When Konami’s popular 2D action-adventure game Castlevania: Harmon of Despair first arrived back in August last year, it was only available via Xbox Live Arcade. However, it looks as though that is all about to change, as we’ve just received word that the game is in fact heading to the PS3 this summer. What’s more is that the PlayStation 3 version will come with a few extra goodies.

According to a recent gamerant.com article by C.J. Smillie, the Castlevania: Harmony of Despair game will be available to download from the PlayStation Network for $15, although we don’t know the actually date of its release at this stage. When the title does arrive however, it will include both Yoko Belnades and Julius Belmont as playable characters right from the start.

This is of course an added bonus for PlayStation 3 owners, as the two aforementioned characters were only available via downloadable content for the Xbox 360. The Pyramid of Ruin level (also known as the ‘Beauty, Desire, Situation Dire’ map pack) will also be available upon purchase of the PS3 version. In addition to the six-player online co-op, PS3 owners will also receive 4-player local co-op.

Some of the other playable characters in the Castlevania: Harmony of Despair game includes Jonathan Morris, Shanoa, Alucard, Soma Cruz and Charlotte Aulin, who are all from previous 2D Castlevania titles. All of the characters have their own skills and signature attacks to use in battle. The game also features a map system that will enable players to view the current quest map’s entire setup.

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair also features a versus mode where battle ensues between players, and a grimoire placed in certain parts of each level, which is the only way that players can change equipment and items during mid-game. The game received mixed reviews when it was launched last year, with ratings ranging from a disappointing 4 out of 10 right up to 8/10.

GameSpot gave the Castlevania: Harmony of Despair title an overall score of 7.5/10, noting that multiplayer is the best way to experience the game. Resolution Magazine said that they were disappointed with the game’s ‘somewhat fiddly gameplay’ and the fact that it only has six stages, and concluded their review with a score of 6/10. Eurogamer on the other hand only gave it 4 out of 10.

Will you be purchasing the Castlevania: Harmony of Despair game on the PS3?

For those of you that were expecting to see the Reverie DLC on your consoles today we have some sad news that might explain why you have not got it yet. In an earlier post we told you that the release date would be today’s date, however developers have had to push this date back but have not specified a new date.

One of the Konami producers have put this down to a “last minute issue”, “Sadly it’s delayed due to a last minute issue which we hope to have fixed shortly. Working with the Xbox team to resolve,” Cox said. There has been no word of another release date for the add-on and we are not sure how long this ‘problem’ will take to correct.

We would assume that the problem could not have been major seeing as the game would have been near completion. let’s just hope that the release date is not pushed back too far. We will have to keep you posted on the situation.

We were expecting to hear more regarding the Resurrection DLC for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, however with the Reverie release date pushed back we don’t expect to hear much regarding Resurrection for quite some time

Keep checking in at Product-Reviews and we will do our utmost to keep you up-to-date with all of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, hopefully Konami won’t keep us waiting too long.

Were you one of the people planning to buy Reverie today?

In an earlier post we published an article giving you details of new DLC for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow with a release date which, however a later post then confirmed that it has been delayed, today Joystiq confirm that the developers have given us a definate release date on one part of the DLC and they’ve also thrown in a trailer to prove it.

Reverie is the name that Xbox and Playstation owners will be keen to look out for on March 30 as they continue their battle against evil in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The DLC is only one of two packs announced and will be available at a price of 800 Microsoft Points $10.

The Reverie DLC release date mentioned above is for European games, no US date has been confirmed, however we imagine that the US release date will be very similar. The content will pick up from where gamers left off in their campaign but will pose an even darker threat than the one faced before.

The trailer below should be sufficient enough for now to get you excited for the date, check out the video and tell us what you think of the new story in the game, does it attract you to buying the DLC this month?

For those of you who are planning to pick up Castlevania Lord of Shadows on either the Xbox 360 or PS3, we have some screenshot comparison images for you to take a look at.

The screenshots come to us courtesy of LensOfTruth, and they were taken from the demo build of the game, meaning that this might not be the final retail version released.

Anyway, there are a collection of images for you to look at, each comparing the same background on the two different platforms. You’ll find the images over at LensofTruth, you have to hover your mouse over the image in the bottom right corner, to see the relevant platform differences.

Unless I’m going blind, there really isn’t too many differences between the two. Perhaps the Xbox 360 version features brighter colors, but you could then argue that the PS3 visuals are more realistic towards the ‘dark’ feel to the game. There is nothing major to tell these two apart – which is obviously a great thing for gamers who own both consoles.

Take a look at the images yourself and let us know your thoughts on them. Can you spot any differences?
