Portable Cell Phones Jammer: Block inane conversations

How many times have you wished that you were able to block people’s inane conversations while on their cell phones. Well now you can with the Portable Universal Cell Phone Jammer. The thing is no larger than an Apple iPhone in size, so you can keep this cool gadget hidden away out of sight.
I just do not understand why people need to speak so loud when they are talking on their cell phone. The thing is those conversation is theirs and not ours, so why are we subjected to this verbal battering.
Well those annoyingly loud conversion could become a thing of the past, but I could see that there could be a lot of tension on a bus when someone’s phone conversation has been cut short for no apparent reason.
The Portable Universal Cell Phone Jammer will be able to create a dome of cellular silence of up to 32 feet in all directions. Those frequencies that are blocked are GSM850, EGSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, CDMA800, WCDMA/CDMA2000, PHS, and DECT. The device can even block out 3G, so even the new iPhone 3G is not immune to this device.
However there is a huge price to pay for a little peace and quiet on the bus, as the jammer will cost $246. Check it out over at Gadget Brando.
Nokia N96 will not be compatible with freeview in the UK

Filed under Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

The new Nokia N96 is due to be released later this year, and the good news is that the phone has just been cleared by the FCC meaning there shouldn’t be any delays leading up to release.
The successor of the N95 is packed with tons of great multimedia features as you would expect, such as a 240 x 320 pixels display along with built in GPS and Wi-Fi. Pricing is set to be around £400/$800 USD, so be prepared to blow a hole in your pocket for one of these.
One of the main features of the N96 is its capability to broadcast live digital TV using DVB-H. While this is great for many countries elsewhere, It was very disappointing for hear that it will not be compatible with freeview, for those of us in the UK, as that uses DVB-T only. As a previous owner of the N95, I was looking forward to picking one of these up, but as one of the main features of the phone, will be somewhat useless in the UK, I shall hold out for a better option.
As for the rest of the phone however, it is very impressive still. Here is a list of the main specs:
Supported networks
- DVB-H, class C, 470-750 MHz
- Automatic frequency band and mode switching
- Quad-band operation in GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks (EDGE)
- UMTS networks (WCDMA 2100/850; HSDPA)
Dimensions
- Depth: 18 mm (places to 20 mm)
- Width: 55 mm
- Length: 103 mm
- Weight: 125 g
- Volume: 92 cm 3
Memory
- 128 Mbytes of RAM, 256 Mbytes of system memory (operating system plus dynamic memory for user data)
- Music: 12,000 songs
- Video: 40 hours
- Approximate storage capacity is 16 GB disk space:
- 16 GB of internal flash memory, memory expansion via hot-swappable MicroSD memory cards
Operating Hours
- TV Play: Up to 4 hours (DVB-H)
- Battery: Nokia Battery BL-5F, 950 mAh
- Music playback: Up to 14 hours (in offline mode)
- Video playback: Up to 5 hours (in offline mode)
- Stand-by Time: GSM: Up to 220 hours; UMTS up to 200 hours
- Talk time: GSM: up to 220 min; UMTS: Up to 150 min
Display and user interface
- Active standby mode, multimedia menu
- User interface: S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2
- QVGA TFT display with a 6.1 inch diagonal display (2.8 inches) and 16.7 million colours at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.
So there it is, how many of you are tempted to pick one of these up in favour of an iPhone? Are there any UK readers out there who are also disappointed with the lack of DVB-H support? It was a strong selling point in my opinion; let us know what you think.

Hands on with the Jabra JX20 Pura headset

Over the past few years I have had a number of Bluetooth headsets, some I am too embarrassed to mention. Now I have had the chance to put something with a bit more quality in my ear. The earpiece that I am reviewing today is the Jabra JX20 Pura, this earpiece has been designed by Jacob Jensen.
It was just two years ago when Jabra wowed us with their JX10, this headset was small and elegant. Jabra has done it yet again with the JX20. From the moment I started to remove the Jabra JX20 Pura from the box, I could tell that although it was light the quality of the build was remarkable. You really have to hold one of these Bluetooth headsets in your hands to get an idea of just how light it is

Jawbone II Bluetooth Headset: less battery life
July 28, 2008 by Peter

Jawbone II is the second generation Bluetooth headset from the company, it is smaller than the old model as well as lighter and offering improved sound quality. On first glance Jawbone II looks all set to be a winner.
The first Jawbone was loved as it was simple in design, it did not rely on flashy looks. The old model was thin and sexy yet still managed to stay functional; you would have been mistaken for thinking that it was a piece of ear jewelry.
Many people still moaned that the Jawbone was still too heavy; this has led to the smaller lighter jawbone II. This is the same device, but smaller and does not have a huge ear hook like the old model. The Jawbone II is 50% smaller.
This Bluetooth headset is smaller and that comes at a price, as the battery life is a lot less. Expect to get 7 days standby and 4 hours talktime.
The Jawbone II will cost $130, for more information visit Yanko Design
PureDepth MLD Technology: coming to cell phones, gaming and in-car navigation
April 28, 2008 by Daniel

PureDepth, based in Redwood Shores CA, has developed what they call Multi-layer Display (MLD) technology. Essentially, the idea is to build displays that are in fact two or more layers of LCD panel that share a common back-light source – as data is displayed on the various layers, a depth effect is created. Optical correlation, compatibility and interferences between display layers are managed via patented interstitial elements within the optical stack of a MLD. Each display panel receives independent control signals and, through the coordination of the images, a true multi-layer visual display is presented to the user. The content of the images, combined with smart coordination can provide remarkable and eye-catching results for static images and even more so with full in-motion video sequences.
The technology lends itself to a broad array of applications. PureDepth is currently actively developing several of these: the company has signed agreements with Samsung for development of displays and mobile handsets, and is also collaborating with SANYO on mobile handsets, gaming technology, and automobile electronics (including in-car navigation). In fact, Samsung recently featured PureDepth’s display technology at CeBIT, the world’s largest technology trade show. The public-information configuration, placed adjacent to Samsung’s groundbreaking 80-inch flat panel display, received significant traffic and rave reviews.
The company expects to see first products – in gaming – hit the streets during 2008, with more products and applications to follow shortly thereafter.
Is the Apple iPhone really killing the internet? Big Debate

We all know the internet is a great place to be for wonderful things and innovation in some peoples eyes but where will the internet be in say 10 years time?
Could the internet really be dying? I ask this because with all these amazing cell phones like the Apple iPhone for example I believe it is phones like this that will kill the internet. Is this true on the grand scale of things is a something to wonder and according to an Oxford professor with degrees from Harvard and Yale it seems it could be true.
Jonathan Zittrain argues this point saying with identity theft, viruses and many other factors will kill the internet. To tell you the truth when not working I use the Apple iPhone as my source to get my work done.
Jonathan Zittrain says “That’s because these locked-down devices prohibit the kind of tinkering by end users that made PCs and the Internet such a force of economic, political and artistic change.

Virgin Mobile uses Eliot Spitzer scandal for ad campaign

Eliot Spitzer ha had a bad week after being humiliated in the U.S. Press; well it seems as if his trouble is going to come back and haughty him again. Virgin Mobile is to run the above ad into a marketing campaign; the ad will feature in Toronto newspapers.
The subtext in the ad will say “At Virgin Mobile, you’re more than just a number. When you call us we’ll treat you like a person, not a client. Whether you’re #9 or #900, you’ll get hooked up with somebody who’ll finally treat you just how you want to be treated.”
This will not go down well with Spitzer, and it will only be a matter of time before he retaliates.

Never miss a cell phone call again! Connect XLink to your home cordless phone. Turn on your bluetooth cell phone and wirelessly connect to XLink. It is as simple as connecting a bluetooth headset or car kit to your cell phone. Now, all the phones in your house will ring when your cell phone rings.

AT&T iPhone Customers Get Unlimited Call Plans
March 10, 2008 by Emma
Filed under Cell Phone Information, Cell Phones

iPhone users have a better price plan which has been introduced by AT&T and there’s also an unlimited option.
These options look good on the face of it, they start from $59.99 which will get you 450 minutes, 200 texts and 5000 weekend calls. Whilst if you chose the $119.99 price plan you will get unlimited minutes and weekend calls, but for some reason you will still only get 200 texts!
So if you’re going to opt for the higher price plan you will have to talk more and not text!
