Now Boxee has announced the new firmware update, along with a list of new features and improvements.

According to a recent crunchgear.com article by Matt Burns, the new firmware update has brought a whole host of changes, including a massive upgrade to the browser, which now features full support for browser history, bookmarks and HTML 5 for websites such as HBOGo.

The browser’s On Screen Display (OSD) has also been updated, including the web video playback screens, which now come with more content controls. Boxee has also revamped the local video screens, by moving all the buttons to the bottom of the screen and adding a brand new scrub bar.

Other improvements include a faster browser launch and faster page loading speeds and support for additional languages including Norwegian, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Danish and Russian. It also adds a new MLB application, which enables users to watch both live and recorded games.

The firmware update also contains a number of bug fixes, including a fix for the issue where a signature failed message would occasionally be displayed when trying to download and install applications and a fix for the problem where the ‘Audio Offset’ setting would not work.

This Apple TV like device had a few issues on release, so this update will be very welcome for those who chose this new device – but what are those changes?

Firstly, for those who have not seen what makes the Boxee Box tick, then you should read over the iFixit teardown that we covered a few weeks back. Richard Lawler from Engadget learned from Boxee themselves that a number of bugs were found in the software, so this was something that needed to be addressed.

There are two ways to get this update, the first is by doing nothing, as the Boxee Box checks automatically every 24 hours, or if you cannot wait, then you can go into the update under settings and check manually. The latest firmware build is version: 1.0.1.16319.

This is not the only firmware planned for 2010, Boxee plan to launch another before the year is out, as they still have a few more issues that needs to be addressed.

Some of the bug fixes include: 1080i playback black screens, seeking Blu-Ray .iso, stuttering Blu-ray content, dropping flash video audio, MPEG1 video, and so much more. A complete list of these fixes can be found by visiting the Boxee website. The next update is said to offer Netflix and VUDU apps.

The company worked alongside D-link, and the first thing you will notice is how odd its shape is, and this is the same story on the inside as well.

The best part about when a new device is launched is the teardown articles that iFixit send to me in my inbox. The first thing that the team noticed was its build quality, as it was a rival to the new Apple TV. iFixit also points out how the Boxee Box has a better quality than the new Logitech Revue Google TV device.

The downside to taking this apart is that the rubber base will never be the same again once you have removed it. From there the rest is easy, and having a separate power board is a good touch, as you do not need to replace the motherboard.

A Intel CE4110 processor keeps things running, and with a speed of 1.2GHz offers great performance. Also hiding away inside is 1GB of DDR3 SDRAM and 1GB of Flash storage. iFixit has given the Boxee Box a reparability score of 7 out of 10.
