So far this year Nikon has been grabbing all the headlines with regards to new DSLR cameras with the D4 and D800 being announced. Now today we have the news that rival manufacturer Canon have revealed the EOS 5D Mk III DSLR, which has been priced and dated.

The new model from Canon has been highly anticipated and it has now been unveiled by the company along with availability and pricing. This new model replaces the hugely successful EOS 5D Mark II and as Digital Trends is reporting should be available by the end of this month.

Canons new DSLR features a brand new 22.3 megapixel full frame CMOS senor, which compares to the 21.1 megapixels the Mk II has. There is also a high performance DIGIC 5+ imaging processor along with a 61-point High Density Reticular AF system, which are both used in the Canon 1D X.

This new model can achieve continuous image shooting of up to six fps, which is an improvement of fifty percent over the old model. Canon has announced their new camera to coincide with the 25th anniversary of its successful EOS camera system. It also has improved weather resistance that will please those who would use it outdoors a lot.

The ISO range goes from 100 through to 25,600 using the standard range, but users can also bring this down to 50 or ramp it all the way up to 51,200 and 102,400. Most users will never need this but as Canon said in its press release you might if you use the camera for law enforcement or forensics.

Round the back of the Mk III you will find a 1,040,000-dot 3.2-inch LCD display, which again comes from the Canon 1D X. The screen allows users to display two images side by side that is a first for a camera in the EOS range.

The new model offers dual memory card inputs that have CF and SD/SDHC/SDXC capability, as well as offer various options how they are used. The viewfinder offers one hundred percent coverage so users get to see the whole image as they press the shutter button.

Canons Mk II model has been hugely successful with users around the world for taking video, and the company is hoping extra features in the new model will continue this trend. These features include improved noise reduction, up to 30 minutes recording time, and built-in headphone jack for that all important monitoring of the audio. It can also take 1080p HD video content at 24, 25 or 30 fps.

The Canon EOS 5D Mk III DSLR is set to be available by the end of the month and will cost $3,499 for the body only, and the kit with the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM zoom lens for $4,299. The company has also announced a number of new accessories for their new shooter, which includes the Battery Grip BG-E11.

This is an optional accessory for the EOS 5D MK III that can accept one or two LP-E6 lithium-ion battery packs, or six AA batteries. The new grip features a multi-controller with a multi-function button, which has a full set of controls that allows for easy operation when taking portraits and other vertical format images.

The unit is manufactured from a strong magnesium alloy that offers the same weather protection as the EOS 5D Mark III itself, and will be available for $490. There is also the Speedlite 600EX-RT that is the first professional Speedlite on the market. This will be ideal for wedding portraits and photojournalism and available for $629.99. Canon has also announced the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT priced at $470. For more information on the new accessories head over to the Canon website here.

If you consider yourself to be a camera fan, you may want to check out Canon’s latest model. The EOS-1D X camera is an excellent choice for professional photographers and the new snapper will be available to buy during early March next year.

The EOS-1DX will be targeting those with money to burn, as we’re hearing that the price will enter at around £5299, meaning that those of you who are looking for a more casual option at a cheaper price may want to look for an alternative.

Externals of the EOS-1D X are made using magnesium alloy materials, while there’s also a nifty weather sealing all over the camera as well, reports Pocket-Lint. If you have owned Canon’s previous 1D model, it’s important to know that the weight of the new 1D X is apparently the same, meaning that it is going to be quite heavy to carry around during daily usage.

As for the display, you’ll be able to enjoy a reflective, high-resolution Clear View II LCD screen with 1,040k-dot 3.2 inch, which is capable of capturing stunning photos thanks to the included 18.1 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor. If you want to use the EOS-1D X to shoot video, you’ll be able to produce films in full 1080p video at either 24, 25 and 30fps – you can also record footage at 50 and 60fps in 720p as well which is pretty impressive.

If you’re interested in picking up Canon’s new flagship camera, head to Pocket-Lint for further details and some great sample images and video. How many of you own the EOS-1D? – Is it worth paying the extra money for the upgrade based on your current model? We’ve included a video below for you showing just how quick the camera can capture 12 and 14FPS images using the EOS-1D X’s included DIGIC 5+ processors – check it out and give us your thoughts on it.

Since the release of the iPhone 4S there has been a number of tests done to compare it to rival handsets, such as performance, toughness and also the quality of the camera. However, we thought that the camera side of things needed to be explored more, not with taking stills but 1080P video. Now the usual test would be to look at other smartphones, but that’s not original enough, but a comparison with the Canon EOS 5D MKII SLR is.

It’s a shame that one of the best features on the new iPhone is the camera, as we were hoping for so much more, such as a design change and improved battery. However, we will have to wait for the iPhone 5 to improve on the design, and as for the battery, well just read this to get you up to speed with the issues.

There are a number of ways how you can test the camera or video on the 4S, but we have to say that this is an inventive one. There have been major advancements to the camera, such as increasing from 5 to 8-megapixles, improved lens and also 1080P video recording. To further increase quality Apple decided to put in image stabilization software, which should put an end to shaky-cam – well almost.

Redmond Pie wanted to know just how good the video camera was, so an elaborate test was in order. You can see the results for yourself in the video below, and the results are shocking. The camera in the iPhone 4S performs very well, and what makes it even better is that you are more likely to capture those golden moments more than you can with the Canon EOS 5D MKII, because you will have it with you most times.

Whenever Canon update their EOS-1D range of SLR cameras you will be forgiven for thinking that you are looking at a clone of the previous model. However, it’s not until you get on the inside that things change, as the new X model is phenomenally powerful – much like the iPhone 4 and 4S in that respect. The specs are astounding, but the high price will shock you.

The Canon EOS-1D X is an 18-megapixel shooter with a full-frame sensor, the clever use of oversized pixels means that you get an image that has much less noise than ever before. To further enhance image quality there are two Digic 5+ imaging processors. There are other factors involved when taking a good photo, and the EOS-1D X has the lot.

Some of the main specs include, 252-zone metering system, ISO setting of 204,000, 61-point high-density reticular AF system, 3.2-inch 1,040,000-dot LCD, 1080P video capture and so much more. Some of you may wonder why Canon has named their latest and greatest X; well this is now their tenth-generation professional SLR.

The price for this camera will be $6,800 when it goes on sale in March 2012, so still a long time to go then. Just try not to spend too much over Christmas, as it could affect your decision making when buying this expensive shooter. For full details and a complete list of specs and features read the Canon press release.

Are you thinking about buying a new inkjet photo printer: If you are, then we have some news that could well be of interest to you. Canon U.S.A. has recently unveiled two brand new printers, the PIXMA MG5320 and the PIXMA iP4920, which both include upgrades to the pre-loaded Full HD Movie Print and Canon Easy PhotoPrint EX software.

If you’re looking for a multi-function printer, then the Canon PIXMA MG5320 wireless photo all-in-one printer might be just the model for you. As noted over on the macnews.com website, the Canon PIXMA MG5320 – which is priced up at $149.99 – comes with 5 individual ink tanks, and is capable of producing a borderless 4 x 6-inch photo in about 20 seconds.

The PIXMA MG5320 also boasts a 3-inch LCD screen, a maximum color resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi and Advanced Media Handling options such as a two-way paper feed and Auto Duplex printing. As for print speeds, the MG5320 is reportedly capable of delivering output at approximately 12.5 ipm for black-and-white documents, and around 9.3 ipm for color.

However, if you are looking for a printer that’s slightly cheaper, then the Canon PIXMA iP4930 might be more for you. The iP4920 inkjet photo printer also comes with five individual ink tanks (which are part of the ChromaLife 100 + ink system) and a maximum color resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi. The iP4920 has the exact same print speeds as the PIXMA MG5320.

The iP4920 is also capable of producing a 4 x 6-inch borderless photo in about 20 seconds. This model also comes with the Auto Duplex printing feature, which helps users conserve paper. Since it was first launched, the Easy PhotoPrint EX software has helped users to get the most out of their prints by allowing them to create stickers, albums and calendars etc.

This upgraded version on the other hand has added Fun Filter Effects, which are similar to the scene modes found on the company’s PowerShot digital cameras. Fun Filter Effects enable users to customize their images with different effects such as Toy Camera, Miniature and Fish Eye. Users also have the option of changing the focus of the image so it appears softer.

As we mentioned earlier, the Full HD Movie Print software has also received an upgrade, and should now producer clearer images of frames from videos that have been captured on any compatible HD Canon PowerShot or EOS digital camera. The software includes a new layout feature that will enable users to print up to 72 images on one sheet of paper.

Canon has recently launched a new firmware update for the Canon EOS 60D digital SLR, this update will bring your camera to firmware version 1.0.9 and brings some minor changes / fixes to to the camera.

Firstly and most unimportantly you will see that the “Art Filters” feature has disappeared, don’t worry though as it hasn’t been removed it has just been renamed to “Creative Filters”, this change only applies to Japanese versions of the camera.

Another of the fixes rectifies a pretty uncommon problem which occurs when “set to Quick Mode AF during Live View shooting immediately after capturing an image with the C.Fn II-1 Long exposure noise reduction setting set to [2: On] and a shutter speed setting of 5 seconds or more”, sometimes the camera would act abnormally, however now this shouldn’t be a problem.

Finally another minor problem should no longer exist, sometimes after Live View shooting and switching on the EOS Utility screen the camera would act abnormally, this has now been fixed.

You can download this new firmware update here, the full changelog and installation instructions can also be found via the same link.

Have you installed firmware version 1.0.9 on your Canon EOS 60D? If so have you noticed any other improvements?

We already discussed with you that Canon were updating their rebel DSLR range, well they are doing the same with their PowerShot compact models as well. The news model are the SX230 HS and the SX220 HS, the former offering built-in GPS – the first compact from the camera make to do so – and a choice of five different colors.

No longer will you have to use a separate geotag device, now the SX230 does it all for you; allowing you to tag your photos and upload them to Flickr and Picasa and Google Maps. HS means high sensitivity, so you know that Canon has made a number of improvements to its flagship compact.

Rival cameras like this offer 14x optical, so we were surprised when Crave reported that the SX230 only comes with 12x – maybe they thought that using too much zoom affects the quality of an image with a compact? Having said that, the 3-inch screen and Full HD 1080p video recording more than makes up for it.

Some of the key features include: 12.1-megapixel, 32 Smart Auto settings, High-speed burst, Manual Control, Waterproof Case and much more. Like the Rebel T3 and T3i, the PowerShot SX220 HS and SX230 will be released in March; although we have no idea of their price.

What Digital Camera has got up close and personal with the SX230, so is able to offer more insight into some of this latest technology that canon has packed in.

Does it matter that the Canon PowerShot SX230 only has a 12x optical zoom?

Canon have been very busy of late, they are about to launch the new Powershot SX-230 HS, which we will get to in another post. First we thought we would look at two new DSLR cameras that are coming to market, the T3 (1100D) and T3i (600D). It will be interesting to learn a little more about what specs these two have, as I am about to make the jump from compact to DSLR.

The T3 is Canon’s entry level Rebel and will ship in March at a price of $599.99, which will give you 12.2-megapixels and an 18-55mm lens, which as you may well know is just a starter lens to get things started. If you are about to make the move from compact, then just stick with this one lens for now – just until you get the hang of things. The T3 or 1100D what most people will know the camera as will have an ISO range of 100 to 6,400.

Engadget was also able to get some details on the upcoming Canon Rebel T3i, and will be the successor to the 500D. Again, this camera will launch in March, but will come with a price tag of $799.99 for the body only. The same lens as the T3 has will cost another $100 on top – not bad really.

This model also has the same ISO range, but we can see that there is also a DIGIC 4 Imaging processor and integrated Speedlite settings. We can already see that things are far more complicated on Rebel T3i, but this is no entry level DSLR. Read the press release from Canon here.

Devin Coldewey from CrunchGear thinks that consumers should go with the T2i rather than the new T3, this is only because it has a better lens option as part of the bundle. What do you think?

We brought you the news recently that Canon was replacing their highly regarded EOS 50D DSLR with a new updated model, the EOS 60D. The new Canon DSLR leaves a question mark over the Rebel T2i as it is only $200 cheaper.

Ross Miller of Engadget is reporting that – Chad Mumm – Engadget’s Show producer managed to get his hands on an EOS 60D at the Canon 2010 Expo. In a video he mentions how well built the camera feels when handling it. The new flip out LCD screen is shown, and likes the fact it can be moved into a variety of positions.

He goes on to point out the camera now has a dedicated movie mode, and the wheel that is used to chose all the different modes locks into position. When the movie mode is selected it changes the menu settings, so it is more specific for that mode. The different menus for the movie mode are then run through.

A great feature in the still picture mode is demonstrated, which has the option for the user to change the aspect ratio of the image. To check out the video of this great looking camera use the link above.
