some new Flip camcorders.

Details regarding these new camcorders are unknown, however we can expect to hear an announcement sometime in mid-April (sometime around the NAB show).

Some are speculating that perhaps they will release a camcorder capable of 1080p video recording, to be honest this sounds like an obvious progression for Flip devices.

As we hear further details we will try to keep you posted, for more information check out SlashGear.

What would you like these new Flip camcorders to feature?

Earlier on today we posted an article which looked into what Cisco’s big Internet changing announcement could be, we have now heard that they have announced a new carrier routing system which is called CRS-3.

CRS-3 will act as the foundation for the next-generation of the Internet usage, it will apparently offer more than 12 times the traffic capacity which its closest competitor’s complete system offers.

CRS-3 will feature a capacity of up to 322 Terabits per second, this bandwidth would allow every man, woman and child in China to make simultaneous video calls, also this has the bandwidth to stream every motion picture ever made in just four minutes.

To find extremely detailed information check out Yahoo Finance’s article here.

It seems as if today could be a memorable day which could forever change the Internet, this is because a huge announcement is expected from Cisco.

We are not sure what exactly this announcement could be, however a recent article posted on KCBS suggest it could possibly related to delivering HD video over the Internet.

Cisco Systems Inc have invited media and analysts to witness “significant announcement” this announcement “will forever change the Internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and governments.”

Over the years Cisco have excelled in the networking and communications technology industry, therefore it seems likely that Cisco’s huge announcement will be related to this, as we find out more we will keep you posted.

What do you think this announcement will be?
