Call of Duty 4 improvements in Playstation 3 update 2.42
July 30, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

Following on from the post earlier about the new Sony PS3 firmware update 2.42. We now see a few improvements in gameplay on Call of Duty 4.
Many gamers have reported different problems to PR about COD4 and we have experienced some of these ourselves. The “Downloading Game Settings” screen has hanged for us a few times and we have also experienced the very annoying game disconnects thanks to players leaving.
One gamer had this to say on PR after updating to the new Playstation 3 2.42 firmware:
Hi, I have just downloaded it and I can’t see a difference expect in when I’m playing call of duty, it doesn’t say downloading game settings a lot only for a few seconds. I am also more connected and not getting games quit because I am disconnecting from the access point. This update has really helped me now I can finish matches without counting them as a loss with a few seconds to go
If you have updated to the new firmware, what improvements have you found in Call of Duty 4?

Since Sony PS3 2.41 Firmware: Call of Duty 4 Crashes
July 9, 2008 by Daniel

We have all heard about the problems of the Sony PS3 2.40 firmware update and the fact that Sony even pulled this update and went back to just 2.36. Personally I managed to update to 2.40 before they pulled it but as I mostly play Call of Duty 4, I did not see any problems with this firmware release.
Yesterday I updated to firmware 2.41 from 2.40, then after playing Call of Duty 4 for around 10 minutes it crashed when trying to go back to lobby after a game.
This is the first time COD4 has crashed on me and I have clocked up over 150 hours of game time, I thought nothing of it and forced my Playstation 3 to restart by turning the power off.
After another 30 minutes of gameplay, four friends decided to play a private match and on entering that game, COD4 crashed again on me.
Each time the crashes happened the PS3 completely froze, the only way to get access again was to turn the system off and on again.
While I have no way of knowing why these crashes happened, its strange they have happened after updating to firmware 2.41. Has anyone else had any problems with Call of Duty 4 and firmware 2.41 if they updated from 2.40?
Call of Duty 4: Larger burden on Sony PS3 than Xbox 360

Games like Call of Duty 4 run at a framerate of 60 frames per second on both systems. But Call of Duty 4 is a game that experienced technical problems with various bottlenecks due to the varying levels of action that occur on the screen. The game was originally designed to run at 60 frames per second at 720p, but it caused drops in the framerate.
The proof of this is the fact that Call of Duty 4 runs at a resolution of only 640p on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This may be “equal” in terms of what is displayed on the screen, but the FACT is that Call of Duty 4 is putting a much larger burden on the PS3 than it is the Xbox 360 Read more
How to fix Sony PS3 Call of Duty 4 connection problems
June 28, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

PS3 Daily have given a personal account of their experiences with Call of Duty 4 and the connection problems you get, they have wrote a detailed post about how they love the game but also have nothing but connection problems on the Sony PS3. The good news is they have found a way to fix this after presuming it to be a Tiscali problem.
While we know that many other COD4 gamers on the Tiscali broadband service have also reported this P2P problem, it must be true that Tiscali has some part to play or they would not have thousands of gamers complaining in their forums. The main problem is not with finding a game with people you do not know in COD4, but it seems to come from connecting to friends. As a Playstation 3 owner on BT, I have also seen this problem with certain friends but others seem to connect just fine.
Have you had any trouble connecting to your friends in Call of Duty 4 on the Sony PS3 or Xbox 360?
PS3 Daily is unsure if Tiscali still have the P2P problem as they said, “Are they still having problems? Let me explain, as said above playing online gamers allows me to connect and play away but playing friends is a no go. Well I have found a way to get connections all the time when you have troubles”. If they are able to get connected by changing a setting then surely it cannot be their ISP or can it?
The way they have found to get connected to friends in COD 4 seems very annoying and something I personally would not have fun doing, surely there is a better way. Maybe changing ISP’s could help. Visit PS3 Daily and see how they found a way to get connected and also let us know if you have any problems inviting friends for a game.
Will Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 gamers stop Call of Duty 4 for COD 5?
June 26, 2008 by Daniel

When I first got my hands on Call of Duty 4 (that’s a while ago now), I played the single player game for a few hours and loved it and then it all stopped. The reason for this was discovering the online gaming side of COD 4 and now I have never looked back, most of my gaming time goes to moving towards prestige 10. The reason many gamers love COD4 is for the fantastic online play, how good the action is and the fact that it’s modern combat.
Now with Call of Duty 5 insight and some gameplay should have been showed at Microsoft’s gaming event yesterday, we got to ask if Xbox 360 and Sony PS3 gamers will stop Call of Duty 4 for COD 5’s WWII game?
The moment we can get our hands on COD5 it will be played a lot. That said, if the World at War game is not as much fun online as COD4, then I could see myself moving back to COD4. Can you see yourself doing the same thing?
The reason we try new games is to see how good they are but if you enjoy another game much more then you would naturally play that instead. Just because a newer version of a game gets released it does not mean we have to drop the last version, you can see this with many games on the PC over the years, people still play Counter Strike.
Call of Duty 4 has been one of the biggest games ever to hit the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, it’s beat records of online play and we will have to see a very good COD5 to make a lot of gamers move on, well that’s unless they get bored of COD4.
Call Of Duty 4 on PC gets free map pack: nothing for Sony PS3 or Xbox 360
June 7, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, PC Games, Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Its easy to understand why the PC version of Call Of Duty 4 is getting some free maps, the free map pack is thanks to graphics card firm Nvidia. They want to say thanks to Activision for the COD4 game and also give something free to the community of gamers. Now as we do not buy graphics cards for the Xbox 360 or Sony PS3, that’s why console gamers will not get any free maps.
It’s a shame as I personally have bought a lot of gamers for the Playstation 3, as have many other gamers on the 360 and PS3. Its nice to get something free and lets hope Sony decide to give back to their community of gamers with some free maps (unlikely).
Nvidia made this statement “This is our way of saying thanks to Activision for an incredible game and also our way to give something back to the PC gaming community. Now go download it from nzone.com and I’ll see you online!”
If you own a GeForce card then its you they want to reward, you can download the free Variety Map Pack for Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on nzone.com…there is nothing like some new maps for a game that takes up all my gaming time.
Would you like more maps for the console version of COD4?

Call Of Duty 4 more successful on Xbox 360 than Sony PS3
June 5, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360

All the players of Call of Duty 4 know how good the game is and some of us don’t understand why we keep trying to move up the prestige ranks, but we keep playing and moving towards prestige rank 10. Today we are hearing that COD4 is one of the most successful games since 2000 and it sold over 10 million units, Cod4 is one of less than ten games that have ever reached that figure in the last eight years.
What did surprise me is to find out that Call Of Duty 4 has been more successful on the Xbox 360 than Sony PS3, although the head of the game’s developer Infinity Ward, Vince Zampella, will not release the exact number of COD4 games sold on each console, he did say “it had been most successful on Xbox 360”.
Call of Duty 4 was also voted as the global top seller of 2007, which is an amazing achievement. So if we had to guess, my opinion is that the Xbox 360 was “most successful” because more people own 360’s than ps3’s.
Let us know why you think the Xbox 360 had more success (guessing sales here) than the Sony Playstation 3 and if you agree that its down to more 360’s being in homes worldwide. Also if this is the case, will that always happen will a lot of games on both systems or could we see things change in the future?

Most Played Xbox 360 Live Game: not COD4 or Halo 3, Microsoft says GTA IV

Since moving from the Xbox 360 I do not miss the hardware at all, but Xbox Live is another question, it is a much better setup than the Sony PS3’s online service and well worth the price you have to pay each year, the biggest feature I miss is the way the online chat is so flexible.
In saying that, I will also point out that going back to the Xbox 360 is not an option. Microsoft has surprised many with, the director of product management for Xbox Live and the 360, Aaron Greenberg, saying that he feels it wouldn’t be a surprise to see GTA IV take the top spot on Xbox Live for most played game. Having played Halo 3 and the amount of people online was amazing when it was first released, followed by COD4 ruling the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 for online play. Now it looks like we may see a new leader, could it get the crown for most gamers online ever for a single game?
What would you rate as the best game out of Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV?
Aaron Greenberg went on to say that the multiplayer in GTA IV “is so well implemented that I can’t imagine anyone owning a copy without trying to play it on Xbox Live“, and that this game could bring many gamers that would not normally use Live.
Grand Theft Auto IV vs Call of Duty 4 on Sony PS3
April 28, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

This might seem a weird versus of video games at first, but the reason I compare them is because many gamers (Including myself) have spent well over 100 hours playing Call of Duty 4 on Sony PS3 (in my case) and the Xbox 360. Now at 9am in the morning I will have Grand Theft Auto IV for the Playstation 3 in my hands and then comes the decision of which game will get your time.
I have no doubt that in the short term I will be playing GTA 4 much more and I might not even play COD4 for many weeks, but what kind of lastability will GTA 4 have and will it live up to the expectations as you can see in Peter’s review earlier today?
So if we are talking “Gameplay”, how many gamers will COD4 lose over the rest of this year in favor of GTA 4? I think it will be a big number, it will not be the single player part of Grand Theft Auto, as most people will complete that very quickly, instead it’s the FIRST TIME multiplayer gameplay that will keep GTA 4 in the games consoles.
So in the question of long-term gameplay, will Call of Duty 4 or Grand Theft Auto IV win?
If you own COD4, let us know which game you think you will be playing the most in 3 months.
Learning New Call of Duty 4 Maps: Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers report
April 28, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360

It was great news for Sony PS3 owners that they did not have to wait as long as first thought for the new Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack, the early May Playstation 3 release date was changed to Thursday April 24th and this was for both North America and Europe. Some gamers reported not being able to see the download in the PSN store while others could, so it would have been rolled out across Europe and the U.S. in stages.
The last maps were very good but many Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers were crying out for more maps, on the old maps I was getting pretty good and would be in first or second place nine times out of ten. The new maps are another story, sadly I have only had time to play them for a few hours but I am certainly not in the top 3 places yet. It will take time to get to know all the areas of the maps and the good places to go where you can cover all your angles, but this is not the same for all gamers as some of you have already mastered the new maps.

My favorite looking map is Creek, this is just what COD4 needed and at the same time I find it the hardest to play as it could have its named changed to Sniper Country. Taking your time is surely key to playing Creek, but also not to run out in the open just to get snipered every 10 seconds. It will be the same as starting all over again for myself as I do take time to learn a new map, but when that happens things become much more easy.

If you have downloaded the new Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack, how are you finding them?
Do you have problems learning the new COD4 maps and what map is your favorite?
Hands-on: EzVision Video Eyewear on Sony PS3 playing Call of Duty 4

Being a massive gadget fan I could not wait to give the EzVision Original Video eye-wear a hands-on review, these so called glasses give a 50inch virtual screen on your head that can be connected to many AV sources including video iPods, portable DVD players and games consoles like the Sony PS3 in my review.
After opening up the box and thinking they looked really cool and something I have seen on Star Trek, I could not wait to connect them to my Sony PS3 and play Call of Duty 4 and this is just what I did. My first impressions are sadly not good, as soon as all was connected I placed the EzVision device on my head and it felt a nice fit until they rested on my nose, pain was the first feeling I got and this is from a device that only weighs 68g. Checking the power device was on the floor (which it was) the pain was still there, I handed them to a friend and my wife and they both also felt that the EzVision eyewear hurt their nose as well. After reading the box we found out the review product we had been sent did not include the two nose guards you’re meant to have Read more
Sony PS3 Call of Duty 4 1.30 Update, COD4 Map Pack & Double XP Weekend
April 24, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

Starting today and all weekend it’s a very special time for Call of Duty 4 gamers, not only did I turn on my Sony PS3 today and get a COD4 game update to version 1.30 (its 12MB) but I also find out that the Call of Duty 4 map pack due early May has been moved forward to today and it’s downloading right now. In the UK this costs £6.99 and you get four maps, which include Killhouse, ChinaTown, Broadcast and Creek.
The fun does not stop there as this weekend we are getting a Double XP Weekend, the last time we had one of these on the Playstation 3 I moved up a whole prestige level. So obviously it will not be just me playing COD4 all weekend to get some nice double point action, lets hope the servers can take all the gaming and not crash as they have before.
The double XP weekend starts 12:01 AM GMT on Friday 25th and you can keep getting double points right up to 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, April 27. If you’re a COD4 gamer on the PS3 then do not waste anytime, get onto the Playstation Store and go to “Game Add-ons” and you will see the COD4 map pack to download on the right, thank you Activision for the 358MB game pack. My user is Dansway if you ever fancy a game PS3 owners.
Update:
Just downloaded the bonus variety map pack and have noticed in Team Death Match (the new maps only) that you get 20 XP points per kill no matter where you shoot them, so it looks like extra points are coming early. Tried the older Team Death Match maps and they are still the same old XP points.
Why do I (Sony PS3 Owner) have to wait longer for call of duty 4 map pack?
April 3, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

Following on from Peters post about the release of the first Call of Duty 4 map pack for games consoles, my gaming time on Gran Turismo 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is only 10% of what Call of Duty 4 still gets. It is really annoying that Sony PS3 owners have to wait almost an extra month compared to Xbox 360 owners for the new map pack. Although its only four maps, it is really welcomed to add something new to COD4.
So what’s so different about the Sony PS3 COD4 map packs?
Why the extra wait (end of April/start of May)?
Call of Duty 4 map pack release: Xbox 360, 3rd or 4th, Sony PS3 early May

The Call of Duty map pack that we have been waiting so long for will be available hopefully on the 3rd or 4th. Well that is for Xbox 360 users anyway. The bad news is that users of the Sony PS3 will have to wait until early May for the map pack release.
It make me wonder why us Sony PlayStation users have to wait yet another month, maybe because the PS3 is much more complex to develop for. Oh well I suppose that the Microsoft Xbox 360 users will be laughing now, well all I can say is, enjoy you lucky gamers.

Do you think that Halo 3 is much easier after playing Call of Duty 4

When I first started to play Halo 3 it took some time to get used to, at times it was a little too hard for me to get used too. However since I have now been playing Call of Duty 4 it seems as if it has honed my skills, because I decided to blow the dust of my Halo 3 game and have another crack at it.
Well to my surprise the Halo 3 is now much easier, is it me or does the whole game feel like it is in slow motion. The reason for this is that in COD4 you don’t get time to think, it is action packed from the word go.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare: Japanese Nintendo DS version

I had to take a second look just now to make sure what I was seeing was true, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a Japanese version on the Nintendo DS. I’m just not sure if one of the best FPS games will make the transition over to a handheld console.
Why not see for yourself with this Japanese Jungle TV Spot, hey maybe this could be just what the Nintendo DS needs. OH man who am I kidding; it is just a waste of a good title.
Call of Duty 4: Broadcast Map Multiplayer Gameplay

When a new map comes out for Call of Duty 4 you like to have a look around and see what’s what, however with the new Broadcast Map playing in Multiplayer you have to concentrate in staying alive.
To give you an idea at just how good this new Call of Duty 4 map, check out this gameplay video, just to give you an idea of what the broadcast map is like. What is good about this map is how there is a lot of cover, and a number of sniper points.
Hands-on: Call of Duty 4 vs Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on Sony PS3 & Xbox 360
March 26, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Call of Duty 4 has been a massive success on the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360, it has taken up most of my gaming time and I have found it extremely addictive while playing online. The prestige ranks may get really repetitive but I just do not know why I keep playing to climb them…but I do.
The first Rainbow Six Vegas game was good fun in my books, but nothing compared to COD4 but now we have Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and although I got my hands on it a few days ago, COD4 has not wanted to let go of me. RBS2 has got some game time and in that short time I could see that its got a totally different style of play and one which could be much more realistic than COD4.
The Call of Duty 4 online gaming is what keeps myself and others playing, but it can get very stupid when you shoot someone 100 times and they do not die, while in RBS2 you will find bullets kill (especially in realistic mode), this does make the game much more appealing after weeks of COD4 gaming.
So with the question of Call of Duty 4 vs. Rainbow Six Vegas 2, I would say that many gamers will turn to RBS2 for something much more like real life but they may get bored fast as it’s more of a community playing COD4.
What’s your views on these two great video games and which would you give more gaming time?
Improvements to Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) and Warhawk since Sony PS3 update 2.17?

Early today we reported that there has been a firmware update for the Sony PS3, version 2.17. The PlayStation Blog have said that this firmware update will help to improve games online, however there is no proof of that yet.
The thing is we know that two of the most popular online games Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) and Warhawk have some issues. What gamers hope is that the new Firmware Update 2.17 will bring some much needed improvements to both of these games.
Sony PS3 Error 33 on Call of Duty 4 (COD4): are people still getting it?

Our last update on the Sony PS3 Error 33 problem on Call of Duty 4 was when I was with Tiscali and they still had the P2P problems, which stopped COD4 gamers connecting to each other, well at certain times. As I have moved to BT and have no Error 33 messages or P2P gaming problems anymore, is this the same for everyone.
So has the Error 33 problem been fixed or are Tiscali gamers still getting issues when playing COD4 online…Let us know with a comment.
