When consumer electronics design their products they do it for a number of reasons. However, the designers themselves have one goal in mind, and that is to be recognized at the International Forum Design Awards (iF). Well, the people at Sony certainly have something to celebrate, not only did they win four gold’s, but another 22 to go with it.

The four prestigious ‘Gold Awards’ were for the Handycam NEX-VG10, “α” NEX-5 digital camera, BRAVIA NX800 TV Series and finally the VPL-FX500L / VPL-FX30 projectors. What makes these awards even better is how they represent four key areas where Sony excel. So what is so special about these four devices?

The “α” NEX-5 shows how Sony is not afraid of change; we have also seen this with their new Alpha Series Translucent Mirror technology cameras. There are still a huge percentage of consumers out there who wants a DSLR, but do not want a camera so large. However, the “α” NEX-5 makes it possible to have the same quality as a DSLR, but at a fraction of the size.

Next we have the BRAVIA NX800 Series, and you do not need to be a design expert to know that you are looking at something very special. Over the years there have been a number TVs hit the market that could be mistaken for one another. However, this is something that Sony has never been guilty of, and the NX800 taking gold is proof of that.

The Handycam NEX-VG10 has evolved over 25 years; Sony shock us each year with their innovations. What makes this particular model so special are those interchangeable lenses, as well as its 14.2 effective megapixel sensor.

Finally we have the VPL-FX500L / VPL-FX30 projectors, and are not to be mistaken for those cheap ones that you can move from one room to another, as you see fit. These two devices are made to stay where they have been installed, such as boardrooms, auditoriums etc.

For more details read the Sony’s full press release.

Do you think that Sony deserves to take these four gold awards?

We have reported on digital cameras in the past, including the Nikon Coolpix S205, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 and the Cannon PowerShot SX30. Now we wanted to inform you of another camera, one that is in another league to those aforementioned, lets look at why.

This is the world’s highest resolution camera, it’s called the Leaf Aptus II; it has 80-mega pixels and a 3.5” touch screen. Onto the really amazing part, the pictures can come out at 10,320 x 7,752. Each picture will take up around 480MB of space. All sounds pretty impressive; the only downside to the device is its cost, retailing at $32,000.

The Leaf Aptus II has actually been in development for a while, if you want to read its full specs then click here. If you want to learn more about the camera’s uses then head over to their official site here. They even have an interactive view of the Aptus II, you can look at it from just about all angles. We have found a demo video of the camera being used; you can see this at the bottom of the article.

What are your thoughts on this device? A little bit on the expensive side? If you are a professional photographer then perhaps this may be a worthwhile investment. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

BenQ are certainly expanding their product expertise, we have already reported to you that they have some new LED monitors in the V2400 and V2200 as well as an E1260 HDR camera’s details. Now BenQ are looking to expand on their S range of digital cameras.

The company are introducing a new S1420 14 mega pixel beast of a digital camera, it has a 5x optical zoom, and a 26mm wide-angle lens. The camera is compact a 3” LCD with HDR that gives you a realistic view of the photo’s you are taking.

The S1420 range of shooting modes that include Color Accent, LOMO and my favorite style, Fisheye. The Fisheye lens will give you a photo with curved edges with the rest of it being distorted. Color Accent is another interesting style of photography, you can set it to keep one single color on a picture and then turn the rest to black and white and LOMO adds a range of effects that you can choose from. You can read more about the effects over at the official BenQ site by clicking here. See here for examples of fisheye and here for color accent photography.

For those of you that may not have heard of Anti-Shake technology, it is something that helps you to take clear pictures every time. It’s an automatic feature that will help if you move slightly when taking the picture. We all know that happens every now and then and how frustrating it can be. Well done to BenQ for taking that annoyance out of the equation.

So far I haven’t seen a price and Engadget.com’s Darren Murphy says he thinks it will be somewhere between cheap and affordable. We are waiting on a confirmed price so if you are looking for a camera now then it may be worth having a look on BenQ’s official site and seeing if they have an alternative for you, click here to view the global site’s products and navigate to the digital camera section.

What do you think of BenQ’s S1420 digital camera? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Earlier this year we brought you details on two new DSLR cameras from Canon. The first we mentioned was the Rebel T2i and its specs and release date, then the announcement of the new EOS 60D. Now I can bring you a review on the new Canon PowerShot SX30 IS.

An article written by Ben Sillis over at electricpig.co.uk tells us of his hands-on with the SX30 IS, which is said to have an impressive optical zoom of 35x, and it will magnify up to a maximum 144x digital whilst offering a study feel to the barrel.

The SX30 IS packs a 14-megapixel sensor, which captures enough detail for large prints, and is capable of high-definition 720p video with the dedicated record button above the 2.7-inch swivelling LCD screen. This model also offers image Stabilisation plus much more.

Have you had a play with the new Canon PowerShot SX30 IS, if so what are your thoughts?

We wrote about the new iPod touch 4 with camera a few days ago, and most readers welcomed the Apple rumors that included a microphone and camera. We listed the new iPod touch 4th generation (4G) features that are expected, and noted how the latest update will replace even more gadgets.

In the last hour Gizmodo has also admitted that the device will be a “Gadget Killer”, and then explained their reasons with a personal story. The situation included someone moving to France who had their Verizon Wireless contract coming up for renewal, and the article explained the reasons why her situation needed a new iPod touch with a camera; you can read the full story on Gizmodo in this article.

With the iPod touch being the only iPod with sales still increasing, which has no real competition, it’s the perfect answer to give the consumer a device that will replace even more gadgets. This could give many phone users the choice to have any basic phone, and an iPod touch 4G that will replace so many gadgets thanks to improved specs like dual cameras, and more.

Will the iPod touch replace your gadgets? Do you agree with Gizmodo that the new iPod touch will be a serial killer?

Compro Technology has launched the VideoMate IP70 day and night network camera for indoor use only. The new camera features some amazing technology, such as HD resolution and true infrared (IR) lighting. The new device is ideal for use in the home or a business establishment.

If you have an office or run a bar or club, then the high performance H.264 IP camera could be just what you need. The 7 days surveillance day or night camera has a light sensor that activates the IR LEDs for nighttime use; these will then turn off automatically when lighting conditions becomes brighter.

To make things simpler for those who are not technically minded, the inclusion of iWizard allows you to run applications easier than ever. To help things run smoothly for day-to-day use, there is the IE based video management software called WebVUer.
