For some videographers the Canon 5D Mark III is considered the best for the job, and if you thought the DSLR could not get any better, then guess again as there’s a new firmware add-on doing just that. Okay, this is not the news you want to be hearing, as so many of you are waiting for the release of the Canon 70D, but this does help to alleviate some of the anticipation.

The new Canon 5D Mark III firmware add-on is from the same people who gave us Magic Lantern, and you’ll now be able to shoot at 24 fps RAW video, and an increased resolution up to 1,920 x 820 pixels by using 1000x speed cards. You can see both examples of these in action with the two videos below.

Being able to capture RAW video at 24 fps not only helps to improve resolution but dynamic range as well, then there is the added benefit of greater flexibility in post-production. However, this firmware ad-on is a long way from perfect, as more work needs to be done before it is deployed fully.

While it’s nice to see further work going on to help improve the Canon 5D Mark III, let’s face it, what we really want to see is the Canon 7D Mark II. However, its release in 2013 is not looking so good, if we are to believe a recent report.

According to Canon Rumors the 7D Mark II is not going to be released until 2014 now. However, the Canon 70D release is due this year, although we still have no idea when this will be. As a way to make it up to you, Canon is also expected to release several new lenses this year, again we have no specific release date.

With all the rumors regarding the Canon 70D release date possibilities, we seem to have taken our eye of other potential new cameras from the brand. We say this because there is a chance that 2013 could see an update to the Canon EOS M.

The particular model was not well received because of issues with autofocus, lack of lenses and the biggest issue of all, bad press. However, all that could be about to change, because Canon could be about to prove that they are committed to the mirrorless market, which is something they have been accused of not being in the past.

If a recent report is correct, then we could see a new Canon EOS M in 2013, and a higher-end version as well. These models could finally prove that Canon still wants to make a success of the range, and knowing that the Canon EOS M lens range could be increased is great news.

There is said to be 3 new Canon EOS M lenses in 2013, and could help give the range more of a fighting chance against that M4/3 and NEX. Going back to one of the issue of the M model above, a new autofocus system would be the first thing that Canon rectifies.

The Canon EOS 650D has been on the market since June 2012, and is known by the Rebel T4i in the US and has since been succeeded by the 700D (T5i), which was recently released in India. Some of you have had a bit of a dilemma because they were unsure if they should choose the older model over the new.

However, in most cases it comes down to price, as well as if the features are worth paying the extra for the newer version, and some of you have said they would rather go with the 650D. This is a good choice, as there is a good number of accessories to go with this 10-month old camera.

If you are loyal to the brand, then we thought we would point you in the direction of some Canon 650D lenses, which as you know could end up costing you more than the camera body. However, once you have these lenses you can use them on several other DLSR cameras from the brand, so look at it as an investment.

There’s far more than just a handful of lenses for the 650D, which shows that you will find it very easy to find what you need, unlike those of chose to go with the Sony a series. It’s hard to know what lens I should pick out for you, as we bet there’s a good chance it will not be the ones that you want.

It’s for this reason why we would like to point you in the direction of Lens Hero, where they have listed a huge choice of Canon 650D lenses, all with scores with how they compare. Key features they have reviewed are image stabilization, length, weight, zoom range and much more. However, more importantly they have also detailed the pricing for each 650D lens.

Any decent photographer will know that when they have a decent sling strap for their camera, they then have a dilemma, as they will need to move the accessory if they wish to put their DSLR onto a tripod. You can keep attaching and detaching both accessories, although this could cause wear.

Thankfully, with the help of a Kickstarter project help could be at hand with the Fusion Plate, which if all goes well could be released in time and be an ideal Canon 70D accessory, once Canon decide to unveil the new model that is.

The Fusion Plate will help unite these two accessories, so photographers do not have to keep swapping their shoulder strap attachment loop onto their tripod mounting plate and then have to remove it when they need to attach your camera onto the tripod.

This is an ingenious solution that gives you the best of both worlds, and there is also less risk that your attachment loop will unthread itself, which could often result in dropping your camera.

You can get a closer look at how it works in the video below, or if you are unable to view the video in our app, then you can view it here.

In the video you see the Fusion Plate being attached to a Canon 7D, so it would also be ideal for the 70D, which is expected to be released a little later this year. As yet we have no idea when this camera will be released, as there is still 25 days of funding to go on the Kickstarter website. However, we can tell you that the project has already raised $9,328, and their goal was $7,500.

The price will vary on color, the black Fusion Plate will cost $75 and the red and blue $85. Maybe the price will go down once the accessory goes into full production?

When the Canon 700D was released last month the price did not come as a major shock to us, and so when the DSLR was release in India, we expected a slight difference in the cost. However, the Canon 700D price in India seems to be rather respectable.

The price of the Canon EOS 700D for the Indian market is INR 53,995.00, which converts to just over $995 or just over £650. While the 700D (also known as the Canon T5i in the US) is not any cheaper in India, it’s not much more expensive either, which has been the case with other electronics in the county.

It seems as though Canon is doing their best to bring down prices of consumer electronics in India, as this is a very important market for them, as well as other brands. We have already seen Apple India do very well with the iPhone in India, but they still need to drive prices down, which is why there is a call for a Budget iPhone.

Going back to the Canon 700D, it’s not a vast improvement over the 650D, so you might still consider the latter if you are not worried about having the most up-to-date specs if price is more of a factor, as there are some great deals to be had right now.

Canon India is offering the 700D body only for now, and we have no idea how long it will be before a kit will become available, but we would not expect it to be too long. Maybe they are waiting to see how popular the new DSLR is before they offer the body and lens, as well as other kits first?

What we do find strange is that Canon India is charging more for the 600D body only than its successor.

Earlier this month there was a rumor suggesting that the Canon 70D release could be sooner than expected, as a Canon press event was said to be taking place on April 23, 2013. The report seemed convincing enough, but we still had reason to doubt this because of several 70D predecessors never launched at this time of year.

We cannot say for certain how much truth there is to this latest news, as Canon Rumors has learned the Canon EOS 70D unveil rumored to happen on April 23 will not happen, although they do point out this could be for another camera. This makes us wonder what new Canon model we can expect to see in less than a week’s time?

The Canon 70D release may not happen until October, with its unveil during August, as these were the months that coincide with the unveils and releases of the 60D and 50D. We know things can change, and proof of this is because the 70D is considered to be a year late, but we still cannot see Canon changing the month they have released this DSLR range.

Expected Canon 70D specs are to include a 18-megapixel sensor, the same as the SL1, 6.5fps, WiFi and GPS, 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen display, but we do not know if this will be able to swivel. We expect the Canon 70D body to be made from magnesium alloy and be weatherproof.

The Canon 70D price is expected to be about $1199 for the body only, which could be slightly larger than the 60D.

Do you believe Canon will announce the release of the 70D soon, or will it be a little later in the year? Would you agree those specs mentioned above are correct, if not what features do you think are more plausible?

Last month it was assumed Canon would unveil their 60D successor, but this never happened. Since then we took a little look at why the new DSLR has yet to be announced, but we could have been wrong. We say this because it looks as though the Canon EOS 70D official debut could take place during a press event later this month.

While no invitations have been released just yet, Canon Rumors has it on good authority that invites will start to appear shortly. Over the months there has been a great deal of speculation as to the Canon EOS 70D specs, and it’s clear to see that the camera will get a much-needed bump over its successor.

However, from what we can make out from all the rumored Canon EOS 70D features, the only thing we can be pretty certain of is a 18 megapixel sensor, which is the same used in the SL1. Having said that, we are sure you have a few ideas of what you would like to see when the 70D is finally released.

As for the Canon EOS 70D release date, we cannot be certain when this will be, but we don’t expect it to be for several months yet. Although, there will be a few consumers who will not like this one little bit, as they believe there is now far too many cameras to choose from, but would you agree with this?

Personally this is a stupid rant, because you are not forced to buy these new models, and there is also nothing better than choice when it comes to choosing the right DSLR for you.

The Canon press event is expected to take place on April 23, 2013, so let’s hope we learn of the new features and also that all-important Canon EOS 70D price – that’s if the rumor is true.

Last month Canon unveiled the EOS 100D and the EOS 700D (Rebel SL1 and T5i, when what we really wanted to see was the debut of the Canon 70D, although we have since looked a little more closely into its expected release date. Anyway, back to the two DSLR cameras that will become available to purchase later this month.

Some of you would have already made the decision as to what model you will be getting, but for those of you who are undecided, then we hope these two video reviews can help you decide. These Canon EOS 100D and 700D reviews offer a comparison of their features and performance, in the hope of helping you make the right choice.

For those who do not know, the 700D is the flagship EOS camera now, with Canon stating that it is their most advanced EOS yet. They also claim the 100D is the smallest DSLR yet, although they have not compromised on the technology crammed inside such a small body.

In the first video review of the EOS 100D (Rebel SL1) and the EOS 700D (Rebel T5i) below it’s easy to see how informative it all is, although we find the review a little boring. We say this because there’s just no excitement in the review, although you’ll certainly learn most of what you need to know to reach an informed decision between the two.

The second video is a little better and drew us in right away, well the lady is very pleasing on the eye. However, we love how the review not only discusses the differences between both cameras, but also makes use of diagrams to help explain some of their features.

So which of the two gets your vote, the cameras not the videos?

If you are on the lookout for a new professional camcorder that offers next-generation technology, then Canon believe they have the answer for you in the way of the new XA20 HD and XA25 HD video cameras. A brief review of the specs reveals these devices will impress the user due to their specialized features and optics, all of which have been packed into a compact design.

These camcorders are not for consumers, but more for those on a business level. However, we’re sure one or two technology websites might consider the Canon XA20 or XA25 HD to take with them to events such as CES. What will make these devices more appealing to a potential buyer is how light they are considering the technology packed inside.

Speaking of that technology, both models come with various shooting-assist functions as well as greater key components, which includes Canon’s newly developed wide-angle 20x HD zoom lens. This new feature will allow you to record in conditions where light is at a minimum.

The zoom has increased from 10x on the XA10 to 20x on the XA20 and XA25 HD camcorders. Both now come with a brighter 3.5-inch OLED display and built-in WiFi has also been included, allowing you to upload your recorded footage direct to services such as YouTube.

Overall the design has not changed from their predecessors, and the only difference between the XA20 and the XA25 is the latter comes with a HD-SDI terminal. The price for the XA20 HD professional camcorder will be $2,499.00 and the cost of the XA25 HD will be $2,999.00 when released in June.

Thanks to Canon.

There’s been several rumors where the Canon 70D release date would have been announced last month, but this did not happen. As you would expect there will now be expectation of the camera maker unveiling the 70D this month instead, but after getting drawn in already, we thought we would look a little further into it.

Okay, we would have hoped to see the release or at least the Canon 70D being debuted shortly after the Nikon D7100 release, but if we were to look at the release dates for to 70D predecessors then we get to see another picture, and it’s not good if you were hoping to see Canon’s 60D successor soon.

Firstly there’s the Canon 40D, which was announced on August 20, 2007, and released later that month. This was then followed by the 50D, which was unveiled on August 26, 2008 and was not released until October. Finally there is the 60D, announced on August 26, 2010 and released on October 15 in that year.

We can see a small pattern appear, which does not look good if you were hoping to see the Canon 70D unveiled within the next few weeks, as it looks as though we will have to wait until August at least. Something else that we find a little strange, the 70D seems to be a year late, although there was a EOS 60Da released to help tide us over until Canon got to work on a completely new model.

The Canon 70D specs will certainly be of a great interest to you, and there have already been several rumors as to what we can expect to see, although we’re sure you will have to pay the price, because new features will surely cost more if we are to go by other camera releases?
