We have heard a few recalls already this year that have mainly involved the auto trade with various manufacturers reporting faults. Today we have more concerning news to bring you as a faulty harness leads to a Britax car seat recall for 2012.

The latest product recall involves the Briatx Child Safety Inc., who are a company that manufactures seats and restraints for children traveling in cars. According to a report on The Wall Street Journal the company is recalling certain Chaperone restraint systems due to safety harness adjusters, which can come away from the seat.

A document has been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and states that affected seats were built between September 1st 2010 and April 30 2011. This latest recall includes 14,220 units sold in the US, and another 3,600 that were sold in Canada.

The company has stated that it received 57 complaints in the US from customers, which involved seat harness adjusters that broke away from the seats. These adjusters are used to adjust the seat belts to the required tension to safely hold the occupant in place. In the case of a breakage the harness may not secure the child in an accident.

Britax has said that the problem comes from the wrong rivets used to fix the adjusters to the seats, but stated they know of no injuries because of the problem. The company will begin notifying owners and providing free repair kits, which will begin on February 6th by the mailing of the kits. In the meantime Britax will replace any seats with detached adjusters, and customers can contact Britax at 888-427-4829.

Do you have one of the Britax seats involved in the recall?

Following on from our report earlier which informed you of a voluntary recall of 23,000 Britax Car Seats sold around the world, we now have further information from Britax’s official website to give you.

If you head over to the US version of their website, you’ll see that Britax has now added a section for you to check your Britax product from the list on the right-hand side and clicking it will bring up a separate tab which will tell you if the product has been recalled or not.

For customers who require further information on the potential choking hazards that your Britax car seat may result in, heading to the FAQ section of their website will now provide you with a customer service number to call (1-888-427-4829 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-888-427-4829 end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-888-427-4829 end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-888-427-4829 end_of_the_skype_highlighting), strangely though – there isn’t actually any questions to view on this page.

Do you have a Britax Car seat which has been included in the recall list? If so, let us know your thoughts on this.
