While there will be a huge number of products on show during CES next month, the one device that seems to grab the biggest attention is the TV. These devices have been with us for years and the technology growth over the last few years has been mind blowing, as consumer electronic makers find new ways to bring all our media needs into one device. It’s safe to say that the Samsung 2013 Smart TV Series will step their game up, and if the visual teaser ahead of CES is anything to go by, there are some nice products coming next year.

We already know that LG have a few surprises planned as well with their new range, which is certain to focus on gaming more than they have in previous years thanks to a little help from Google. However, Samsung will not allow them to have all the fun and hope that their updated Smart Hub will help to make the user experience far more intuitive than it has been in the past.

There’s also going to be an upgrade to the Motion Control feature, so you will soon be able to flip between the five different categories of Smart Hub just by the wave of your hand, this will only apply to the high-end Samsung Smart TVs. These new features will no doubt me made available to current Samsung TVs by way of an update, but we know that a new range of Smart TVs are on their way because of the video teaser we have for you below. However, Samsung have been very secretive and don’t want to give too much away, but we do hope that we see the much-rumored 85-inch Ultra High Definition TV.

What can we see from the video teaser? As we said above, Samsung are not giving much away, but if you look at the video 40 seconds in you can see a Samsung TV on a billboard with no bezel whatsoever, so could that be the new 85-inch model we mentioned above? We do love the video teaser, as it shows that all other TVs are rushing to see what Samsung has to show us during CES 2013. We’ve also added another video of what else we can expect from TVs during the event.

The release of the Nexus 7 and 10 proved to Google that it’s not all about the Samsung Galaxy range of tablets or even the Apple iPad, because they have both proved very popular. However, because there are so many people out there with far less disposable income than they once had, the idea of a budget Nexus tablet is more popular than ever before. There has been many rumors in regards to the so-called $99 Nexus tablet, but it looks as though we are now beginning to see a preparation for launch, which is rumored to be revealed during CES 2013.

In a recent article they have been looking at how Google prepared for the release of their current Nexus tablets with letting out a few leaks, and from the looks of things, the new budget version looks set to carry on the same way. The first step was always a photo leak, and so it came as no surprise that on Picasa an image was leaked of the ME172V tablet, which many people believe to be the $99 Nexus tablet. If the rumors are correct then some photos that have appeared on Picasa might have actually been taken with a device named ME172V, but could this really be the $99 Nexus tablet like it has been suggested?

Not much is known about this cheaper Android tablet, but it’s said to come with a 1GHz processor, have a 400MHz Mali GPU, 1GB or RAM, 1-megapixel front facing camera, and the tablet could be running Android 400MHz Mali GPU. While the $99 Nexus tablet specs might not be the best on the market, and for good reason, they are pretty impressive considering the price – if this is all true of course.

A couple of weeks ago we spoke about the 2nd-gen Nexus 7 and how it could be an entry-level tablet, we now we wonder if this could actually be it?

With CES 2012 looming we are intrigued as to which products will attract the most attention, last year lots of 4G smartphones, Android tablets and 3DTVs stole the show, however a lot has changed in a year and we can’t wait to see what the World’s largest and most intuitive electronic product manufacturers have up their sleeves – today we will talk about 5 technology advances which PCWorld.com think will be hot this year.

Firstly let’s talk about Organic Light Emitting Diode displays aka OLED. OLED displays have been seen in lots of smartphones and tablets lately, however we have not seen any affordable monitors or TVs, could this be the year things change? We have already heard that LG will be showing off a 55-inch OLED display, but this won’t be affordable, maybe Samsung’s CES 2012 plans will also consist of some reasonably priced OLED displays.

Whilst we are talking about HDTVs we will talk about 4K, this is a technology which allows display resolutions which are four times as dense as 1080p, with smartphones already boasting 720p displays we think it is about time that home HDTVs start advancing to new high-definition standards and 4K certainly is a great jump in our opinion.

We first got a taster of Ice Cream Sandwich back in November last year, now plenty of devices have received an update to ICS, but we haven’t seen a great deal of devices specifically designed for this new Android version, we expect to see lots of Android devices at the show all running Ice Cream Sandwich, there will be less physical buttons than ever before as ICS doesn’t require the physical ‘Android buttons’ which we have seen of late – also we presume that plenty of manufacturers will announce more details regarding updates to ICS for existing devices.

Something which will tie in with Android Ice Cream Sandwich is quad-core technology, to date we have not seen any quad-core smartphones hit the market, but now that dual-core processors in smartphones are becoming the norm we are sure that smartphone manufacturers will be keen to unveil more powerful smartphones with quad-core chips.

Finally we will quickly mention Ultrabooks, for the last year or so we have seen MacBook Air competitors hit the market, however advances in microprocessor technology will now allow for thinner designs and longer battery life, therefore it seems likely that new Ivy Bridge-based devices will make a debut hopefully boasting solid-state-disks which don’t cost ridiculous amounts – perhaps we will get to see Windows 8 running on some of these Ultrabooks, that would certainly give us a taster as to what to expect in the future.

So there you have it folks, devices which fall into the OLED, 4K, Ice Cream Sandwich, quad-core smartphone and Ultrabook categories are what we think will be hot this year at CES 2012, perhaps we have missed something – if so let us know in the comments section below.

In two weeks time the annual Consumer Electronics Show will kick off in Las Vegas, it is thought that this year’s show will be one of biggest CES shows ever, but it looks like things will be much different when CES 2013 arrives.

Microsoft has announced that 2012 will be its last year at the event, the ultimate reasoning behind this is that the timing of the show doesn’t always fit in with the launches and announcements of new Microsoft products – instead exclusive events will now be preferred. In recent times we have seen Apple adopt similar tactics with its hyped-up keynotes, it looks like Microsoft will be taking a leaf out of Apple’s book.

The fact that large companies such as Microsoft and Apple now prefer to hold exclusive product launches rather than attending the Consumer Electronics Show to promote upcoming products could spell trouble for annual technology show. Some rumors are circulating which suggest that Microsoft may have actually been kicked out – but we very much doubt this as Microsoft pays a lot of money to exhibit at the show.

We are not too sure what Microsoft plan to reveal to the world at this year’s show, but we are expecting to see the Windows 8 beta and perhaps the future of Windows Phone OS – also there will undoubtedly be lots hardware manufacturers showing of new WP7 devices as well. Personally I hope that we finally get to see Windows 8 running on ARM hardware as this is a major step in the future of Microsoft’s operating systems – how about you?

If you head over to WashingtonPost.com you can find out more about why Microsoft decided to snub future CES events.

Do you think that CES can survive without Microsoft?
