When I was just a young boy the only brand of camcorder that really mattered was JVC, as they had the best build quality. However, things have changed a lot since then, and there are new boys on the block that competes with this once great brand. However, once in a while the old dog will come out and show its teeth once more, which is just what they have done with the announcement of the GC-PX10 hybrid camera.

There have already been a few early reviews of this new device, and one thing is certain, consumers will be paying the price to have a two-in one device. When you start to study the images of the JVC GC-PX10 (see here) you get the feeling that it is going through some sort of identity crisis. On one hand it looks like a camera, but then that huge lens body makes you think of a video camera.

JVC will say that this is the best of both, as you will not only get great moving shots, but stills as well. Full 1080P HD, 60fps and 8.3-megapixels are all proof that it is a more than capable device, but will it ever catch-on? We have seen camcorders come to market that say that it can also take stills, but consumers are not fooled, and will also want a separate device for each.

This is where the GC-PX10 will fail, as the quality of photos taken are good, but not mind blowing. However, for those who want to take some great family videos and photos, then this could be the answer. Now comes the price, JVC is expected to ship the hybrid camcorder in October, which will cost about $900.

Now, if you were to do some digging you will be able to get a separate video camera and digital camera for around the same price. They will both do a much better job, but then there is the hassle of carrying them around, and also the fear that you have not charged the battery on one. The decision is down to you, would you trade of features and quality in favor of practicality?

JVC is to launch the Everio GS-TD1, a Full HD 3D recording camcorder, which we first learned about at the end of last year. This is the first of its kind and can record two Full HD images at the same time; this is done with the use of two lenses and sensors. Do not expect it to be cheap; the price that you will pay once released in March will be Rs. 91,000 ($1,999.95).

Tech Know Bits has now been able to digest the details of the new JVC camcorder since it was last seen at CES, so thought they would point out some of its key features. Some of the main specs include 5x optical zoom lens – not much but certainly more than enough for the average user.

The biggest feature that we need to tell you about is the way that you do not need to use any 3D glasses while watching what you have shot. As this is a HD camcorder – 3D at that – the 64GB of storage is a must have. However, this can also bee expanded with the use of an SD/SDHC/SDXC card.

SlashGear said that it was too hard to tell just how good the JVC Everio GS-TD1 Camcorder was with the short amount of time they got to play with the device. However, the early signs are promising, but they need to be, as the likes of Sony and Panasonic will not be that far behind.

Is the 3D recording on this camcorder a gimmick, or is it a feature that you will use?
