In recent years we have seen many different cars and trucks being recalled for various manufacturing defects. A bizarre new problem has surfaced on the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and an incorrectly fixed steering wheel.

Jonathan Welsh from The Wall Street Journal is reporting that at least one driver had the steering wheel come away from the column. This has resulted in the General Motors Corp. recalling 2,100 vehicles as a result of the problem.

The recall is quite a small one, but Chevrolet has seen the model prove to be pretty successful so far selling 50,205 up to the end of March. The Chevrolet Cruze was brought out to replace the Cobalt which only sold 37,379 in the same period.

Chevrolet have said they traced the problem where the wrong wheel was placed in a car, and later replaced with the correct one but wasn’t attached properly. When the problem occurred the driver managed to get his Cruze to the side of the road, and the company said they found no other cars with the fault after testing cars from the same production run.

The manufacturer has since changed the production process so only the correct steering wheel can be used by the machine which fits them. All the vehicles made before this process change are part of the recall which has started now. Owners can contact Chevrolet on 1-800-630-2438.

Following on from our previous report on the Chevrolet Cruze, we now have a high quality video preview for you to check out, giving you an up-close-and-personal look at the new model before release.

Earlier on we told you how the electric Chevrolet Cruze would be launched in South Korea first, before it hits the North American market – a move which is surely going to be a blow to motor enthusiasts who wanted this from day one.

However, the motor does look like it’s well worth waiting for, you can check out some high resolution images of the motor over at Autoblog here.

While the pictures are pretty stunning, we recommend you check out the official Chevrolet video we’ve posted below, giving you a solid look inside the motor, as well as the on-screen dashboard too.

Are you looking forward to the release of the Chevrolet Cruze?

Those of you in the U.S. will not be happy of the fact that GM will not be launching their Electric Chevrolet Cruze Car on home soil – instead the upcoming EV will be tested in South Korea. These battery-powered vehicles will be developed with a little help from LG, which is due to start in October.

According to New York Daily News, who gathered their information from AP reports that the cars will use batteries from LG Chemical, with the electric motor being developed by LG Electronics.

The demo fleet will not only be made up with the Chevy Cruzes, the GM Daewoo Lacetti Premiere will make up a portion as well. The idea behind these tests is for General Motors to develop a fully working electric compact – we just have to wonder why GM do not want to offer this to the U.S.?

However, do not let this bother you too much, as there is still the upcoming Chevy Volt, and early signs prove that this could become a very popular EV, and more vehicles based on this technology will follow. For those looking for a smaller Electric Vehicle in the U.S., then you may have to consider the Nissan Leaf. This is a fully EV and does not come with a Gasoline engine as the Volt does.
